JSA Storytime: Quasar

Good evening owls of Cred Forums,

Time for more Gru!

so what was good today

Who's the Aquarian, and why does he look like Jesus?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wundarr_the_Aquarian

he's definitely a dirty hippie

Green Lanterns was fun. I didn't read much else though because I had to catch up on last week's books before they left the archive here since expanding each image manually is a pain.

SBP/Gwenpool OTP

Humphries made a woman tasting the protagonists' cookies surprisingly tense. More so than the other "big" thing to come out today.

The salt has been flowing on Twitter about the DC Writers Workshop mostly picking experienced writers from other fields

...

Not Civil War II

Don't tell me, people are then praising Marvel for hiring webcomic writers in comparison?

I mean they're not wrong, but at the same time we kind of knew that was the case with the solicited issues. Why the blow up now?

hee, Staten

A seventh grade student of mine came into school today with a pile of his dad's old comics including a bunch of issues of Conway's Firestorm.

And then he started talking to me about how he was learning about nuckear proliferation fears during the Cold War from plotlines in that run.

Weird the things kids pick up on.

>mostly picking experienced writers from other fields

Oh the horror?

Not sure, but apparently it's just not doing enough for diversity.

the website was pretty open about "shit has to be published, although self-pub counts" and "looking for professional writers who wanna do comics"

wow

also, pros saying on twitter "bitching about this just makes you look unprofessional and companies read your social media" is GATEKEEPING

He's reading Jurgen's original Booster Gold work too. I wish I had more issues of Superbuddies Justice League to give to him to read, this kid is going places.

...

also FUCK YOU TOM KING

:(

Hello Storyteller.

Trinity was alright. Slice of life stuff mostly.

Raven solo was just plain dull.

Haha I hope people saying that are pretty young cause staying professional and not bitching about the place you're trying to get hired at is like Getting a Job 101

Anyway getting rejected in favor of people with more published works or who've already written books/fiction just seems likely
Lee posted like 5 rejection letters from marvel and dc on instagram and twitter a couple weeks ago

sorry, went outside to pet random cat--friendly, and clearly not a stray because he hasn't missed any meals

there seems to have been a lot of misunderstanding about what the class was looking for.

...

Well yeah, employers should gatekeep. GIving jobs to just anyone results in bad products.

Has there ever been a solid argument that involved Gatekeeping?

>>Well yeah, employers should gatekeep.

Shitlord.

...

Just seen: why isn't DC recruiting webcomic creators for classes like this

Called it!

CW2 was really really bad.
Like, really bad.
All the excuses/arguments/loyalties were so paper thin and it was more like people just quipped back and forth instead of actually talking

and miles' fucking venom blast again

>everyone wants a piece of Wendell

They seem to be more interested in novelists, and the point of the class might be in large part "So you can write a plot, here's how to do it in 20 pages, continuity, monthly"

Because a lot of webcomic creators are annoying, let's be real.

GWW has said that monthly comics is the hardest thing she's ever written

Also seen in the wild lately: bitterness that fanart creators often get hired, but fanfic writers never get hired based on their fannish creations

I don't get the fucking love for webcomic creators. Yea yea, webcomics are a platform for truly indie blahblahblah, but so many webcomics are shining beacons of mediocrity, and their creators notorious for piss poor worth ethics. The few who are capable of advancing will do so in due time. Leave the rest behind.

Imagine Mediocre White Diaz on an ongoing.

To be fair, I'm a little bit curious about the hockey slash webcomic that just quickly hit over $100k in a Kickstarter

we don't mention H*mest*ck

Ah Quasar, my fave Cosmic Marvel hero(tied with Beta Ray).

And the Quantum Bands are the best GL styled weapon.

Beta Ray Bill is awesome.

And now, the most horrifying thing you'll ever imagine. I'll spoil it for those of you of weak constitution.

Power Girl by Aaron Diaz

... hockey slash?

Ah
Yeah I've seen some of that

I can see why they'd be bitter
Though desu inoffensive, okay, or good writers who can keep a schedule is like a dime a dozen but an artist who isn't outright shit and can keep a schedule? Little more difficult, especially since drawing 22 pages a month can be taxing.

GRU, THIS ISN'T EVEN SUBTLE

...

Oh bendis

Also, sometimes fanartists are doing sequentials already, so you can see "ooh chops here beyond pinups". But fanfic writing, there's a huge leap in craft from prose short story to proper script.

SOMEBODY's been reading too much LoSH.

SCIENCE!

WTFF

They have been edging closer and closer.

