My ex had a pitbull. She was so attached to it that she would cuddle the dog during the night and not her committed partner. Even people online/in public would make jokes saying that it seems like she fucks her dog because of how she acted. Owned 2 pitbulls for over 13 years. They're nothing but lovable, affectionate babies. Actually, going by attacks alone, pit bulls *only* make up 22.5% of reported dog bites (and there's certainly plenty of dog bites from smaller breeds that are never reported). They're really not that much more aggressive than some other breeds. The biggest problem is when they do attack, it's awful. A berserk chihuahua might only cause a bloody finger, but a pit bull kills.

No. They're not owned equally. IE, if you have a breed where there's only 100 in the USA, and 1 bites, that's a 1% risk. If you have another breed with 1,000,000, and 100 bite, that's a .001% risk. Pit bulls don't have the highest bite risk, but they do look bad because there's such a huge number of them, especially when taking into account mixed breeds.

In January, a 5 year old was attacked by several dogs at his grandmother’s house in Washington County and was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

The two dogs were surrendered by the owners to Brenham Animal Shelter due to the aggressive nature of the two animals. they do happen a lot actually. Labradors attack people all the time, simply because they are so common. The difference is that with some obedience training a Labrador can become a well trained dog. A pitbull is still a danger even after being trained because they spook easy and become violent at the slightest provocation.
