Are you in South America or Asia? Either way they are common and cause less deaths than you would expect. That said as an electrician I would just take cold showers instead of trusting the element not to break (which will shock you).

Voltage indicators are notorious for "false positives." Depending on the range it can pick up voltage as low as 25V. You can get that from induction. Hell you can run a balloon on your hair rapidly and get a hit on them. Ad far as the heating element goes, as long as it is properly wired and you dont go punching it and shit, the chances of it electrocuting you are very slim. If you are truly worried about it, wire it to a circuit that's on a GFCI. If it gets wet at all it will trip and break the circuit. I am an electrician.
