This comic always rubbed me the wrong way.
If you gave someone some money and told them they were free to do whatever they wanted with no legal restrictions, they would probably go on a vacation or write a novel, or spend more time with friends or family or volunteer for a cause they believed in. They wouldn’t start eating their aborted fetuses and crucifying their local priest.
I don’t want to accuse the author of bad faith, but it really is almost perfectly calculated propaganda to buttress ideological justification for an invasive surveillance and punishment state. After all, the logic goes, if Big Brother isn’t there to watch and discipline you, who will prevent you from indulging in your deepest desires to blackmail your girlfriend into participating in a gangbang (even though no normal person has this desire).

Your use of 10th grade vocabulary isn't fooling anyone into thinking you're smart so you can stop doing that thing. Also, it's not what people would do if they could do anything. It's what they would do if they were infected with a compulsion to do the most disgusting things they can think to do. Imagine a neurological disorder that starts out simply making you feel cynical. Then you go from feeling cynical about everything to acccepting that everything is shitty. Then eventually acccepting isn't enough and you start to feel the need to participate in it. You start curing yourself just to see how it feels. Then when that's not enough you start cutting other things just to see how they unfurl. Then eventually you start taking other people and doing whatever you can to them just to see their terrible reactions. Then that fuels a desire to do worse and worse things to people to see the range of emotions you can inflict and it all makes you feel so alive because you are the one inflicting this kind of change on your environment. And it continues building and building with more people joining in until you have mobs of people roaming the streets looking for more people to torture just to get their fix of surrealism. It's never enough but they can never stop either because now they're addicted to the feeling. Like gangs of newly indoctrinated masochists just looking for a high. Also he can cut tanks in half with his sword of mushi wushi and also he's my dad and I'm a demon too.
