that's an argument for everyone to own a gun. that way you can protect yourself when someone decides they want to take your life without just cause. if everyone carried a gun people would much nicer to each other in public because you know if you try to escalate a simple misunderstanding or if you're just a fucking bully you'll have to deal with someone else that has leveled the playing field by carrying for self protection. I'd like the world to be like this and then we could get rid of most police. maybe just have small forces like sheriffs of old.

thing i don't understand about this logic is it doesn't really level the playing field that much in a one-on-one scenario.

yeah there are aggressive people always so there will always be an asshole that goes around trying to prove he's tougher than everyone else and will want to prove it. I am thinking of the sort of low level rage you see all the time in society that escalates to one side seriously injuring the other because they see they can take physical advantage in a situation. or petty crimes that are perpetrated because the guy expects the victim will not in a situation to defend himself. if you think that everyone in the world has a gun and is willing to use it if you get threatening with them do you think you would act differently in some situations where maybe you got angry and wanted to do or say something that could lead to a confrontation? that's the sort of thing I am thinking of. like the old west in the us. people wouldn't just start shit unless it was very fucking serious because they knew it could lead to a life or death situation real fast. people were more respectful back then. now people are very disrespectful and this is how small misunderstands can sometimes escalate to asymmetric violent outcomes

I am very poor and I can only afford to buy one gun once a year. I own 3 guns. I started collecting guns ever since Trump became president because he is honestly terrifying. No I collect guns because my fellow Democrats want to ban them. Always wanted to own a gun but never had the time/money to maintain it and take it out to shoot. I was thinking of a Glock 17 to defend my house with and shoot for fun, as you don't have to maintain it as much, but if you have suggestions I would be happy to know.

This is the way to go for self defense.No need to kill someone for trying to rob you, just give em the spritz and go about your day. Research has shown that regular people can't use guns to adequately protect themselves anyways. You've got to be training at least once or twice a week to be prepared to use a firearm.
