Shelf/Recent Purchases Thread

My collection is all in one place for the first time in months, so lets have a buyfag thread.

How's Morrison's Swamp Thing?

Deservedly forgotten.

My purchases this week.

Are you just a Morrison hater or is it bad compared to his other work?

Sneaky. Morrison gets top billing on the TPB, but he was only involved in the first 4 of the 10 issues included. It's good but wouldn't rush out to read it. Rest is the beginning of Millar's run.

Why was Morrison&Millar a thing.
They did Flash too.
Was Morrison training Millar?

Keep meaning to check out Paper Girls. How do you like it?

Millar was Morrison's protege and friend.

Both.

Most recent stuff

shit taste my man

How's Fables?

Don't worry, user: one day, when you escape your 20s, you'll discover there's more to comics than Postmodernism 101.

...

Kill 6 Billion Demons got a physical comic? Fuck, looks like I'm going to add that to the pull list.

Damn, I like how those Jojo's Bizarre Adventure books look. Are they worth a buy? I've never read them.

I loved it. Hits the same buttons something like Stranger Things does.

Amazing for the first 8 or 9 of those books, then the initial overarching story comes to an end and I sort of lost interest. Keep meaning to go back to it, there's one or two more of those HC collections out now that I've not picked up yet.

Honestly, I expected to like them more than I did. They're okay, but just hearing the series described sounded like it would be something I'd love. Haven't got around to reading beyond those 3 yet, so maybe it picks up later on.

>Why was Morrison&Millar a thing.
Water finds its level.

But Millar isn't nearly Morrison tier.

>inb4 yeah because Millar's actually good

>'
damn
*Millars

Actually Millar's correct.

fug i'm tired

As with anything written by Bill Willingham, the work is informed by a small-town mentality, which I found intolerable after a few issues. Also, the early part of the book is really in love with the Jack character, whose obnoxiousness the reader is supposed to find endearing.

...

enlighten me wise one

So, kinda like OnePunch Man?

I'm not a Jojo fan at all but Part 1 is pretty different from the rest of the series and what people like about. Part 2 is quite a bit better. Parts 3 and 4 are the stuff that's actually popular.

...

Yeah, parts 1 and 2 are completely different from where the series goes from part 3 onward.

Been thinking I should get Sandman and Y: The Last Man, but haven't gotten around to starting on either.
So many books. So many.

Will post pic later because phone batter is dead atm.

>100 Bullets Deluxe HC Vol. 2, 4
Rest on the way. Got lucky on on both. Vol. 2 usually goes for over $200. Vol. 4 close to $100. Got both for $40 each in excellent condition.

>Annihilation Conquest Omnibus
Completing the Marvel cosmic saga.

>Hexed Vol. 1 TPB
Don't know why this is going for $500 online. My first BOOM! TPB and it is pretty bad quality.

>Jack Kirby's O.M.A.C.

>Master of Kung Fu Omnibus 1
Don't know much about the series other than the amazing art and layouts from a few Cred Forums threads.

>Neat Stuff Box Set

and most importantly
>Winsor McCay: The Complete Little Nemo, 2 Vol. Set
It's huge and it's amazing.

So I just bout my last 4 volumes of Transmetro and vol. 8 is missing dialogue, do I just go back to the shop to return it or what?

Just got back from SPX. Bought all of this shit. Really cool show. I'll probably end up going back next year.

It's like video games nowadays. You have to pay extra to download the words. It's a bonus add-on feature that will enhance your reading pleasure.

...

X-Factor was great. What does Peter David write currently?

Don't know, but last year he co-authored Stan Lee's autobiographical comic Amazing Fantastic Incredible.

Spider-Man 2099.

Everytime I buy something I never read it and just read my pirated stuff on my Ipad instead. I don't know why I even bother buying stuff, just for it to sit on my bookshelf collecting dust.

What are you talking about? All those 100 Bullet Deluxe HC's are at my LSC for cover price.

>Was Morrison training Millar?
Not training, Millar was having problems getting into the American industry, but since Grant already had a foothold he got editors to approve him bringing on his pal as co-writer

Midtown has a big up to 75% off sale going on right now.

based Morrison

Buy them ASAP.

Ordering a bunch more on Friday, because a 5-week month payday is always time for me to throw money at things. Goon #3, Umbrella Academy, maybe a few deluxes - could swing to an Absolute - and almost definitely the Planetary Omni.

