It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

My Harry Potter books from when I was a child, the Rosario Vampire series I just finished from high school, and I own a decent condition cookbook authored by my favorite actor Vincent Price. These are my favorite books, although with what little I usually have to spend on books, I try to complete my manga collections and save old books from the burn pile.

Do you read anything digitally, or always physical?
I've only read digital book/manga recently, haven't read a hardcover in a long time. If books were >$5 consistently, then I'd consider it, but the appeal of free reading on a color screen, with thousands of titles in one place, it's hard to beat.

Can anyone tell me who the armored skeleton dude was that saves Guts at the end?
Does Guts kill the Bird-dude that fucked his girl? What happens with the other final-demon-boss dudes, especially the Giant-brains-dude? He seemed the most interesting/mysterious of the bunch.
Apologies for the confusing nicknames used, I only remember Guts and that the movie was cool as fuck.

Skullknight, he was (most likely) King Gaiseric who united Midland, and found his downfall after going against the God Hand. He appears often to help Guts and confuse him by saying big words.

Those are the God Hand. They show up for the Eclipse then just fuck off afterwards to go do things in another realm. Slan (the big titty woman) shows up later on to sexually harass Guts.

Well, we know the God Hand become God Hand through the Eclipse, it's like their initiation ceremony.
Void (guy with the brain and pulled back face) has some history with Skull Knight.
Other than that, they show up like one or two other times for a brief appearance.
