I've been teaching my little neighbours how to cook recently, mostly just cakes and stuff but they are learning more useful things too so they can help out their mother and make dinner, and today they were some of the only people to remember my birthday. My own mother remembered, but my father and brother forgot and only one of my friends remembered. OP I know this feeling. I feel it sometimes too. But I think you may be mistaken. Let me explain. Children's minds are simple. They play, watch TV, and do simple things. Birthdays are big deals to them, so they remember other people's birthdays. Whereas adults have way more things and stress in their life, and birthdays tend to have lesser importance. To think of remembering a birthday as a sign your immediate family loves you or not may be a bit unfair to them. Neighbour's children only have good memories of you, whereas your family had seen your bad sides and your flaws.

Birthdays kind of stop mattering when you're an adult. I'm 30. I didn't celebrate my last 6 birthdays, and neither did my family. I'm not resentful of that, we're all busy people with shit to do, so when we meet up again for the first time in a couple months it's a case of "oh yeah, your birthday was recent! Happy birthday! Let's go get some lunch."

Did you do anything for your brother or father's birthday? I'm not talking sending them a gift. I'm talking actually doing something with them. I'm kinda guessing not, because if you did then I'm willing to bet they'd reciprocate, provided they had the time and money.