And do I want to get on the housing ladder, or do I want to buy the screen-replica Dredd Helmet?

And Kill Six Billion Demons.

I don't live near any LCS.
Online, they're pretty much gone.

...

Payday on Thursday so thinking of buying Morrison's Doom Patrol run as well as the 52 omnibus.

Is the 52 omnibus worth buying?

It's either that or the Justice League New 52 run.

Will probably pick up volumes 5, 6 and 7 of JLA seeing as I have Morrison's run

He wrote four non-remarkable issue. It's just there.
Millar wrote the rest (as well as the next two trades) and it's pretty good. I'm not always a fan of where he goes but I gotta admit that he does it in a really original and creative way which I'm not complaining. His run his worth a read desu.

doom patrol and 52 omni are a must

New stuff

Shelf stuff

100 Bullets that good then?

How is The New Deal?

Yes, I've been meaning to reread them.

I see the Gotham Central Omnibus in a lot of these pics. I've never read any of them. What all is it about?

Cops working in Gotham.

I can't say totally objectively. It was my first non-big 2 comic and I fell in love with it.
Will reread soon to see if it is as good as I remember.

>non-big 2
But it's a Vertigo book. It's DC.

...And it gets added to the list.

Annoyingly, I've worked out what I'm getting paid and it's less than I thought. I need to make me some money.

>Completing the Marvel cosmic saga.
You say that, but War of Kings, Realm of Kings+Thanos Imperative and that sweet bit between Annihilation and War of Kings are all getting omnibuses between November and May.

Missing my other Ghostbusters. Want more Ducks, I Kill Giants, and comic theory books.

Been buying less lately because I've had less time to read. Still behind on Hellboy.

>IDW's Ghostbusters
Noice. Any plans on picking up Total Containment?

Being borrowed at the moment. I really liked it, but I'm a sucker for Ghostbusters.

...

I've been buying the Barks collections and have Old Castles Secret, Lost in the Andes, Only a Poor Man, and Seven Cities of Gold. I think I'm going to move onto Rosa now

Any of the other Barks ones feel essential to own?

...

...

Aside from the obvious harcover/softcover difference, are there any major differences between the Hellboy library editions and the trade paperbacks. If the hardcovers go out of print and skyrocket before I get around to getting them, I'm curious if I have another option.

If you want to know what happened to the books, as in stored in a smoke free environment and not abused and so on get them now, They are worth it just to have them in binded book form at the price they ask. Unless some unforeseen boom happens i dont think they will print more than they can seel right now ever again at that.

How did you manage to pick up the BPRD hardcovers?

Not available any more?

These came yesterday, love the epic collections

>Shit taste
>Liking Morrison

Hypocrite confirmed.

Get the new paperbacks, more content than the omni and its not a big brick of a book to try and read.

Its great, its about the GCPD and all the crazy shit they have to deal with.

Yeah and the second half of 52 comes out around xmas sometime i think, i had the date written down but i can't find it.

.....whats in the box?

Contrarian confirmed.

Headphones!

when's dc going to do an omnibus for elliot s maggin superman

Honestly, they seem to be releasing them in order of most to least essential. You should be fine to switch to Rosa anytime.

What is the order of collect 80s-90s Batman story arcs in TPBs/HCs?

Knightfall, No Mans Land, etc

I assume the magazine holders are single issues? I was thinking of using the Ikea wood ones but then doing this youtube.com/watch?v=BZ-fSm9LyOs with some cool comic art, probably something Mignola

>are there any major differences between the Hellboy library editions and the trade paperbacks.

I find the quality of DH regular paperbacks to be pretty low. Like I've never had a problem with those huge Usagi Yojimbo collections, but Mister X and Lobster Johnson easily came detached from the cover and I had to reglue the pages

i saw a book of his at a used bookstore. It was Last Son of Krypton and i didn't get it because that seemed like just an origin story

I stuck with it to the end. Stopping at that TPB 9 point genuinely loses you nothing. I was so disheartened it ended so very poorly. The soap boxing gets a bit much, stories go nowhere and the end feels a lot like a whimper. Maybe others disagree.

I read January 3rd.
Just obtained How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Annotated Sandman v1, One-Punch Man v2, Batman 66v3, Ryan North's "Romeo and/or Juliet", Batman- Zero year: Dark City HC, Batman: The Golden Age v1...

