The right wing thinks it should be the one who willingly agreed to receive this education at this price, and who will benefit directly from it. As for immigration, the right wing wants to protect the natives and thinks they deserve dibs on the infrastructure and benefits they built, whereas the left wing wants to share it with people from all over the world, and will take these resources away from the people who created them.

All respective Presidents were in the mid-40's at the relative same period of their 1st terms, and went on to win re-election - Obama & Clinton with economys no where as strong as the current one under Trump.
