God damn man, I literally just met him last month at the Chicago Comic Con.

He was at a little booth with other artists (at the big artists' alley setup they had) and I got to shoot the shit with him for a while, he was incredibly nice and he told me some tips on getting into voice acting (mentioning it was a highly competitive field and he only got two gigs in the past year). He had a booklet of drawings he hand made and had up for sale (including a lot of stuff from Space Ghost and Aqua Teen), I picked pic related due to loving Dr. Weird and the particular episode. He told me he actually got the idea for the gag from an old Don Martin cartoon in MAD magazine (which we both thought was the shit), so he added the little Don Martin caption on the picture which let us both laughing in tears.

Fuck man, this is so heartbreaking, he seemed like such a nice guy and I was really hoping to see him at next year's convention so we could do Moltar impersonations together. Rest in peace brother.

I don't know what happened that made him hate the show and why he thinks it's dead to him, but it's clear he doesn't want anything to do with it now. He cancelled the last show that had somewhat ties with Space Ghost last year out of the blue for the creators. That's probably why Adult Swim wouldn't care, because Lazzo's still running it. It's a very complicated thing but that's the main gist of it.

George Lowe (Space Ghost) was a regular Turner employee who would do voice work on the side. It eventually turned into a decent voice over career for him and he left the company. One of the running birthday presents he would offer to other employees was to record a voice mail message in character. I had Space Ghost as my voice mail message for years telling you what a jerk I am not answering the phone.

US Volume 5 covered through 2001. The final 6 episodes were only available if you did the "Build your own DVD" which I never did. The DVD-R pressings offered were pretty shit.

George Lowe is coming to some nothing 1 day con in my nothing city next month and I'm excited as fuck because of how much I love SGC2C.

Man, the whole low budget nature of Space ghost really added to its appeal. Imagine being a kid and watching almost nothing but reruns of shows that had finished their runs a decade+ before you where born. Then this comes on at night. The whole thing feels like a secret prank on the network the audience was in on.

I just checked my (AUS) Volume 5 and it only has the 1999 to 2002 episodes (seasons 6 and 7 according to wiki).

I'll check if the complete pack has ALL the episodes when it arrives, as that's how it bills itself, but I'm leaning more towards it just being a compilation of the 5 available seasons.

I used to play it so loud it'd boom all over the house. Amazing to learn just how far reaching his contributions where to Cartoon Network i general, beyond voice acting.

Not only was Croker animation director on ATHF and voice both Dr. Weird and Steve, he also designed Shake and Carl (and probably Meatwad. It's been a while, I don't remember it anymore).
Not to mention all the work he did on Space Ghost C2C, being such a driving force behind it.
Also, he was (apparently) one of DesignEFX's best animators when he worked there.

see i discovered all this shit almost all at once, but I imagine it had to have been weird for people who were following it all along, who saw the shit first on TBS, who were actually watching the new revival of hanna-barbera and understood it as an entity.. who watched these goofy no-budget shows made of old footage.. and then watched them become a BRAND. and then suddenly that brand became like CN's entire mascots, so when they had a new anime block.. it was being "broadcast from ghost planet" and hosted by moltar.

Where did it all go so wrong?

user, I was in middle school when C2C started and stumbled on it. As most in the same boat as me will say, it was transformative. Being a weirdo outcast in school, then finding this strange show that no one knew about. Tuning in not even knowing if it would show up even. If you caught SGC2C when it first came on, it was defining as shit.

I just rewatched it all earlier this year, along with all of cartoon planet (which it turns out I never saw everything of, and only half-remembered what I had seen. i KNEW i knew count floyd from somewhere before discovering freaks and geeks and SCTV) and the brak show (which.. hoo boy, did not age well by the end. kinda like aquateens and all the tim and eric shows). so at least I can say i've had the full ghost planet experience

True enough; I've had legit food poisoning exactly once in my life and spent some 3 days alternately on my back or barfing from both ends, as in, ass over the toilet and face over the tub at full blast. Barely kept liquids down. Most miserable I have ever been. Didn't feel as if I needed to go to the hospital if only because I knew I was drinking enough liquids to counter all I was losing.

THAT SAID, I also didn't feel any sort of pain and it took nearly six hours to hit the first bout of barfing, and massive cardiac episodes are often described as starting out feeling like serious stomach/abdominal pain.

A general Space Ghost thread would be awesome.
