My portable CDisplayEx won't show thumbnail previews of comics covers in Windows 7. Why, Cred Forums?
Noah Harris

>CDisplayEx Only the 64 bit version has thumbnail previews. I have a 32 bit version on windows 7 that doesn't show them but my laptop has the 64 bit version and they do show them.
Use this version on a Windows 64 bits computer only. You need this version if you want to see comics book thumbnails in the shell explorer on Windows 64 bits.
Windows 32 bits
This version run on any computer, but you will not be able to see thumbnails of comics if you install this version on a 64 bits computer.

No, DC did Superman - Rebirth and Batman - Rebirth specials, but just started Action and Tec with the previous v1 numbering for both (counting the fifty-two issues from the Nu52 v2 as if they had been using the old numbering).

Geeze, the Zootopia comic is a letdown. The comic adaptation of The Lion King was handled better. Aren't we supposed to be getting a sequel or prequel series later?

Does utorrent have a problem with adding public trackers when creating new torrents? I've tried a couple and every time I try to create it a message pops up that the tracker is invalid.
I'm going to assume you got/can get JLD and the Bat stuff from those MF uploads from that other user:
Here is the Birds of Prey you wanted, plus I noticed MF user didn't give you all the SG you wanted, so here's pretty much the entire run. Also Batman and Robin, since it looks like he didn't give you everything in your ask (it's uploading and this is a PB that can be edited, so check it after 5 pm EST Sunday).
BTW - in all that advice you got, did anyone suggest trying something to repair your disk or is totally unable to mount? I had something similar happened and I was able to recover everything but about 10-20 % of an external with video files.
Andrew Campbell
For these rips in this post, download all parts of the rip you want in the same folder/directory, open the first part, and extract all.
Is there anyone who knows how to extract comics automatically in comic1xology? I want to extract over the garden wall comics by myself. Thanks for help. Have a nice day.
If you do a Desu search for "Chrome extension" "CMX" within this board (see OP) you should be able to find multiple posts referring to a (obviously) extension for the Chrome browser that lets you back-up the CMX copies. Supposedly most people then comment that the quality is very low.
I'm guessing the unnamed rips - like the MLP and the occasional other floppies and perhaps some of the ones listed as C4F or that ones that aren't clearly camera phone 'webrips,' etc. that show up here and elsewhere are this.
I've never used, can't recommend it. Most people who have used it (or claimed to have used it) say the quality is low SD and it's not possible to easily upscale it to the quality most rippers give us today.
Since it's not looking like Empire is going to continue ripping OTGW, I suspect some other folks would appreciate it if you backed them up this way for yourself and posted a mirror here (and I bet the other bloggers/cuck anons would grab it and mirror it as well, just like they occasionally do with porn spam mirrors that's not as clearly marked as BeigeManta's is). And one or more of the Mad Anons will complain about the quality.

