I understand what you're saying, and I guess I would agree with the idea that there's, very generally speaking, a "white European" cluster of ethnicities with similarities in genetic make-up and some shared history.
However, the problem, again, is the case of individual white identities at the margins/limits of what is considered "white", who may be closer to non-white identities than whites. Scandinavians are closer to Russians than to Africans, for sure. But that's an extreme example.
To take a harder case, for example, I would argue that Greeks are closer to Turks than to Basque or Norwegians.

Except by that time Stalin was in charge, who had executed a large part of the Bolshevik old guard during the Purges, and the USSR was no longer internationalist, but rather nationalist in political orientation. Stalin's role was a lot like Napoleon's after the French Revolution: a return to a more conservative order. Stalin rebuilt the Russian Empire, rebuilt Russian national identity, took back Russian lands, and did not turn the USSR into a mere expendable base of operations for world revolution. In fact, he executed the Trotskyites who wanted to do just that.
The reason Hitler invaded the USSR was because Germany was pressured to do so by the British Empire, and had received guarantees that the Allies wouldn't attack him on the Western front (which they didn't until 1944 when Hitler was a lost cause).
The British handed Hitler everything on a silver platter: Austrian gold reserves, Czechoslovakian military potential.

Paradoxically enough, that doesn't even matter. In fact, it makes the case for American white nationalism stronger, not weaker. The fact that they are genetically a mixture of different white ethnicities means that there is no internal conflict about destroying individual identities in order to create a broader new one, like in Europe: it's already there, genetically speaking.
The fact that they have lost touch with their particular individual ethnic roots and cultures precisely gives them the impetus and freedom to fashion a new identity without being impeded by particular historical considerations.
And the fact that pretty much everyone in the US already has at least some non-white blood in them makes that fact less of a consideration as well, since the category of people with some non-white blood in them is universal, it does not exist as a category muddling the boundary between those who are pure white and pure non-white.
All of this means that definition of "white" in the US essentially comes down to a matter of self-identification, or rather perhaps non-identification with any non-white identity. You can be like 50% Latino, but as long as you identify as white and look reasonably white, and don't identify as any specifically Latino ethnicity, there are few boundaries preventing you from integrating into a "white national identity".

Are Greeks really that close to the Turks? More so than they are Norwegians? I’d agree to some extent, in that Turks conquered former Greek lands, and they have similar geography (Greece and Western Anatolia) but other than that they’re not very similar. South Italians and Sicilians are very different from Northern Italians. My impression is that Southern Spanish, Southern Italian, and Greeks are closer to Turks or Berbers than they are to the "whitest" whites like Scandinavians or Irish.
But that's also because Anatolia has culturally been extremely close to Greece: the Straits were more of a crossroads than a barrier, historically speaking. Back in antiquity you had the Lydian and Phrygian kingdoms, which were ethnically pretty much midway between Greek/Anatolian. Some people even say the Hittite Kingdom in Anatolia was Indo-European. And of course there were Greek colonies in the West of Anatolia as well.
The Turkic peoples who invaded Anatolia interbred with a lot of these whiter Anatolian peoples.
Plus during the Ottoman Empire, the Ottomans captured a lot of whiter people from the Balkans and brought them to Anatolia.
All in all, there are a lot of "Turks" today in Anatolia who look pretty white and are closer to White Europeans than they are to other Turkic ethnicities.
So the fact that some Greeks are closer to Turks than to other white ethnicities, is just as much due to the fact that some Turks are closer to Greeks than to other non-white ethnicities.
The question of ethnic boundaries goes both ways.

Also with regards to Berbers, you have to remember that the Roman Empire was a Mediterranean Empire, not a European one, so its southern border was the Sahara desert, not the African coastline, which meant that there was a lot of communication between the people in North Africa and Europe, leaving them whiter than they would otherwise be.