...The Fix v1, Injection v1-2, and Kill 6 Billion Demons.

...

Part 2 is a lot more fun/zanier. Has an actually fun protagonist to follow who is a direct contrast to Jonathan in that he doesn't fight "like a gentlemen" and instead hustles/grifts his way to victory.

The first half of part 3 isn't great as it's a repetitive "battle of the week" thing with just endless Stand assassins. But the second half is a fun ride.

Part 4 is fucking amazing.

Also the art improves significantly and the author really finds his niche instead of just copying Fist of the North Star like he does in the first part.

Man I wish DC would have released that Baron/Jones Deadman collection as a regular paperback or Deluxe. Paying 80 bucks for a 4 issues is a bit much, even if the quality of these "Gallery Edition" collections are amazing, I don't love those two minis quite THAT much.

Those Hellboy library editions are fucking gorgeous.

Recent arrivals.

How did you find "How to talk to girls at parties"?

Gf liked Daytripper and loves Junot Diaz (who is quoted on the cover).

>Judge Dredd "America"
You're in for a treat, creep.

Just picked up both volumes of Descenders. Got Eternaut on preorder.

i'm like a little into the 2nd book of part 3, i keep waiting for it to click. just finished the boat fight.

i expected more music refs

1-4 are only in print in paperback now.

Fuck

Less music refs in 3 cause Stands are still named after Tarot Cards. More of a part 4 thing desu.

It clicks when they get to Egypt. Like the minute they land and fight N'Doul.

1/5

2/5

3/5

4/5

In first bit of Part 3 the Stands are kind of dull and utilised in uninteresting ways. But in latter half of part 3 it's a lot more of interesting powers used in neat ways.

Part 4 is the favourite of most western readers and is really worth getting to.

Like part 3 isn't exciting because every stand user they meet is just another assassin with the exact same goal "Kill the stardust crusaders for our lord and saviour, DIO".

Part 4 is like if 10% of a small town got some of the weirdest super powers you'll see. They run into stand users, some are just normal kids, some art criminals, some run legitimate businesses....and one is the devil himself.
(seriously part 4 has the best villain)

5/5

That bit in Dark Knight where the one black guy in it who wasn't one of the muggers asks him if they were black and he says no and they have a fist bump is the WEIRDEST part of that book.

That and Paul Dini comes across as kind of a dick complaining about some actress friend-zoning him.

To anyone who has it: How is the new 52 Book 1 re-release? I just recently heard they re-released the first 26 issues into one volume. So is it actually a oversized trade paperback or a hardcover?

>i keep waiting for it to click. just finished the boat fight.

I feel like Hol Horse and J. Geil is when 3 really clicked for me

What's some essential stuff from Drawn & Quarterly?

Give me Johns' Green Lantern vol 1, 2 and 3 now

That moment it was really weird. I did appreciate that he wasn't holding back about the story and said exactly how he felt.

Holy Quitely Batman

>Death and Return of Superman
>one of my favorite Superman stories, despite some of its flaws, and the one that got me into comics way back in the 90s
>all re-releases in my country ignore the World Without Superman part of the story or butcher shit in other ways
>buy the omnibus on Amazon, four times the price due to dollar conversion + a month to get delivered
>excited for my first omnibus, since only TPBs and small hardcover editions get released in my country (never held an ominibus before)
>it finally arrives
>open the book
>pic related

My soul is crushed, friends. I can still read it just fine, but that makes it so fucking ugly... The hassle that would be to have another copy delivered is just too much... I think I might contact a book restorer at some point to at least mend the actual book to the cover.

Should I take it as a lesson to never buy Omnibus editions in the future? Anyone else willing to share terrible stories about their purchases, recent or not?

Recent cops.

Gotta slow myself down.

>>buy the omnibus on Amazon
Big fucking mistake, buddy.

Shit son, where's your Watchmen?

I never had trouble with TPBs and small hardcover editions from my country's Amazon branch, but this Omnibus edition was only available on US' Amazon... Is this a common thing?

Amazon used to be great with the packaging on books, but they have gotten increasingly worse over the years. I mean seriously how much does a little bit of padding really cost?

You should return it if you bought from Amazon themselves, they should ship you another copy for free and give you instructions in sending back the damaged copy. That shouldn't happen and it's too much money to just accept your fate.

I've only had trouble with Amazon paperbacks, the hardcovers have come fine but it is a little risky since they don't package things as well as other places.