using the windows version I feel like mouse-scrolling is too fast (it skips very far and even speeds that up when you hit around halfway through a page in "show full size" mode) while using the arrow keys is slow as fuck and I haven't found an option to change speed. would be better than CDisplay indeed if it wasn't for these things, which are really annoying me.
Thanks for the pastebin link. Yeah, the MF links worked out well.
Basically when I switch the HD on it spins up, but there's a fair bit of steady clicking, which I assume is the head trying and failing to read.
When I connect it, it generally doesn't show up in Windows Explorer or Disk Manager, nor in a directory listing in a command window. Once or twice I got a dialog box saying I needed to format the drive to use it. It shows up in my HD monitoring software, but only as a temperature reading in the taskbar. Once I switch to the monitor program, it stops working and I have to end task.
I have read a number of suggestions: freezing, taking the cover off to free the head, replacing the head, replacing the board, etc. I suppose I could try the freezing, but I haven't done so yet.
I also thought about bringing it to a local computer shop, which advertises affordable disc retrieval, but I am not sure how the guy will react to finding a shitload of pirated comics. It's a pretty good shop, and I kind of want to be able to keep dealing with it in the future.
Landon Wood
>Digital those seriously look like they are scans. the hybrid ones by OkC.O.M.P.U.T.O.-Novus-HD are much better.
that didn't change anything, staying with CDisplay for now, shame.
Henry Thomas
had the same problem with mine, had to buy a new one. also I bought a bigger one, actually make that two and made it raid. worth it. kind of annoying to set up though if your main HD isn't raid already. and I wouldn't even be able to help you with that as my brother did it for me
>I also thought about bringing it to a local computer shop, which advertises affordable disc retrieval, but I am not sure how the guy will react to finding a shitload of pirated comics. It's a pretty good shop, and I kind of want to be able to keep dealing with it in the future.
how likely is it that he even knows what they are? just tell him you're an avid comics reader and allr your digital shit is on it. be happy it's not full of porn in addition. it's doubtful he even knows how to open those comics.
Jonathan Stewart
Problem is all the filenames have the rip group names on them. He could probably figure it out.
I've talked to computer professionals who don't care a whit about piracy, and also a few who react to it like it's a war crime. I am always careful to keep it a secret until I know how someone feels.
I know very little about raid, but I don't think it would work for me because I have a number of external drives, which are generally only on when transferring files for storage or retrieval.
Evan Evans
>how likely is it that he even knows what they are? That's ... silly. You could just google .cbr file extension ffs: fileinfo.com/extension/cbr
>it's doubtful he even knows how to open those comics. Seriously? Most document viewers just open the things (Okular and Evince, the default programs on KDE and Gnome respectively, just work for example).
We're talking about someone who's technical enough to run a shop where they can retrieve data of off a broken drive, not your Grandma.
The better question would be: would anyone actually give a shit?
I mean: 99% of the time he's surely going to be seeing massive amounts of mp3's, massive amounts of video (both porn and tv/movies), massive amounts of documents (pdf, epub, mobi) ... and in most cases ALL OF THOSE will be of dubious legality.
Unless you're talking about snuff or kiddiepr0n even admitting that he took a peak would be a great way to get negative publicity and kill future business.
Jonathan Phillips
>That's ... silly. >You could just google .cbr file extension ffs:
yeah that's great and all but why the hell would he care? why?
>Seriously? Most document viewers just open the things (Okular and Evince, the default programs on KDE and Gnome respectively, just work for example).
why would he have those on whateverfuck machine he's using to restore a HD? I have never even heard of any of these
>The better question would be: would anyone actually give a shit? yes, that's my point.
Isaiah Campbell
>I know very little about raid "Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks" ... it's just a way to set things up so you could use multiple small drives as one large drive (back before you could get a 3T drive at Best Buy); or mirror multiple drives so you could pull data from whichever was faster (depending on where the heads were on any given drive) back before SDDs were viable and affordable; or just make things failsafe by having duplicate drives that mirror things so if one dies you've got an exact copy already.
Basically the same thing as RAID except that it's in it's own box (rather than in your PC case).
Elijah Lopez
is there a rip of The Dark Horse Comics/DC: Superman?
Gavin Lee
Dead HD guy here
I don't know whether or not he would care. This is why I am hesitant to ask.
As I wrote earlier, I have met people who are strongly opposed to anyone not paying for their digital goodies. There was a game reviewer who lived across from me for a while, and he was of the opinion that anyone who pirated anything should be prosecuted, and then upon release be prohibited from using a computer ever again.
It is a fair point that he probably sees tons of this stuff, so perhaps it might not matter. I guess I could just ask him.
Ryder Adams
