And that's it. Thoughts on Raven's new series?

They're greatest fear is being preggers?
Sheesh

My mum has Hummel's like that. Nice touch.

Honestly? Kind of awful. Writing isn't enjoyable to read, plot seems boring even WITHOUT Trigon, the only thing saving it is the art.

I wouldn't call it awful
It's just... not fun

I expected mediocrity and that's what I got

That's pretty realistic. I knew chicks in hs who were scared as fuck because it was just a shit position to be in.

>muggles.
Thats just embarrassing
Still seems interesting so far.

As essentially a "new reader" it didn't draw me in to read a second issue. Could be a younger audience thing? Though in that case maybe more school, less weirdness?

I think awful fits it fine, it's a first issue and it completely fails to excite me for this series.

I liked it a few rough edges and that muggles line was horrible (but raven storys having some sort of embarrassing how do you do fellow kids line is pretty much tradition at this point) but it seems promising certaintly better then her emo series was.

I like this page helps establish her powers and gives her some nice interaction with the supporting cast.

Decent so far.

>Muggles
>Raven is a harry potter fan
NERD

Wolfman just gets teens y'know?

The whole high school thing is dumb.

Its auctualy genius writing by focusing on a single word instead of a full thought they cant possibly write anything butfuck retarded.

Having everybody thinking about a difrent thing is smart to that way they cant be behind on fads.

Reading it for Raven
Not the story
Not the art

Just because it is Raven

Did she just impregnate those girls?

She explicitly says its just an illusion.

Great face in panel one.

>muggles
NO

POST

ON

SUNDAYS

What do they fear more than having a demon baby with no daddy to help raise him/her

I think it's decent, has potential; plus it's not like o haven't read shittier series

raven seems very sweaty in this comic

7 pages. It took you 7 pages before being creepy Wolfman.

Raven and her quest for a normal life is not a direction I'm happy with, I see it as a waste of her character.

>thoughts?
It's exactly the same as her first emo series but with better art.

Eh, I didn't feel it was a waste of my time reading this issue
Variety is key I guess.

Very much written by a dude pushing 70, but not as bad as I thought. Almost kind of comfy, I hope they don't ruin it by making her family a bunch of secret cultists or rapists or some played out shit.

Calling it the band members are her brothers in human form.

If I were Alice I'd be mad my sister ran off, never mentioned me to her daughter, and still is AWOL. She's too nice. I expect we're going to find her crying and alone one of these issues or something.

Nowhere near as bad as expected. Art was pretty nice and had plenty of character to the expressions, but there was still shades of "HELLO FELLOW KIDS" from Wolfman who is too fucking old to be writing 17 year olds. If the art stays good I'd read more.

She kind of deserves a happy life

Five bucks they pull a black Rx and they are killed by the final issue

The art looks like shit.

Is the boy next to Raven wearing a t-shirt with Morpheus on it?

Oh shit he is.

She can have a happy abnormal life.

That band was in the Pfeifer run of TT, I forget what their deal ended up being.

Anyone else got a boner

Hypercrisis

Or just good taste.

I agree but a happy life doesn't necessarily mean move to the 'burbs and enroll in high school.

Isn't this basically borderline witness protection?

Raven makes a beautiful face there.

An illusion that lasts for twenty one years.
More if those babies are some failures at life.
Even more if true demon blood runs through them.

>"Oh yes, people want to talk."

You'd think she'd have learned that from her time with the Titans.

Yes

It is one of my fetishes

The art's nice. The writing, not so much. Mediocre, hasn't grabbed me at all.

That's another thing that bother me about this and the first emo series: why are you leaving your friends behind?

>Its auctualy genius writing
Shillgga plz
>It's exactly the same as her first emo series
this.
I like the artist. he's good at drawing teenagers that look like teenagers. Not particularly fashionable teenagers, but better than most comics.
You know, if some new pale ass weirdo girl showed up at my school collapsing in the hallway and puking in a hallway first thing and then later in the day people around her started being hospitalized, I'm fairly certain the entire school would be in a panic and all the kids would assume she has demon ebola aids and would shun the fuck out of her. Parents would pull their kids. authorities would be alerted.
Flyover normies like these scare way too easily.
The rest of this series would be the entire town being leery as fuck around Raven and being absolutes shits to her.