Had no idea.

I'll try to snag em up.

I would return it in a heartbeat if it was my country's Amazon branch, but the time it would take for me to get another copy and the pain of having to ship it to american Amazon is just too much for me, even though it cost a lot of money. I'll try to get it restored by a professional, since only that part of the book is fucked up. It just made me sad to see such an amazing edition not properly packed.

I don't really like Watchmen that much. Also that's two posters

They might send the replacement via a faster shipping method than you ordered especially if you call to complain at least in my experience. But if you don't want to, you don't want to. Your choice in the end.

God damn, I wish I didn't start reading Dredd. So many complete case files to buy...

Ahh, same thing happened to my Absolute Kingdom Come.

Is it fun? Not going to lie, I know Hellboy is great, but I mostly enjoy it for his witty one liners.

>Is it fun?
No. It's satire on how stupid superheroes are.

...

Okay, thanks user. Sorry, super drunk.

theres three tpb's for knightfall iirc and about the same for no mans land. theyre not the best overall though... if i was going to get some batman from that era it'd be Legends of the Dark Knight.

its a big thick tpb, and it has more backup content than the omni, but still doesnt have the weekly play by play of the 4 vol tpbs from years ago, which blows. but its still the best one available now unless you like giant fucking beastly shelfporn omni's

given the way it looks i'd bet a book restorer would just do a proper job of glueing it back together, it looks like the cardboard seperated so its not even to the binding area of the actual book.

do some googling about amatuer book restoration i bet theres a proper way for you to get it back in proper shape with minor expense.... and desu i'd be more proud of a book i fixed even it it was from some stupid shipping problem.

I was thinking of picking up the stan lee daredevil omnibus. Are the stories in here worth reading? I'm kind of bummed I picked up the mark waid Daredevil OHCs now that an omnibus has been announced.

I haven't read it but from what i understand it's probably not something super entertaining unless you like checking out how comics were back in the day... Frank Miller didn't create the character but he sure as shit defined it. If you've read his run and Nocentis that followed it with JRjr on art I'd suggest Brubaker's stint on the book... some people really like the Bendis run but i couldn't really get into it.

Those are different types of Daredevil stories user

I advise that you read a few issues before you decide to buy that

Do you any good places in toronto that are worth checking out? I go to one million comix and occasionally check out the other places near there.

It's good and well worth a read (name my son Jack because I was reading this at the time).

However, I petered out shortly after issue #100 I think. Once the big battle was over, I just kinda lost interest...

I've read millers, bendis, brubakers and diggles run on daredevil. The only thing I've read from Nocentis run was lone stranger. Is the rest of Nocentis run in epic collection form?

Picked up Godzilla Rage Across Time.

>one million comix
They have a great back issue collection there.

I usually go to BMV for trades

I've started going to bmv on spadina. The one near the eaton center is pretty lame but I was able to get volume 3 of johns flash omnibus there. To bad it was the version with the printing error.

theres a smaller omni of it out but it was released a year or so ago. I like the run but I'm biased because im a JRjr fanboy.

Lone Stranger is 265-273
The Epic Collection A Touch of Typhoid is 253-270

I got Morrison's Doom Patrol Omni there a few weeks ago.

The BMV at Spadina was much more a few years ago when the Canadian dollar wasn't shit

Hour are they compared to other Godzilla comics?

Our dollar being shit is horrible. Im trying to get john's jsa omnibus for a decent price.

>order Brightest Day omni
>find out it's infamous for its shitty binding

well fuck. Any way I can fix it if it starts falling apart?

Yep, you're right, the binding seems intact. I'm afraid of fucking things up even more if I try to restore it myself, though.

eh fuck it, I might actually just count my losses and try to sell it on reddit and get most of my money back then buy the tpbs

Its been one issue, but Rage Across Time looks to be one hell of a ride. Godzilla burning The eight-headed snake Orochi was a highlight to the first issue. Second issue has him fighting Zeus and the other Olympian gods.

This art looks like some shit that would be on the walls of a dojo, very cool.

Oh, I know. I meant in the process of completing.

Would you guys recommend early Bendis Avengers? Like New Avengers and Mighty Avengers? I see that the trades aren't too terribly expensive, was thinking about picking a couple up.

Also infamous for it's shitty writing

>Brightest Day

Shout out to POFG who sent me a copy of the first Scarlet Spider hardcover. It looks like it'll be an interesting read.

