Is the boys a good comic?

...

I've heard good things.
Why not find a download or torrent of it and give it a read?

(You) just missed a mass storytime of the whole run like a month or so ago.

yes

the boys is great man.

That was some wild shit, also amazing

It's alright, a fun read despite Ennis' typical style of writing with a little bit of cape hate mixed in.

Definitely worth a read.

it alright. not subtle or nuanced like Watchmen, but it alright

It's great

It was good. I think I'm GONNA read it again.

GONNA!

Holy shit.

Is it produced by Blacked.com?

Oh, that guy is an actual Nazi

It's definitely one of Ennis' underrated comics. If you're fine with the edginess and crude humor, there's actually some pretty good writing and characters behind it all.

On a scale of Starlight to Malchemical, how less shitty of a person would the Homelander have been if it weren't for Black Noir fucking with him?

No worse than your average celebrity, probably.

Yes. Read it.

No, but it's entertaining.

>Billy Butcher just decides to start being an asshole for no reason one day
>he then gets a qt gf which he later marries
>wife gets killed by super baby
>Billy proceeds to murder everyone including his friends because "muh waifu is kill m8 fook shit cunt"

What is it with Ennis making characters likeable for the first half and then completely destroying any and all empathy for them?

Yeah because it's not like the first half was filled with foreshadowing or anything.

The ending sucked, there were far too many times where the author's opinions became distractingly obvious at the cost of the storytelling, but it was mostly fun.

He only did that so his little m8 Hughie could become the hero that he himself never had the opportunity or potential to be.

Also spoilers belong in spoiler brackets.

A little too over the top. It's even edgier than Crossed, and i love Crossed.

Hughie is purest husbando.

It's not deep, but the art is good, and I enjoyed it.

I thought it was an immensely fun journey with really likeable characters. Maybe the meta narrative was a little up its own ass but fuck. Don't be a dick. Just enjoy the ride.

He and Tek-Knight would be World's Finest.

It's a fun trip. Worth reading from start to finish. It's way overrated and underrated by people. The ending is very polarizing. If you like anything else by ennis read it.

The real hero walks alone

>that woman taking off her bra.
I didn't realize this before. Toppest kek

Cheeky Ennis.

>Even though this is all a tumour induced hallucination Tek-Knight still dies a hero

Seems legit though. or are you referring Austen's War Machine?

the last part was so shit, thanks i read it years ago and now i remember it made mad, the last 30 or so numbers are a waste of time

The Boys and really Ennis in general is Seth Rogen in comic book form. So no, The Boys is not a good comic.

Kinda sorta. It's better than most comics since it gives some sort of reason for the existence of superheroes, and fleshes out the dangers of superpowers a bit more, and it's pretty entertaining.

[sp]HEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHH[/sp]

had the chance to read the whole thing, minis included, when some kind user storytimed it about a month ago

It was definitely one of the best experiences I've had with a comic book. There were points when the raw emotion that the whole thing splattered at your face was overwhelming.
Seriously, great story, and great characters

Don't miss it (AND DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE SKIP THE MINIS)

I... did things

...

It has some big plot and pacing issues, and the humor is ht/miss. Tonal issues abound.

But you also get Garth Ennis's character writing, which is pretty much industry leading, and it's worth the rest of the bullshit.

Not nearly his best tho. Butcher Baker Candestick Maker is the real star of the series.

(I'm not this guy)
It felt a little sudden to me, even with the foreshadowing. Would love to see it discussed more.

I skipped the minis in my readthrough... what do I do?

Yeah, it's great, though the art goes to shit about half way through it.

read them when Hughie goes back home after quitting The Boys

Start with Huguie's Highland Laddie, and finish with Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker. That last one made me cry like a bitch. It's amazing

also read the Herogasm Mini when, well, you know when
You'll find them all in readcomiconline.to
Herogasm might have been inserted in the ongoing, though...

That doesn't explain why he had to murder Love Sausage and the rest of The Boys.

No

But if he was hoping for Hughie to take him down in the end anyway why murder everyone else too?

sorry for deleting. I figured that shoulda been in spoiler tags

Answering to your question, I don't know man...
I don't think that Butcher was really all there after all the shit he'd been through. I mean, random genocide is Crazed Villain 101

It's decent. It's completely crass and unsubtle, however. Read it for an entertaining moment where you can put your brain aside and enjoy unlimited ultraviolence, crude jokes and british bias.

the only thing i hate about this comic is they dont show the homelanders final fight ennis is the best writer out there imo

Yeah, he's a thor parody. Sold to the public as a reincarnated Viking when he was really just a nazi science experiment left over after the war.

Too edgy for me, like "Yeah, there are superheroes, should we hate them or n... Oh nevermind they already raping new girl, i see", feels very forced. Although im not a big fan of Ennis in total.

Hey now, there were at least 8ish decent heroes. Love Sausage and Starlight were probably the best of them.

it's good if you hate capes and love Ennis' penis.

>i love Crossed.
you can love whatever you want, however I feel I should inform you taht you are cancer

>>Billy Butcher just decides to start being an asshole for no reason one day
>for no reason
nigga, didn't you read Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker? He got it rough

I agree that "for no reason" is a bit much, but that's hardly an excuse for massive world wide murder of innocent people. Makes Mr. HEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHH look small time compared to that shit.

I want to fuck Female without getting horribly murdered.

She might have led a semi-normal life if she just listened to Frenchie and stopped murdering people and left The Boys eventually. She seemed to chill out a bit after Hughie accidentally got her to laugh that one time. Thanks Butcher.

A super strong girl who could potentially kill me in hundreds of different ways riding my cock would make me cum buckets.

Because MARTIAN KILLED ME DOG

>Ennis in general is Seth Rogen
Get the fuck out and never come back.

>Rogen is adapting Ennis's comic books

It's like pottery. It rhymes.

I feel like this guy would fit right in given how much of a dick 99% of the heroes are in this comic. He'd probably like the team during it's early Mallory days when they just killed any hero who committed some atrocity and got off scot-free.

Even in Marvel it seems like superheros are complete wanks to each other. It feels like everybody hates everybody and they hide it behind witty banter.

between Butcher Baker, Candlestick maker, how he treated Super Duper, flashbacks with Mallory, him killing mallory, and his treatment of Frenchie and Female

It should've been pretty well telegraphed.

Redeemable Heroes: Hughie, Starlight, Love Sausage, G-Wiz? Yea, I think that's actually all of them. Maybe that Aquaman knockoff was an okay guy too. I don't recall him doing anything that stood out.

The Deep never did anything outwardly malicious, and was easily the most level-headed of the group. But he wasn't a good guy either.

>his treatment of Frenchie and Female
Can you expand on this? I'm trying to recall which of their interactions gave any hints but I'm drawing blanks.

Ennis is one of my favorite writers but aside Punisher/War comics his later work is more misses than hits. Comapre Hellblazer, Preacher, Hitman vs Crossed, The Boys, Chronciles of Wormwood. Last work of his I enjoyed was Rover Red Charlie but I haven't read All-star Section 8 yet.

The only good work of his are Hitman and Punisher.

Didn't like Preacher? His run on The Demon, Nick Fury books, Thor mini, and Authority Kev comics were pretty fun too.

ASS8 is pretty good. I think the humor falls flat more than in Hitman and McCrea's art doesn't work as well with modern coloring but there are some fantastic issues in there (the last two in particular)