Basically Steven King's Carrie all over again.
These kids are way too chill about this and it ruins the story. Conflict is the first rule to good storytelling and this "genius" writer completely avoided so that he could focus on all of this who-gives-a-fuck right here but HEY, at least there was no DDR dance-off this time! (at least not on panel...)

Not bad first issue. I will stuck to see where this will go.

>Flyover normies
Shut up speed reader.

>I like the artist. he's good at drawing teenagers that look like teenagers.

This is indeed a rare feat. Rae Rae actually looks her age rather than the generic adult body type cape artists usually use as a one size fits all solution.

kek

>TFW surrounded by normies so you can't REEEEEEE out loud

White Christian family?
Father is definitely a pedophile

Woah Velma.

that nigga looks straight out of BLAME!
cool demon designs

I'm not sure which one I like better, Flamehead McSwordsman or Giant Pale Cyclops.

The set is kind of funny. I like the scary daughter of satan living with a white christian family thing but the writing is pretty rough and I don't care for another dc woman being turned into a shit teen babby

I don't understand why the entire Teen Titans and the entire Justice League and as many magic people they can collect aren't monitoring her for moment shit like this
happens. Batman and Cyborg should have a million cameras on her.

Wolfman seems to be writing her a little better than usual...let's see where this story goes.

If this is 'a little better' I'd hate to read his worst.

It's not bad. I actually enjoyed some parts.

It's clear it could make a better first impression, but it does have potential. Pic unrelated.

yup

a rapist

I'm going to need context for this.

It's actually a LOT better. She's not mind controlling boys into liking her or trying to rebirth herself by demon raping anyone.

>And then he made a self-insert who's a teacher at Raven's school
Just shoot me now.

So why isn't a single member of the Teen Titans or Justice League or literally any other group keeping an eye on her and helping her out?

It's not like having characters yearning for a quiet life would make for a necessarily bad direction.

it feels clunky

Wow, what a totally natural and not at all forced reference. You only needed to change a few key words in order to tenuously relate this to Jojo. This was definitely relevant to the thread.

nude butt

This comic has some quality artwork

Ah, so you're the person they've been talking about on /qa/.

I'd still hit it.

I would too user

Then be we comrades with patrician taste, or enemies vying for the same treasure?

Only time will tell.

>She's not mind-controlling boy into liking her.
Not yet at least.

Occasionally Wolfman would have Raven's demonic side take over in the 1980s and when that happened her teammates would get physically, mentally and emotionally raped by her.

Even when Raven was not embracing her dark side , Wolfman always wrote her as an emotionless weirdo who could not understand emotions.

As mentioned in this thread Wolfman had some very sketchy ideas that he put into his comics.

>X-titles and New Teen Titans were the biggest Marvel and DC books in the 1980s
>Both were written by men who injected their horrible fetishes into everything
Coincidence?

Knowing Wolfman, it's only a matter of time,

Now that the storytime is over, can we turn this into a general Raven thread?

>Allison Borges
>he

>Raven thread?
Raven thread.

Are you actually presuming it's gender?

>why are you leaving your friends behind?
Literally stated on the first page:

Liked it enough that I'll read the next issue.

>gone our separate ways
I ca shenanigans on the fact that you needs goals and motivations for characters to do that.

Oh boy Raven thread

>goals and motivations
She's learned that she has a family she knew nothing about and wants to meet them and find out what its like to live with family members whose history doesn't include Satan-worship.

...

A thread for Raven and Raven related things.

>Gah?

I don't get it, who is this thread for?

>Wolfman providing fuel for fetishists

Raven and her coven.

THIS is what we need for a Raven story. Her in the DC magic universe. The high school thing is played out to death

I was tempted to post Shad's stuff, but I'm not that horrible.

AKA The league of legs.

...

Thank you user, for protecting us from the Shad
Legs legs legs

...

...

Nah, that makes too much sense. Instead we're gonna have her connect with characters we will never see again then fight generic demons.

>The Teeny Titans app is actually getting an update soon with new figurines like Harley Quinn and Alfred
So hyped. Still running a team of 3 Raven figs though.

Help, Cred Forums. I'm addicted to Raven.

>Teeny Titans
What dis?

They're adding the Teen Titans Go stuff to that new LEGO Skylanders ripoff.

Why would that require help?

Bitch you're in the motherfucking junkies den.

It's an app game, and a surprisingly good one at that. (Made by the same studio that did the Steven Universe RPG app game.)

It's a parody on Skylanders/collectible-figurine games.