10/10 would hang out with

IF it's an Amazon purchase, regardless of country, they're responsible for replacing their damaged goods. Typically, they've told me to just keep the damaged copy and send a free replacement by way of apology. On the rare occasion they've asked for it back, they've provided me with a return shipping label via email so that I don't have to pay shipping for their mistake.

The best thing to do is, rather than contact them through the "email us" button, be sure to use the "live chat" option or whatever they call it. Email typically tells you to return the item and they'll get back to you once they receive the damaged goods, but a live representative can get you a replacement sent ASAP without having to return the item first. Just make sure that, on the off-chance they DO need the damaged one back and send you a return label, you return it because they WILL charge you a second time if they don't get it back when they asked for it.

Glad you got the package man.

Yeah, I meant to let you know earlier. I'm not sure how to feel about Disney's Totoro dub after seeing the Fox Family version so many times with my daughter, but the picture and sound are gorgeous on Blu-Ray and all the extras are really nice.

I've still got to sit down to watch Nausicaa sometime to see how much of an improvement it is over my DVD copy.

If people are posting shit to each other, would anyone in the UK want some free shit?

I tidied up my stuff recently and have a few duplicates I've either picked up by mistake or have replaced with other collections of the same material.

Not a lot, just the first Hellboy TPB, two different versions of Serenity: Better Days and Fables vol 10 HC. Not worth much in resale and they're just sat in a cupboard, so I'd fire them off to someone here if they wanted them.

Am I the only one with my comics in a chronological order, and separated by publisher?

yes

I'm sure other people here have autism too.

>chronological order
Oh I put vol 2 after vol 1 and 3 after 2 etc. as well, you're not unique in that regard.

Christmas on Bear Mountain is Scrooge's first appearance if that fancies you. I guess it depends on what you mean by essential since really all of these books have great material in them.

Step-dad called from the thrift store, found the first Hellblazer trade for three euros.
I've read the whole thing, but for whatever reason haven't gotten around to purchasing any of the books, so this was a very pleasant surprise.
Just hoping the seller will put out at least the next three also.

Neat Stuff Box Set

Marvel

best female bromance (is there a word for it?) comic

and finally

I've been looking into getting some Bagge. Wasn't sure to go with Neat Stuff which seems pretty cheap for what it is or the Buddy collections from Hate

Buddy (and other Bradleys) originated in Neat Stuff and then continued in Hate.
If you are an autist completist like, me Neat Stuff is a pretty good start.

I'd take them but id suggest donating them to your local library instead.

So essentially everything? Fair enough lol. I'm visiting Montreal and they have some book launch/signing thing happening tonight at their flagship store so I figured I'd go check it out.

I've got Deadpool Corps prolouge and vol 2, I'm gonna get the Deaadpool Classic Corps because it's impossible to find vol 1 for a reasonable price. I also have Harry Potter 1 on blu ray.

>The Superman Chronicles Vol 3
What happened to 1 and 2?

3 was on sale. Haven't read it yet, gonna buy 1 & 2 first

Those Walking Dead compendiums look great. I'm a slut for big, thick books for whatever reason.

Too cheap? To expensive? Thrift stores are great for deals. If you find them. Picked up Crumb's Book of Genesis hc for less than 3 bucks near new several years ago.

It's wrong because it's so cheap when I had to pay real money for it.

The next one doesn't come out for another two years, and I'm trying to convince my girlfriend not to buy the small volumes. She just grunts when I say they don't look good on the shelf

You'd think a woman would care about the aesthetics.

Yeah, that's one of the drawbacks of having a non-stereotypical gf

Looks mighty nice but it's so darn expensive. Do you own that Little Nemo anthology from a few years ago with different artists doing stories?

Explain to her that anonymous strangers on the internet will be more impressed with a big, black volume.

Start scouring thrift stores for those deals then. You never know what gem you can find.

I'm stuck in a hotel for the week because of work, so popped into a comic shop to get some stuff to pass the time.

My most recent purchase.

Jelly as fuck, altough I already have all the trades that collected Neat Box except the Studs Kirby one. So I just don't see the point in buying this other than the look of it.

If you want to get into Bagge, start with the Hate collections Buddy Does Seattle and Buddy Does Jersey. Read anything else from there except Other Lives which was a really bad comic he made for Vertigo some years back.

