I can walk into a hospital or a doctor's office at any time, and have help for nothing - I don't pay anything. I don't pay for subscriptions for meds.

Income tax pays for multitude of things in the UK, it goes towards funding police, emergency services etc also.

The majority of employees in the UK pay 20%, that figure can go down or up depending on other things.

The tax is collected, then the government in power decides in a budget how much government spending is issued to each sector.

So there isn't a set % of tax that goes to the NHS.

There is a massive difference though between Scotland and England and Wales. Scotland we have free prescriptions and doctor appointments, including free dental.

In England those things require payments, except in some cases if you are unemployed and getting benefits some can have the payments waived.

But as said in Scotland even if you are working or not, its free.

But we all share free Surgeries and Operations etc.