Because he needs another fix.

I know, I feel at home here.
I need more Raven, man! I'm shivering from withdrawal symptoms here!

...

Well, let's get you hooked up then!

I'd let Raven drain my soul.

I want a Raven series that goes and does weird demon stuff.

...

...

>implying you had the choice.

While it can be said for everything, but this really would work better as a porn.

Be careful what you wish for user, we sort of had that happen in the 80s and it was shit.

>Raven loves stirring up her coconut cream pies

Choice is for the weak.

Honestly, that makes it even better

I still need to figure out that Source Wall and how to break it.

No, suicide is not the way.

...

Dem legs.

Why you gotta hurt me, man.

...

One of the most cancerous pairings in fiction.

>That last panel
kek

This must be the work of an enemy stand but, where is it?

This. Might be the first thing that made me curious about Raven. I liked her. I liked the setting, and I am curious to keep reading.

Honestly? It's really boring. I always felt like Raven was a character that could never support a stand alone series. She needs a group like the Titans or something close to it. Because if she isn't it just turns into a story like this where she's the crazy magic teen with normal people or if she's older she is just Zatanna with a demon father. I really want to like this because I like Raven but it's just bland. They should have spent like 4 issues with her getting adjusted to normal life while dealing with small magic stuff before just shoving in this Mysterious threat.

She's wearing blue.

HER VERY OWN EMO SERIES

>Muggles
Dropped.

Very disappointed to find its another Batgirl/Ms.Marvel/Hellcat/Squrriel Girl type comic. Raven is so much more than "Teenage girl superhero!". A let down.

People who want to see what Raven's own emo series would be like

>Sandman t-shirt

And yet...

Should have taken more time with her getting acclimated, making us like these characters, etc.

I kinda get a Buffy vibe from it, which has the potential to be cool.

Wait, she was in team with Tim or Dick? I thought with Dick, cause she had some story with Starfire and SF was Dick's girlfriend.

Why is nobody from League looking after her?

It's was okish. DC can put somebody to co-write this with Wolfman. The guy have good ideas but need someone with a modern way of write dialogues and teenagers.

did her femto suit just fly away into the night?

so long as "it's not trigon' stays, I'll keep reading.

Probably off somewhere to rape someone.

qt ravenbutt
qt ravenface
what's not to like

It is my fetish but no

Well yeah she does not need to rebirth herself johns is doing that for her.

I was expecting vision

Seems like a reasonable motivation.

I recognise every one of these characters.
Am i a nerd.

She really should have been in the justice league dark

All the more reason to go back and do it right.
Which is probably why this has a high school setting.

I'm pretty sure Yahweh exists in both DC and Marvel ?

Nah, it's DC. Being white and/or Christian isn't immediately a sign that you're worse that Hitler.

God, she's so chuuni.

Muscular Raven is always Best Raven

Floppy newfag here, good timing with this restart. I'll probably start buying it since I've never really read a Raven comic before.

She only had one solo miniseries before.

Be lucky she wasn't, JLD was trash.

As the Presence/One-Above-All, yes. DC's always been more explicit about it, though.

I don't see it

Oh that's right, I remember seeing that mentioned before. All the better.

bump

>"You're a waifu, Raven!"

>Raven outclassing every wizard at Hogwarts
It's embarrassing that I find that image cool.

dam madison is all about that black dick, and poor milquetoast pencil dick daddy is soooo jelly

I enjoyed the art. Not very impressed with the story, the writing, or the direction.

Raven living with her Jesus-y Aunt's family has the potential to be amusing, and maybe even tell a few good stories, but I don't see anything satisfying coming from it staying too long. Hopefully they die after a while or Raven goes off or something.

The high-school story line has literally nothing going for it. Still, at the moment it's not actively bad enough for it to drive me away, especially cuz Raven.

tim was on the new52 titans team at one point

dick was of course on the 80s team, but nobody in current continuity remembered that until the events of Titans Hunt

Best part of book.

I would read this.

Writing is pretty dull and cringey to be honest, it seems determined to slap every emo/goth cliche in the face twice over. It also plays up the stranger in a strange land vibe up to the point where its hokey as fuck. Raven's new family is strange to her, high school is strange, conversation is strange (really?), okay we get it, Raven is in unusual surroundings and feels out of place, you can stop beating the shit out of that dead horse anytime now.

