China has an awful lot of both of these, coupled with very high population density, making the death toll higher, hence the battle to contain the issue before all older population is put at risk.
The trouble is, the bodies of the dead are still considered highly contagious and the burial practices often involve a lot of physical contact and large groups of people which is causing the spread to accelerate at a much higher rate.
