yeah she was a good kitty. Sad to me because she wasnt very sick; not like my previous cat who was like 22 and everything was failing on her and she couldnt go up stairs anymore the day I put her down. She had a tumor so she couldn't poop. So I put her down before things got too bad because I already took her to the vet twice and she stopped pooping entirely after the second visit and was in pain and spending quite a bit of time to try. And she lived 15-17 years not sure. But she was different every year. She was very affectionate this last year. Always wanting to sit on my lap and always waking me up to cuddle up til I started giving her pain medicine where she mostly stuck to 1 spot. She was everything I respect about an independent strong cat.

and when I watched her get sedated and put down I just watched her and did my best to remember everything she was. She was too big to climb trees, but loved chasing squirrels. And she liked to be chased too. Shed do a death metal scream and run around the house til you caught up. She liked to say hello too often meowing just so she wouldn't get stepped on or because she knew I was looking for her.

yup and that was not even an hour before I took her to the vet to be put down. I'm glad I did it when I did cause another day and she wouldn't have been comfortable at all. She always had energy. Not crazy energy like some cats are crazy, she just did shit all the time and had explored every corner of the house and when left alone she always did stuff.

she was also on triple dose of pain killers. So thats why she looks so normal. It was hard to do and earlier than I wanted, but yeah. I'm really glad I got her to rest at the perfect time. Could have tried to give her laxatives and various medicines, but it was only to keep her going a bit longer anyway and even with laxatives she had nothing coming out. She died happy and lived long.

My younger brother found and took in a kitten 2 months ago. I hate cats due to a bad experience as a kid. I want to coexist with this cat because it makes my brother happy. I am concerned with its behavior and how it might react when it meets my dog.

I found that keeping cats separated creates tension. biting is good, its when they claw the fuck out of you that you need to be concerned. Biting is basically how you use your hand.

So the cat has free roam on the top floor of our house. The husky has free roam ground level and basement. Not sure if that'll ease the cat's tension.
I'm still not following how biting is good. I'm a dog person with years of experience and found that dogs biting is bad. I taught my husky since she was a pup not to bite. Here's where it gets weird, I bit my husky after she bit me pretty hard at about a years' age. She hasn't bitten a human ever since. I'm out of my element with cats so I'm not sure how to deal with this cat.

Biting is one of their senses mixed with some emotion. They explore with a bite. They have several bites. My cat bites me all the time when I do her belly, but it's like 20% power. But if you push it too far, they go to 100, and start jack-rabbiting with their back feet and bite hard as fuck. You can tell they're trying to harm you, it's the same way they'd kill a rabbit. But if they do a little cronch, and look at you with the mouth still open, and have no clue why you'd be mad, they're just fuckin with you.

Do you think I'd be able to use dog training techniques with the cat? I utilize the alpha leader mentality. I am aware that it has been disproved but it works for me with a variety of dog breeds I've had so I'm still using it.

Getting a little more specific, some cats are dicks. They have their own personalities. Training a cat is limited, unless you're some sideshow circus lady. If the cat is grown, theres not much you can do, it's already a "grown-up". So, you have to learn to live with their quirks. They'll mellow out once they know they're safe. I think you said you have a dog, so it's gonna be on defense mode basically forever. Let it alone, and it will come around and explore you, because you're the food guy. So just feed him whenever he wants and give him little pets when he's eating. Imprint that you're safe and reliable. He may never turn into a lap cat, and might spend a lot of his time in a place of his choosing where he's safe, like behind the couch, or under a dresser. If you imagine from his perspective, he's going to a place where he can't get snuck up on and attacked while sleeping. Don't try to pull him out, although you probably want to interact. Thats his spot, he'll come out when he knows it's safe. Usually at dawn or dusk, and some little exploratory raids when he gets curious or bored or hungry.

I interact with the cat for maybe 10 minutes a day. It's my brother's cat primarily so he feeds and cleans after it while I take care of the husky. I'm actually allergic to cats so I make myself interact with it as I generally don't like cats. I do this to build my immunity up to it so I won't feel like shit when it sheds.
I don't like cats but this is fucked. You shouldn't be allowed to own animals. An animal should only be medically altered if it's for the benefit of the animal. I don't spade/neuter my dogs unless it medically necessary.

The cat I grew up with for 14 years got hit by a car, but managed to crawl in to our hedge. My dad found him howling in there and carried him inside. He didn't seem to be in pain, but he was obviously dying. So we gathered around him in a bad and just cried like kids when he passed.