Plus it relies way too heavily on Raven constantly explaining things to the audience. The steady train of wordy exposition from MC to us is usually the sign of a weak writer to me, and it drags down the story and makes it boring. Instead of constantly having Raven explain the story to me, how about you SHOW the story to me.

As it is I tried this issue out because Raven interests me but the writing is a slog and its leaving me struggling to care. One of the weaker new titles from DC for sure.

It wasn't that bad just a bit meh.

Did the wizard shazam remember the flashpoint i know he remembered the first crisis.

So those of you who did not like it can you all agree it is at least better then her emo series.

>Raven and Amethyst
hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng I don't know the other two.

Zatanna and Mary Marvel you twit.

It actively ruined magic.

We're talking about that awful shit with Pandora, Question etc. right?

>no proper Gemworld cartoon

And how the source of all amgoc was a broken motherbox
And how it kill of Tim hunter
And how it had Zatnna being nothing more than Constantine's girlfriend

>"OMG major fail"
I think I almost had a stroke

That would explain your dialogue, Wolfman.

>And how the source of all amgoc was a broken motherbox
It was never explicity stated the books of magic were the source of all magic just that that was the most common theory (and frankly im glad there not a single source for magic is stupid)
Also i dont remember it being a broken motherbox but i will take your word on that
>And how it kill of Tim hunter
This one i cant really comment on as i have not read books of magic past the first mini yet but its comics he will be back
>And how it had Zatnna being nothing more than Constantine's girlfriend
Ok yeah that was pretty horrible (as well as john in general really)

That said it was my first dc magic book (in fact one of the first books i read when i got into comics after i got caught up on nu52 justice league) so maybe if i went back and reread it i would hate it a lot more.
#18 was still the best single issue of the new 52

How high do you guys think the chance is that we will one day get an actually good Raven comic?

This could turn out good.

Well, depends on whether Wolfman quits/dies soon.

Part of me'd want to write a Raven fic but I don't think I could get her right.

Was that girl at the end who went into the warehouse the girl that attacked her or was she just one of people she met at school?

I think it was the same one, this issue is a bit too vague about certain things.

As i understand it, something stole their body'es and use them to fuck with Raven. It summon Ugo driver to take him next.

Yeah thats probably the issues biggest problem.

Follow up question, who would you want to write this Raven comic? Who could do her justice?

Hey, anybody remember those insane threads a while back where some girl was doing Raven impersonations on vocaroo?

Honestly her stuff was pretty good but after a while I had to leave because the orbital autism threatened to make me die of embarrassment.

I just realized when I wrote "a while back" I meant something on the order of two years ago, if not longer.

I'm not sure who can do 'dark magic girl going through puberty' the best.

Part of me is tempted to just yell out Dini or Morrison. Or even Gaiman. If Neil could write Raven the same way he wrote the Endless sisters it'd be interesting at the very least.

>Or even Gaiman.
Based off my sole Gaiman reading experience (American Gods), I would support that.

Maybe we can get a Raven/Supergirl highschool crossover?

American Gods was such a disappointment when I got around to reading it
>everytime a story involves new, modern gods for the modern age people go 'lol, ripping of Gaiman?'
>the new gods in his book are only even in a couple scenes, the only one who actually does anything was a fake, and the whole book is just about Odin and Loki

I can recommend his Sandman series. Death is a great read as well.
Doesn't even sound that bad, although I'm not a fan of the high school setting since it's been done a lot already.

This sounds interesting. Any kind anons who saved this?

I liked the exploration of the various old gods though (and The Land), and the overall meandering course that the story took through middle/rural America was quite atmospheric.

Yes Sandman comes to mind as something I should read periodically...

Indeed, I hope so too, but I doubt it.

kek.

The page before. to the right of raven. Morpheus.

Possible spoiler the band is a tribute to raven. Their music is a spell that is based raven's style and personality and struggle. At least that's how i remember it.

what is this? a 90s movie?

>Flyover Normies
You know, you would know where the story is set if you weren't a speedreading faggot.
>San Francisco

>Inferior flash

I'll read #2. I'm not that into dc only read titans but I'll add raven to the rotat

Why can't writers ever understand that using made-up or outdated lingo and slang with teens never works? Like, just don't even try -- just have them talk like normal people but with less vocabulary and more unrefined language. That's all you need. Never has anyone ever watched a cartoon or read a comic book, seen the stupid fake slang the writers think anyone under 21 ever uses, and thinks "Yeah, that sounds completely natural and not groan-inducing!"

