Health care is never "free" you just pay via tax. In Australia if you make over $90k you have to pay a special levy or get private insurance, so I pay for other people's health care but have to use private for myself, you get nothing extra from the private either.

No, it's not. The US is the world leader in medical care, there's a reason why rich people from around the world fly to the US for treatment. Most of the studies that show better outcomes ignore things like the vastly lower wait times in the US, that the US spends far more on basic research than everyone else, statistics that measure different things in different countries, and conditions that have nothing to do with healthcare. For an example of the third case, consider mortality rates and life expectancy. The US counts deaths from the moment they're born, and takes extraordinary measures to try to save babies before they're born. Other countries don't count infants that die within a few weeks of birth, or even simply abort problematic pregnancies (the latter is mostly shitholes countries like Cuba, but the former applies to much of Europe). A bunch of zeros massively distorts stats for both infant mortality rates, and life expectancy. For the fourth case, one of the classic examples is obesity. This is a social issues, not something you can fix with medical care. Yet it causes all kinds of negative effects, when looking at stats on medical outcomes, yet it has nothing to do with the medical care provided to those people with higher risk factors.