NAS seems like something that might be nice in the future, but right now might be a bit much considering my drives are mostly for storage, and I don't need to access files on a daily (or even weekly) basis.
William Myers
the better question is, was there anything else than comics on it that is A: important enough for you to try and recover it (official documents, stuff you do for work or need for study or something etc) B: could bring real trouble to you besides a few pirated comics, (actual illegal porn or porn that's just illegal where you live, or legal porn but that's stuff you'd be ashamed of if anyone ever found out like let's say "futa" or "furry" etc then I'd think about not getting it recovered)
John Watson
No. Just comics.
I try my best to use different drives for different stuff: movies, TV, comics. This helps immensely to avoid duplicates, and also for finding what the heck I'm looking for.
For the comics, I have two drives: one for DC/Marvel, and one for everything else. This means I have almost nothing left from non-big 2, and only lost about 3 years of New 52/Marvel NOW stuff that got moved there a while back and never migrated to the DC/Marvel HD.
Nothing important: that stuff is on an internal drive, and also backed up.
I don't have any porn files at all, legal or otherwise.
Brody Harris
>it generally doesn't show up in
This is called "mounting" or "recognizing" by those who use less technical jargon - it means showing up on your desktop.
If you are mounting other externals or other wise able to use that (presumably) USB port, the problem is the particular drive
It also probably means the drive is damaged. You'll have to excuse me because I didn't pay attention when it was coming in the old thread but I think you indicated that the drive was actually damaged (e.g. something heavy fell, water or other liquid/substance damaged it, or part of it, etc.)
The problem might be the enclosure and the data might be recoverable just by removing the actual drive from the enclosure; this is not hard to do and you can find You Tube videos to walk you through it but I think that's step 3 or 4 from where you are now.
You want the data, but it's probably not going to be hard to recover it, just time consuming and slow-going.
>number of suggestions
I've never heard of freezing; I assume this is for a drive that over-heated (a typical problem for computer drives). You should try to do a search for something that replicates your problem if you recall it. Avoid message board solutions unless you find them trustworthy.
In my case, in a non-Windows environment, I was able to use a external program on a computer - it got my external recognized, repaired it and recovered about 400 GBs of A/V files and I lost about 40-75 GBs, some of which I wasn't able to replace without paying for new replacement files (so I mostly didn't).
A friend in IT gave me the software. I found a number of free, shareware, or similar programs to mine (DiskWarrior for Macs). This looks like the highest rated Windows program - download.cnet.com/Recuva/3000-2242_4-10753287.html (CNET is a good place to safely download programs and it has a good search engine). However, I bet folks here could also give you good/better suggestions.
Good luck!
Nicholas Lewis
A bit Cred Forums this Win-O, today. I' OK with it
I sometimes wonder on that. The Royal-Novus and Talon-Novus scans of stuff which has digital files (for example Supergirl) and which are about 1/3 to sometimes twice the size of the digital rip also look better to me in some cases.
The Glorith tagged rips were released fairly recently, since I had to re-up a few, I figured I would grab the earlier OKC rips and have the complete run. I don't even have all the hybrids myself and I'm not sure if there are Novus hybrids for every single one of these issues, but I'm not going to re-up all those - it becomes too much work.
It's something that USED to work (on much older drives) .... some of the time (due to the way they tended to die). Not a good idea on a modern system.
Oliver Cox
I don't think Cred Forums ever posts rips, only Cred Forums
Hunter White
then I wouldn't bother recovering it. just re-download that shit from the usual sites it's just annoying as fuck if you sorted it into reading orders (crossovers, chronologies of certain characters or groups etc)

>The Dark Horse Comics/DC: Superman
I don't think it's been ripped - the Bats one was ripped and Glorith put out 'digital TPB' rips of the SUPERMAN/BATMAN VS. ALIENS/PREDATOR #1-2 that are contained in the Batman volume.
It doesn't look like either part 1 or 2 of the Superman vs Aliens minis were ripped digitally and the scans look like reasonably decent but SD. Ditto Sons of the Jungle, except the scans I have, which aren't credited but I think might be Abraxis, look a bit better than decent, but still definitely SD (they don't even hit 10MB each).
There are good DCP scans of the Superman/Madman Hullabaloo but this trade seems to be the only thing that contains it.
Joshua Smith
>you indicated that the drive was actually damaged
It was in a Nexstar enclosure (so it's actually easy to take it out). I accidentally nudged it and it tipped over. It was spinning at the time. Best guess is the head got damaged.
I could probably eventually try to swap in a head from a retired drive, but that's best attempted when I have a good chunk of time and a thorough understanding of how to do it.
I don't have access to a non-Windows environment at present.
Luckily not the case. Everything in its own folder. I have a basic inventory in a Word file so I can figure out what I want to re-download.
I am appreciating all the suggestions, and of course the links.