Well thanks to this thread I just bought Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow. I see that in quite a few pics. I've never read Green Arrow before, but I am enjoying Lemire's current run on Old Man Logan and Extraordinary X-Men.

Thanks tho these threads I bought
>Superior Foes of Spider-Man omnibus
>Gotham Central
>Sandman
>The Invisibles
The only thing I regret is the Invisbles

I was seriously considering the Gotham Central Omnibus. Maybe next month.

Scored a Mask omni #2 for 20% off, maybe someday Dark Horse will reprint them. Also scored some beautiful Astro City hardcovers and waiting on volumes 2 and 3.

>That Kelly JLA
Nice one, friend.

Completely out of room!

Just get the hate! trades, imo hate! is way better than neat stuff and most things he did.

Some sort of BD?

>usagi hasn't even been taken out of the plastic

Aye, I'm going through Reads and Minds and switching to Usagi after.

Well, the first two aren't very good.

how's the incal? is it a recolored edition?

I'm legitimately considering shelling out the extra cash for those Fourth World omnibus releases in hardcover. Now that I have a full time desk job I can actually afford at least one or two a paycheck, and that cover art is too damn gorgeous to settle with the paperback.

I find Jodo's writing to be pretty basic, but it's a fun read and beautiful, nonetheless, and it features the original coloring. Dark Horse will soon release a collected volume of Moebius' work, which is a must buy.

...

i found this solid wood shelf by the road. i mean they literally gave it to me for free. all it needs is two small screws for god sakes.

I just use two wood crates from home depot

...

Just picked up these figures. I really like Spaceknight, and the teen bodies have a surprising range of flexibility.

Jesus christ. How much?

...

Fucking heathens.

...

...

...

...

...

The recolour has essentially been erased from existence at this point, although the post-incal series use it.

Swamp thing and Jake car not in pic.

Got these on the weekend.

>Astro City
A+

>lets have a buyfag thread.

>Post your shelves/recent purchases

Forgot these.

You showed just figures. If you want to contribute have some comics to go with them. Otherwise post on

What is Friends of Maxx? Like a spin-off or some kind of reprint?

Where's a good place to buy book shelves?

ikea

Is that where you get yours?

Too bad the art is garbage.

Not him, but that's where I got mine. They're nice and sturdy.

Reminder.

Can't wait for Bronze Age Batman.

Alright then, first chance I get I'll have to go there and get me one.

yeah. I got Ikea billy shelves. The narrow ones won't bow if you have omnis or thick books.

cant wait for bronze age GL

Bronze Age Brave and the Bold is going to be great.

What's the Vertigo one next to Albion?

Enigma

Still rocking an Iphone 4s so the camera isn't so good.

...

And the backlog I'll one day finish. About 3/4 done with JSA.

>SIDEWAYS BOOKS

wtf are you doing my man? gravity is not going to be kind to those tomes

I got no room left, its the only way.

whats that thick wonderwoman one in the top right?

either you live with your parents or you're too cheap to invest in storage either way you have a few thousand dollars in books

At least put the heavy books normal, when you stack them like that youre crushing the spines

Wonder Woman by Mike Deodato or Greg Rucka.

Too small of an apartment. The other wall is full of games, manga and dvds.

I kept a lot of my books like that before and the pages got wavy due to the pressure over time

Seems to be a three issue mini series from 1996 that Wildstorm released later on as Vol 6 from the looks of it.

One day I will know the bliss of a backlog this small.

Recently picked up batman golden age. Any other books from that line worth checking out?

How is Kill Six Billion Demons? What is it like? How many pages is that edition?

Give me your infinite crisis and Hickman fantastic 4 you dirty slut

What's Muscle Temple about besides pro-wrestling obviously?

Finally got around to buying the Showcase Presents: Blue Beetle trade to accompany my Booster Gold one. I still need to grab the second Jonah Hex and sixth or seventh (whichever the newest one is) Batman before they become scarce like some of the others have.

this kills the comic...

>Atlas Shigged
>But no Ditko

>Hear about Absolute Year One
>Get excited and go to find a website to pre-order
>$125 for the original and a recolor together
>DC literally making people pay for the same comic twice

This seems pretty Jewy to me, and I've been a Hebrew man since 7th grade.
Why the fuck didn't they just go with the version Mazzucchelli preferred?

Money, dear boy.

How does one do this?

I mean, yeah. It's an Absolute so I figured it would be close to $100 even for just one version of the book but still seems kind of dumb to jack up the price and include both versions when the original artist has bitched about the recolor version.

