most android apps are written in java, which wouldn't be the choice for audio processing but you can always add C code. that's how graphics is usually done in android; not simply using intellij but also integrating C code. you could write your sound management in C. i'm sure someone has bothered and there IS some android app that rivals apple apps, which would be written in C# usually--which also has audio latency and garbage collection/buffer issues--but maybe C++. it isn't the HARDWARE, it's the code.

I work at the Apple store in the 'Genius Bar' aka tech support part-time. Also freelance in creative industry.

At home I have a custom built Windows machine which I use for video editing, 3D modelling, Adobe Suite. I built it myself which is always going to be much cheaper than a prebuilt machine (Mac or otherwise). Periodic upgrades are also much cheaper as you can reuse many components.

Also have an iPhone 6S and a secondhand Macbook Air 2015 which I use when I'm out of the house (university, client meetings, etc).

Apple products are definitely a 'fashion statement' in the sense that they signal wealth. They make good hardware but it is overpriced.

If you have an Apple Store in your city the availability of same day repairs and tech support is a great boon to a lot of people. The equivalent process for windows machines and competing smartphone brands is not as convenient or accessible. There are also free classes in the store on how to use the devices which old people love.

The relative simplicity of iOS makes it easy for less technologically savvy people to use their devices. My grandparents have no issue using their iphones / ipads for video calls, emails, web browsing, solitaire, etc.

I have used both MacOS and Windows in a professional capacity and I would say that they are functionally almost identical at this point for most common tasks. Most people who hate one system or the other can't get past the surface level differences (different keyboard shortcuts, layouts, aesthetic differences). This might be different if you work in I.T. / sysadmin, I can't speak to the differences there. But for 95% of tasks I would say that Mac and Windows are interchangeable.

I use both. I use Win for gaming and use my Mac for audio and media apps. Windows isn't stable enough for Protools or any of the Adobe Suite tools. My mac runs Protools and Logic fine with relatively few crashes so it's an efficiency thing. Also if I buy an iPhone the phone will last me like 5 years with no issues so that's always nice. Saying either is better than the other is completely pointless because they're both better in certain situations. It's entirely situational.

No one wants to shell out the ass for a mac, but if you do you're guaranteed something that will be fine for music applications for the next five years and won't crash every ten minutes. I have a 12 input mixer and a lot of shit hooked up to my tower, but half of the time I I just fucking unplug shit and use my Macbook just because it runs so much better.

I've had this macbook for 8 years, and at this rate I'll at least get a few more out of it, after that I'll rinse and repeat assuming that I can get another Mac pro with good specs and will give me another 10 years. I don't like phones period. The only reason I use an iPhone is the fact that they don't really slow down as much over time and I prefer to keep the same phone for like 3 years. I've had Samsungs and Moto's but they just always turn to shit relatively quickly. iPhone's are pretty standard now when it comes to features so I really only buy older models when they're cheap because I know they'll last me at least a few years. Also I agree about the updates, it fucking sucks, but if we didn't get regular updates in the era we're in right now phones would age drastically very quickly and would go to shit even faster. Like I said I've been using both for 15 and even though you can technically get more machine for less with a PC, it's never going to run audio or video applications without stability issues. I've been doing this for 15 years try running protools on a PC and a Mac and report back to me with crash statistics. Try FL/Bandlab/Logic/Reaper etc. It's nothing to do with the hardware it's the OS. Win just can't handle audio and video applications as well as Mac OS does. I've been doing this shit for a long time and it's always been true. I use Windows for anything that isn't related to AV or live audio.
