i wish that this episode goes against the normal idea abouyt how star deal with rules.

i want to see janna convince star to do really bad stuff bcause ''''NO RULES''' , them things get REALLY BAD, and star must deal with the fact that sometimes you must respect rules, they exist for a reason.

I think the problem with that is we've already seen an episode pretty heavily dedicated to that in the form of Star vs. Echo Creek, the main message being that being reckless, particularly with magic has considerable negative results.

I think they'd get more effective use out of Janna if they added something new to the show's main character dynamics with Janna's character. Perhaps a more human element to Star's mischief, or a lesson for Star on human behavior, particularly that of girls. Though Janna doesn't seem like your typical girl so there's that to consider as well.

Either way, I'd like Janna to be her own character and have that influence how she interacts with Star, as opposed to just being a functional supporting character like some of the other supporting cast are at present. For a show that's biggest selling point is the presentation of a genuine friendship between the two main characters, more fleshed out secondary characters who can add to that dynamic is key.

Why has Princess Marco gotten so popular? It's almost like every third request is for Princess Marco.

Good artists started delivering, so people unsurprisingly asked for more.

Because Marco's a legit qt, and people have a fetish for the line that traps dance across. I'm sort of getting mad that, at a point, they're just dropping all pretenses of it being a trap and are just straight up genderbending. Star comes from a life of being (arguably rightfully) considered reckless and irresponsible by everyone. As far as we know Pony Head was her only close, same aged friend, and she's worse than Star. Then comes Marco, a sensible young boy who, while being her best friend and peer, also believes in her, doesn't blame her too much for her mistakes and admits when he has some fault to share. This makes the matter of "trust" an extremely important part of their friendship, and every time it gets "betrayed", in more or less serious ways (Blood Moon Ball, Star on Wheels) Star suffers.
In Banagic Marco outright tells her that he didn't believe she could acquire the wand all alone, Star feels hurt, reacts in a childish (and, I admit, awkwardly executed) but explainable way.

Tell me, Cred Forums, how is/was season 2? I watched all of season 1 and loved it but for some reason I never got around to watching season 2 despite keeping up with 1 as it aired. I really wanna scrounge together the time and go through it, but is it worth it?

Also, since Janna is in the name of this thread, hows she turned out? Did she get much screentime? She was probably my favourite character and my top pick for Marco's love interest

It's different. Less magic and dimensions (we got only one episode in another dimension in 7 episodes). Personally I like it more, it's closer to Daron's original idea for the show (Star having magicy adventures on Earth, with less focus on highschool), and, while slowly, the overarching plot is getting there, and I'm sure that shit is going to hit the fan sometime after mid season. The characters are as strong as ever (more focus on Marco and Star, but next weeks, according to the plots, we're going to see lots of characters from high school) and I find the jokes and gags definitely funnier.

It's a different season and I have high hopes for it.

Opinions are mixed on season 2. I think it's great, but quite a lot of people are unimpressed, mainly because the tone has changed somewhat by the removal (for now) of the forces of evil and Star not using her wand very often because of it being cleaved

That's actually surprising that no one has done this.

If you liked the first season you'll like what we've seen so far of season 2, despite some of the criticisms.

There's been a few episodes that just miss the mark, that didn't utilize the stronger parts of the first season and really just seemed 'off'. Personally, I think they were ideas put on the back burner from season 1 and were included by the creative team given they had already likely discussed them and season 2 was billed as being longer. In addition, most of the season 2 episodes have taken a form more reminscient of Daron's original take on the Star vs. concept, meeting weird and interesting people in the world and examining the world through weird-tinted lenses. However, given the 11 minute format and pre-established tone and direction of the show it seems out of place, episodes or chunks of episodes revoling around weird, one-off characters who need a lot of setup or sprout a lot of exposition. One of the strongest parts of one of the recent episodes is that you are just dropped into the event focus of the episode, which is when Star vs. is at its best.

Despite that, there's been some good, solid and excellent episodes too and those definitely deserve a watch. The two most recent episodes being an example of this as they made use of those stronger aspects of season 1 and continue to add to more secondary aspects, such as Marco and Star's interactions with other characters, their development as characters etc.

All in all, watch it, the best is yet to come and the next couple weeks of episodes are likely to be great.

See, I don't mind that being the focus of the show, but it definitely has to be tailored well if it's to fit better than the previous focus, given the 11 minute format episodes. I think it's certainly possible to do that, but having two different focuses on episodes can cause dissent as people favour certain types of episodes over others, even if they work together to help explore the world in question.

SU is a good example of this, given there's 'townie episodes' which move away from the main focus of the show, in the form of the gems and exploring their world and interactions with the main character, and looks to build up the world by giving more attention to the secondary and tertiary cast. It's an incredibly difficult thing to do, partcularly when you have a mix of more action, drama or lore based episodes with that main cast which is primarily the draw of the show. But I think it can be done, especially if the creator truly believes in pursuing it as Daron seems to want to.

Ideally, if she's to pull that sort of focus shift off, she needs to cut down on the fluff and exposition in those episodes and either jump right in to the focus of the episode and let it unfold naturally or she needs to use pre-established setup from prio episodes to, again, speed up the setup of the episode. Developing secondary characters, plots and main cast development is a good way to go about that, which is something I believe the show has done with Marco and Star. Now it just needs to develop some secondary characters and build up some viable plots to have that main character focused wacky adventures.

I agree, and that's why, at least in my opinion, episodes using already established characters like Star on Wheels and Camping Trip worked way better than episodes using new one time characters, like Fetch and Star Vs Echo Creek. Starstruck is gray ground, since Mina is likely going to appear again, maybe even as a character pivotal to the main plot.

It was one of the big sentiments generated in the season 1 threads near the end of the season/during the hiatus. Marco and Star just need new people to bounce off of, given how established their interactions are. This is not to say them interaction is bad or boring at all, quite the opposite, but any series that focuses on character interaction, be it with other characters or the world itself, need a solid supporting cast to keep the dynamic fresh and moving.

Mina was fine too, knowing more about the people of Mewnie is always a positive in my books, given how strange the place seems to be. Doubly so for the monster side of Mewnie in the Buff Frog episode.