I'm digging your taste, Brogeking.

Good night bump.

Question people, I already have the batman chronicles 1 and the superman chronicles 3 (I'm ). Should I sell those at a loss and just get the Golden omnibuses instead? the chronices are abandoned and hard to find at a good price. Are the omnibus collections likely to be abandoned?

I don't think the omnis will be abandoned. Specially at the speed they've been burning through them.

So they're a good buy? I'm worried since I don't want to jump from one shitty line onto another shitty one

It's just gag straps about wrestling, most of them referencing WWE stuff. I found it pretty amusing.

bump

Thanks for the heads up. Finding out everything's going out of print and will soon be impossible to find really gave me the kick in the pants I needed to actually start my collection. They're be the first Cred Forums thing I've spent more than ten bucks on.

>IC omnibus

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Is there something wrong with it?

It's OOP and goes for like $450

How's it so rare? Just checked amazon and the going rate is over a grand, I bought it about 4.5 years ago for $100.

>paying $1000 for paper

p10 bump

My order was split for whatever reason, so I got JLA books 2 and 3 this morning.
Also picked up n52 Martian Manhunter and Rucka's Wondie.

That Gotham Omnibus is fucking beautiful.

They haven't reprinted it since it came out. There's an Absolute I think for the anniversary but I assume it's just the main mini.

Is everything upside-down in Australia?

>so I got JLA book 2
I just ordered that too.

I've never read Rock of Ages, so i'm hyped.

Well yeah, it's on the other side of the world so they're always upside down.

Sell me on the Omega memes

What is the buzz about?

It's a promo when Vertigo was just coming out.
Sorry. Got no idea what happened there.

I'm curious as well. from what I can tell its gotg with kyle rayner? But I thought everyone hated kyle

Question to americans, what's the price in LCS's compared to Amazon/online? In the UK amazon is usually half the price, which sucks because shopping in store is so much more fun.

After a very long time awhile, I'm back to buying comics.

In the mail: Complete Age of Apocalypse Epic 1-4
X-Men Legacy 1-24

No updated shelf since all my books are in storage. Pray for their spines.

Nice crop y'all

About the same. Mostly my LCS is retail price, but sometimes they have sales but even then they don't come close to online pricing. I buy enough singles there that i don't feel bad about buying off the internet for trades and hardcovers.

Which shops are you looking in?

Amazon is always more expensive than places like Forbidden Planet or Traveling Man. Was looking at a few things just today. The Cassandra Cain Batgirl books are £15 in FB, and range between £15 and £18 on Amazon. The New 52 Swamp Thing TPBs are £11 in FB, and can he up to £15 on Amazon.

Rarely a lot in it, but always cheaper in store. Even cheaper from their website.

Fuck, most amazon third party sellers are cheaper than amazon itself.

Ordered pic related and the third New Teen Titans trade today from Ist.

>gotg with kyle rayner?
Not even close.

I thought this wasn't coming out for a few more weeks. I saw it on IST earlier and was wondering if they made a mistake.

This cover is already sold out on IST.

wtf I had a 2% discount I wanted to use.

My most recent purchases over the last few months. Super happy about the BLAME book, I've always wanted to own them, and now they are an oversized collection, I couldn't ask for anything more. Going to get those new Planetes books in the future. Also not pictures is MONIKA by Guilliam March and Thilde Barboni. Good story and amazing art, it's just strangely paced, and set up.

fucking christ

I've been waiting for a Blame reprint for almost a decade, man... And I was so happy... until I found out the new collection is slightly redrawn in his more clean recent style. Fuck. Still gonna get them but FUCK!

What is this? He redrew everything?

>an oversized collection
I wish more manga got that treatment. Ghost in the Shell and Akira have a great ones and there is some shonen stuff I don't read lie Fairy Tail

The Vizbigs are also nice

I have those gundam origin books they put out. Fucking beautiful collection those hardcovers.

He redrew everything?
Well, not quite but he touched them up, took out some of the black to brighten up the images and things look smoother, characters, backgrounds etc. It's ...not that bad, I mean, it still looks gorgeous but it's not quite the absolutely stunning original drawings. Oh why am I telling you this, you can see for yourself better.

What is Dead Moon and how do interiors look?

I will try to compare the pages, but I've only previously read Blame on old scans.

