>you just lost your family
>a weirdo in a bat costume kidnaps you into a dark, damp cave
>makes you eat rats
>puts you on a strict army-level training regiment
I'm surprised Batman didn't go trough more Robins than he did.

>we will never get more ASBAR ever
fucking jim lee, not being able to draw more than a page a month

How is it ridiculous?

There's a special place in my heart for old stupid covers.

...

...

Ok, that's seriously retarded even for Silver Age standard
What's the actual plot? He has a trigger in his ears that would make the Twin Towers explode if he put coins inside them?

...

2meta4me

I laughed out loud when I saw this in my Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams trade.

I miss superdickery.

I wish they could do superdickery variant covers.

Fuckin early 2000 3D art

lol wtf.

...

Superdickery covers are always the best.

...

This actually sounds like a fun read.

Agreed. Looking this up right now.

Did Dick cum in his mask again?

Holy shit they really referenced "I Am Curious" on the cover of a Superman comic? I can't believe it

...

Why are the interesting-looking ones hardly ever on comixology?

Now all it needs is for The Fall to record a fictional soundtrack to it.

I want to see Superman denying people water in at least one movie.

Turns into a nigger to see how their lives arw

...

lol, looks like a modern porn comic cover.

>Superdickery variant covers, each with a classic art style and an absurd situation related to the comic
I would buy it

...

Never forget.

Hasn't Lesllie Jones been through enough Cred Forums ?

wtf i love silver age now

...

Isn't that the comic where Dr.Hurt makes his first appearance?

...

That was Batman #156 - Robin Dies at Dawn

...

You know, I've always wondered this. So let's find out.

Also, this came out in 1977, so not even Silver Age.

Remember, at this time Superman comics were for kids, even moreso than ever before.

It was a major criticism of DC and was part of the reason they were in dire straits financially. Crisis on Infinite Earths and the subsequent Superman relaunch were a big attempt to "rebrand" the Superman line to fit with the rest of their output.

WHERE ARE THE DRUGS, PRANKSTER?!

Wouldn't the fact that he still has 2 million dollars of stolen jewels somewhere be enough?

JUSTICE FOR PRANKSTER

JUSTICE OR RIOT

Oh so that's the origin of the stop it panels.

Superman is so full of shit. That's entrapment.

>that last panel
Fucking cheeky cunt.

You'd think. What's he doing out of prison, anyway?

Damn revolving door prison systems.

Why doesn't Superman just kill the Prankster?

We need to story time more silver age comics every now and then.

>there to arrest a guy for a misdemeanor
>punches a huge fucking hole in a wall and just flies off
Superman you're a fucking asshole

I think I might have a badly beaten up inherited copy of this one.

That last panel is hilarious.

Fucking GLORY.

So essentially the criticism was during the time where everything had to be grimdark for no reason? It's funny because I would kill to have this Superman back.

Full EDGE

Man that is so 90s it hurts.

So 90's it hurts.

man just look at al those muscles that don't exist

They may as well give Frank a backwards hat and a skate board.

It was pretty much the same misconceptions we have today, where people say "Marvel characters are realistic and relatable, DC characters are boring and overpowered".

This was a time where you had stuff at Marvel like the Night Gwen Stacy Died, Bill Mantlo's Iron Man and Hulk runs, Howard the Duck, etc. that were kind of redefining what cape comics could be while still appealing to kids. And even though a lot of the same kind of stuff was going on at DC, they just had this stigma because of the Superman line with characters like Krypto and Superboy, the 60's Batman show, Teen Titans, and of course DC's penchant for kooky bait covers like the ones this thread was about.

Also you know how people always say nowadays that DC reboots all the time despite that only happening literally twice? Well before Crisis the meme was that DC had like a thousand Earths you had to keep track of, which obviously was CoIE was meant to address.

once again batman brave and the bold is the greatest

So wait, what happens in this one?

(not them)
I remember reading somewhere that this was one of the constant fake-out stories that DC would do in that era where at the end of the story it's revealed to have been all one big practical joke.
Like whenever Superman forces Jimmy Olsen to marry a gorilla.

Batman's gotta believe.

Yeah, it's a bunch of bullshit.

Supposedly at the time (especially in the early to mid 60's) editors would come up with crazy covers and it was up to the writers to fill in the actual story, which is what lead to stuff that was so crazy the writers would just say "fuck it" and make it an imaginary story/alternate Earth. And yes, some maniacs, one of whom grew up to be Mark Waid, have cataloged literally every single one of these alternate Earths.

I gotta hand it to folks like Jerry Siegel and Otto Binder for being real troopers and working backwards to make these stories, and still manage to fill them with insanely creative stuff.

>And yes, some maniacs, one of whom grew up to be Mark Waid, have cataloged literally every single one of these alternate Earths.
My god, I can't even fathom the kind of deep lore Ewing could pull out of the silver age if he was with DC.

the man of steel was surprisingly thin skinned

Go ahead. Make his day.

I've actually read this
Dick breaks an arm when he fought some crooks in his civvies so Batman starts dressing up like a circus tent so people dosn't notice Robin has an arm cast

Linkara still has to review these

This is and always shall be the best