I hated it when I was 10 and I hate it just as much now when I'm 30.

But user, how else would they connect with the youngsters?

If this series gets me Raven in Church clothes that would be greeaaaaaaat.

So they're cultists, right? Or they'll be killed by Trigon or something.

"I had fun once and it was awful"

>Raven just impregnated 3 girls with an invisible dick

My kind of series!

I liked IN SPITE of all criticism flung on this thread.
After trying Squirrel Girl and Hellcat this comic made me smile and curious about the main conflict even when it was surrounded by cliche. Maybe I was starving for a Raven comic all along?

Hellcat and SG comics are not in the same category of the first three because the first three shit actually happens.

>After trying Squirrel Girl and Hellcat
Do you hate yourself?

>Final panels are Ravan tucking away a little pocket bible she got from her aunt in her robes

Fund it

Okay, who are those guys? Hellspont, a Cenobite by Jae Lee and an Eldrazi Scion?

>"Last Millenium" -- That.

The fuck does that mean?

Godhand meeting.

On the pages before that there's two kids that go "Really? Goth?" "So last century." "So last millennium."

>TFW

Looks dope

>mfw There will never be a Raven - Serenity comic

Garbage pacing, but I feel that way about most comic books.

I hate her pants. Le ripped pants meme should have stayed with SpongeBob.

Funny thing is, while I disliked the comic at first. The more I hang around in this thread the more I want to read the next issue.

>yfw Raven defeats Trigon with the power of Christ

>EAT THE FLESH OF CHRIST, BEAST BOY!
>I am really uncomfortable with this new phase of yours...

>Embarcadero
What?

it means pier in spanish, though the real question is why spout spanish out of nowhere in the first place.

by the way, why are raven's speech bubbles kind of squiggly? does she have a weirdly echoing voice ala Injustice Raven, or is it just shorthand for her having an unusual accent

when did they say they were making a raven book?

Maybe both?

All I know is that no one has ever commented on her voice so

I think it's supposed to sound like her Tara Strong voice, the low-pitched tired-of-everything Goth voice.

CAUSE I'M IN TOO DEEP

That's what I said, but she wouldn't let me pull out.

>my mom...and her boyfriend

What did she mean by that?

Wolfman's a shitty writer, but I think she meant to say she lives with her mom and her boyfriend.

Her father committed suicide.

Yeah, I assume she's just speaking under her breath.

Can't Raven go an entire run without impregnating something?

And it's canon.

Well, what's the point of that now? They are separated and Raven lost all social skills now for some reason.

Hopefully not.

It's pretty fun to learn new words and try them out in conversation with friends, user

Well, Raven is in DCalifornia, so it's not surprising that a local landmark would be called Embarcadero.

Wait, Tim died?

Oh, and I forgot it's specifically San Francisco, so presumably they're talking about the Embarcadero Center.

aaaaaa the challengers of the unknown are back!

bump

>Dinner prayer
>casual conversation with God

Protestshits everyone.

Here's the proper prayer.

>Bless us Oh Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

I remember those.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

>it's never happening again

fug

There, there. At least we weren't as bad as /lit/.

We've been pretty bad.

To raven and jinx in particular.

Well they're 2D so that's one thing.

I anticipate deriving much use from this reaction in the future.

I just finished it, and quite enjoyed it as a first issue. The art was good.

The ending left me somewhat confused. Especially the layout of the last three panels on , which gave the impression of time/action moving in reverse.

Let's be optimistic about this one. It is her first proper solo run after all.

How much longer until people who watched TT as kids are writing real comics?

>TT cartoon fans
>Good writing
Oh fuck no.

Show was mediocre, but it has the only competently written Raven. Her comics are shit.

Oh, well yeah. I liked that Raven too.

I just thought you meant the show as a whole, and let's just say I don't weep for the loss of Robin's angsty behaviour or Slade the pedo.

I thought the Teen Niggers were a little past college age

I just meant that, the people writing her for the last decade or whatever seem to only have a surface level understanding of what made the cartoon character work. Most likely because they didn't actually watch the cartoon and just had a brief run down on her character to pair up with her classic iteration.
Someone who watched the show as a child would probably have some better understanding of the dynamics that made her a good character now as an adult.
You see it a lot with comics, writers always want to write about the characters they liked from their youths.
