Japanese steel is made from a ferrous sand that is smelted in earthen furnaces. The process is fascinating and labor intensive. To say they Japanese swords don’t compare to anything that Europeans had is like trying to compare a Lamborghini to a Maybach. They’re both nice cars but they have different purposes.
