The eagles couldn't penetrate Mordor until the last moment when the army from minas tirith went to the front gate to distract Sauron's gaze.

Discuss.

>air units getting cucked by ground units that don't use ranged weaponry
Sounds like a pretty shit game design to be honest, fam.

There are plenty of ranged units in Mordor.

>The eagles couldn't penetrate Mordor until the last moment when the army from minas tirith went to the front gate to distract Sauron's gaze.

What is there to discuss you just said it.

Do you have a better explanation as to why they didn't just fly frodo to the mountain and finish the book series in a couple pages.

In the mines Gandalf tells them to fly but they don't understand.

Plus there wasn't a distraction until the very end. Had they taken the eagles they would have been easy pickings for the Nazgul before they got close.

Not really because there isnt one...
You COULD argue that the eagles simply didnt care enough to do it and that Gandalf called in some crazy-ass Maiar deus ex machina bullshit to get them to pick Frodo and Sam up in the end.

Remember in the Hobbit when the eagles save the gang and Gandalf explains that this was some next level shit because the eagles dont care AT ALL for the trivial little garbage that happens on ground level.

Nazgul on fell beasts would absolutely destroy the eagles? The eagles would be corrupted by the ring? The eagles were under the control eru and it wasnt his plan to have them fly it in? Pick one of those three, they're all true.

Sauron can shoot energy from his eye. This isn't discussed in the book series more than once. But in side stories it is discussed more plainly when an eagle does fly over Mordor and Sauron shoots it out of the sky. This argument has taken place long before the movies came out. People have been asking why didn't the eagles just fly Frodo over since the books released. There are newspaper articles about the debate. So Tolkein wrote in a side story about how Sauron can shoot energy from his eye, not at infinite range of course, but within the bounds of his kingdom. So that is the official reason

The literal fire eye on top of the tower wasnt even in the book user. Redo your bait, I think you're onto some good shit here but ot needs refinement.

Yeah...I know...but it should have been in the book.

Then why to the eagles all of a sudden GAF at the last possible moment?

What is a Fell Beast?

Didn't they have to kill all the death eaters first with the special magic staff from Hogwartzndor or some shit?

Because the battle was just about won and Gandalf wanted to try and save Frodo and Sam.

this has been discussed on quora to death, go there and find your answer there

Fair. But the eagles could have gotten them close. Why not fly them to gondor?

The Eagles couldn't penetrate a fucking end zone!

>Then why to the eagles all of a sudden GAF at the last possible moment?

>Gandalf called in some crazy-ass Maiar deus ex machina bullshit to get them to pick Frodo and Sam up in the end.

Did you read my post?
Anyway its unknowable why the eagles suddenly started caring, thats the thing about them you CANT know their intentions.
And being so closely related to Eru its likely they know the difference they can make in earthly affairs and simply choose not to act because that would rock the balance.
Just look at Eru sending Gandalf back that was the highest form of meddling possible like "Morgoth-deciding-to-take-over-the-world" levels of high.
The divine being of middle earth arent supposed to meddle becaus that throws shit of balance.

the eagles are of a higher race than the common folk of middle earth and don't give a shit about sauron and the problems of his enemies. the only reason they helped gandalf and later frodo in the first place is because gandalf had helped their leader and they owed him a favor

That makes Frodo's adventure seem pretty cheap.

all very obvious to people who did more than watch the movies, a minority of course

it may be the big story in lord of the rings but considering all of tolkiens world and lore frodo is a fckn hobbit and his journey is just a small story

You guys should join shireposting on fb it's really epic

Sounds gay af

The eagles didnt fly Frodo into Mordor to destroy the ring because if they did the book would have only been about 2 chapters long you autistic retard. Tolkien has commented on this himself. Theres no hidden meaning no matter how hard you try to theorize it all.

You guys are still arguing about this while in all your brand new Netflix series they don't even put up the slightest effort in order to justify the demented scripts they feed you with.
All "best" most popular series like Supernatural, Misfits, Skins, True Detective, the very same Breaking Bad, until the last Game of Diarrhea had major flaws in the plot and nobody gave a shit because you guzzle up all the jew syrup without ever asking... Then you remember you have a masterpiece you still haven't criticized, and

I love WKUK

Eagles aren't closely related to eru, they're the servants of manwe
Faggot

people worship lord of the rings as the epitome of storytelling, but it is full of plotholes and deus ex machina

Thanos already had four of the stones and there was no way for the eagles too fly in with out thanos altering sauron

go back to redd!t

this all has to do with the complicated backstory

read the Silmarillion, then you'll get it

in the meantime, make me a fucking pizza

The ring was destroyed when the eagles saved them I thought? So everything was fucked.

What about a catapult?

they're a pretty good band tho

The Nazgul could not fly whent he Fellowship was first formed -- they had been unhorsed and were creeping back to Mordor to get respawned.

Also, why fuck around sending hobbits crawling through the wilds and wastes? Why not send a distraction, then send eagles?

Nazguls?

Great carrion birds ridden by Nazgul. In the movies and most fantasy art they are rendered as dragons, because giant buzzards look sort of silly.