It's half artbook and half novella. Imagine romeo and Juliette in an oriental style. Luis Royo is probably my favorite painter which is why I got it. Pic related is an example of his artwork in the book, but the actal book ranges from fully painted to sketches and such.

It's gonna be noticeable if you directly compare them but if you don't look at the old version the changes aren't that big. it's just cleaner/smoother/brighter but it still looks great.

I'm hoping they release Abara in english too, I quite liked that one.

You've got me curious now, so I'm gonna see what's changed. Man I fucking hope they put out Abara. That book has prime monster and world designs.

Like I said, if you're looking at that image and not noticing anything different then I'd recommend not revisiting the old version at all. Unless you prefer the new version. The changes aren't HUGE, like I said, just a bit brighter/less black because some people had trouble understanding what was happening on the pages.

Its about a bunch of basically political terrorists in space that kidnap Kyle Rayner and use him as a tool, the writing is tight, the art is pretty cool and uses a grid for the most part, its just a good dc cosmic story involving a green lantern.

Basically the same format as what King did with The Vision over at Marvel.

Eh no thanks. From the cover it looked like it might be a pro-wrestling version of Superjail, which I'd be fine with. But I don't care for WWE anymore.

Holy fuck, Johns' GL vol 1 omni just came in and this has got to be one of the biggest books I've ever seen.

this book is gonna be very expensive in a few years

what edition is this?

Just finished the Playwright by Eddie Campbell and Daren White. Good book, glad I took a chance on it. Now I think I'm gonna finally try and tackle a shitload of Usagi Yojimbo.

It's a bit beastly but it's pretty well made. I think my Punisher omni is the same size but it used thicker paper at the time.

1. It's brand new.

haven't you seen Doom Patrol or Invisibles omnibus?

I think he might have meant what type of collection, which I think they're talking about the omnibus for Dr. Strange.

If not, well, they're talking about the omnibus for Dr. Strange.

What sort of discounts do you get if you go to a comic-con and a LCS has a vendor table?

I mean, I assume it's obviously not going to be worth the price of admission for just the discounts, but is it comparable to what IST or Amazon would offer you>

yeah, I meant is it an omnibus, or a marvel masterworks or something else

Oh, it's an omnibus. Ditko/Lee era.

Collecting material from STRANGE TALES (1951) #110-111 and #114-146, and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #2.

oh, okay.
I was just thrown off by the cover.

Don't know anything about Strange but I love me some Ditko

I suggest you buy the Sin City or Conan omni from Dark Horse.

I hadn't realized Black Science was that much bigger than the typical Image hardcover

>already sold out

jfc.

I really like the Ross cover tho, dude's gotten really better lately

Yes, but unfortunately the book used glue-binding instead of sewn-binding so it's a pain in the ass to read. Still don't regret buying it though cause the art looks fantastic at that size. I wish all hardcovers were this big.

I want that beast to defend my home from intruders.

As if you could effectively wield it.

>I wish all hardcovers were this big.
Yeah, I mean it's almost the size of that absolute

They're the same size; it's just the slipcase makes it look bigger.

The Ditko cover is still availabe on Cheapgraphicnovels, but it's about $10 more.

Yeah it seems like one of those books thats awesome but if you don't treat it with care it won't hold up

inb4 a year from now ppl bitching about how their black science hardcovers are falling apart

Hows Fear Agent?

Starts off kinda shaky but by the end it was one of the best sci-fi comics I've ever read.

> I probably won't live to see the day I ger a copy of Scud's collection. Hardcover or not.

It hurts

Well I mostly meant third party sellers Amazon. I can't justify buying things at Forbidden Planet anmore

Bump

...

There is the convenience factor. Third party sellers might take over a week to arrive, which is an eternity once you're used to Prime or just popping into a shop. I'll pay £3ish more to get it quicker, but no more than that.

I just picked up Gyo last week. The cashier asked what it was about and I felt like a retard trying to come up with a description that was both accurate and didn't sound stupid.

>crazy japanese horror about mechanized killer fish
Done.

"It's about Gashunk Sharks. Gyo fuck yourself"

If I want to read Abnett's GotG, do I really need to read Annihilation and all that other cosmic shit to follow it?

bump

I tried to read without reading annihilation and didn't like it much

So hyped for these.

Well you should read Annihilation because it's much better.

Abnett's Guardians is easily one of the most overrated runs of modern Marvel, and Annihilation is no better.
