Well Warhammer 40.000 started as miniature wargame, you know, where you paint models of soldiers and warmachines and engage in a battle. It's pretty successful, been running since 1987 if I recall correctly. And there's lots of spinoffs. So there's novels, there's PC games, there's role-playing games (like D&D), board games, there's one 3D rendered film (here's a combat scene if you're interested youtube.com/watch?v=D-co8eIfWXM )

Yeah, and now that I think about it, both it and D&D took off at a similar time. There's some crossover between the fanbases, although I think W40k is much more epic but also requires more suspense of disbelief, if that makes sense to you.

True that, but the problem with w40k is that Space marines' body proportions can be kinda nonsense to begin with, so if you try to make a replica of a power armour, it's gonna end up looking goofy as shit. But this guy in the vid pulls it off pretty okay.

Yeah, very probable. W40k is its own world, D&D is a game system so that makes sense. Though of course there's lots of settings for D&D too!