Bruce Wayne, son of industrialist and philanthropist Thomas Wayne, whose parents were randomly killed by criminals, internalises the anger and pain, develops wonderful toys and becomes the crimefighter Batman.

Whereas Tony Stark, son of industrialist and philanthropist Howard Stark, whose parents were randomly killed in a car crash, later revealed to be criminals, externalises the anger and pain, develops wonderful toys and becomes the crimefighter Iron Man.

That was until Kieron Gillen changed the plot as Tony Stark discovered that he was adopted.

Recently writer Brian Bendis has been delving into that, revealing his mother as a ex-popstar-turned-record producer in London who used to be a SHIELD Agent – as did his father.

His mother, still alive. And his father?

Today’s International Iron Man #7 reveals him to be a double agent working for Hydra.

>Today’s International Iron Man #7 reveals him to be a double agent working for Hydra.
of course he is

>Dakkamite
Oh come on now.

To be fair, you can never read too much LOSH.

*makes wanking motions*

soooooo bad

Science! With! Quasar!

I don't have the crossover, sorry

Acts of Vengeance tie-ins tended to be pretty standalone, if memory serves. Although I haven't read this one.

god fucking damn it marvel.

Marvel has taken the HYDRA meme way too far. Literally everything is HYDRA related now. Soon enough we're gonna find out that fucking Galactus is a HYDRA agent somehow.

...

Seven to Eternity is a tradewait.

but muh mcu

>Hydra were actually the first ones to make contact with Silver Surfer and Galactus

I have an even worse one. Aaron Diaz writes Misty Knight's first solo

At least its still stunning to look at.

I think it's called Check Please, unless OP meant a different one

that was an unexpected delight in a book I'm not reading

yes, that's the one. I know nothing about it.

Heeey, Duggan's been using Stingray in Deadpool

NOWer! Betting Pool. First off--all the Mercs for Money spinoffs, how many issues does each get?

Ummm, winner overall gets an SoP, I promise, this time.

Hey Storyteller.

It's a thread about your favorite character. :^)

>Guest Starring The Aquarian

No, Mark, you're supposed to hype characters people WANT TO SEE. Not just whoever you decided to use.

that's Comrade's screencap, lol

>Panel 3

Oh, so that's why he goes full hair metal in like 3 years.

hey, is the Cred Forumsdger around? or anyone who was reading DC in the 70s/early 80s?

>The Raven shit was so horrible, she fucked with Wally and Dick so bad and it was supposed to be okay. Even Starfire sympathized and literally tried to invite her into a threesome after Raven was basically trying to rape Dick. And the Terra thing is definitely one of the most horrific things of all I agree. The way Slade just went into full "Cool Antihero" territory after all of that is hilarious. I didn't even understand his reasoning about how it was okay that he fucked Terra, like, she had emotional issues and psychological issues and was obviously violent so that meant she in no way could be exploited and also means it's okay to fuck her at 15? Ok.

>I'd love for actual IC reactions to a creepy professor dating Donna who is barely legal and convincing her to marry him only months into dating and be a stepparent. And the constant sexual innuendos and the fact that he keeps raising awareness about his age around her and her friends, always calling himself an old man. I'd love for someone to just be like you're a fucking creep no one invited you and end a party in awkward silence.

>I also love how Terry makes a note to always tell Donna that he's checking out other girls but that she should be grateful that he's such a good guy and that he'll only look and not touch. It's just hilarious looking back on it that this was supposed to be romantic rather than pathetic and sad.

i like this person, took the words right from my head
also ntt aged like milk desu

Wolfman brought back for convergence ntt

...

...

>but so many webcomics are shining beacons of mediocrity, and their creators notorious for piss poor worth ethics.
And this is different from the big two how?

Wendell confirmed for USAVengers Wisconsin?

Or is it going to be the GLA in some way?

that's a bit of whiplash here, son

did y'all see Lemire's blogpost about how he works? He's getting SO much work because he's clearly incredibly organized and has no life, he's ahead and he's completely reliable.

Smart kid.
You should tell him to read Captain Atom. Or Squad. And definitely Legion.

...

I'd like to point out that the homework incident is especially bullshit due to a characteristic many people tend to forget about Donna.

She's an Amazon. Being subservient to any man, even one you love, is just bullshit for a woman of Paradise. Just saying.

I am completely enjoying Daddy Vaughn and Eon's relationship.

I've seen a LOT of griping about the announced writers, and a lot of griping about "muh gatekeeping", "muh webcomics", "muh this said "NEW TALENT" so why are they all established writers!"

at least two of them are black guys, I surprisingly haven't seen anybody happy about that

It's delightfully weird

This is amusing me because IDIC is an old Trek thing, "infinite diversity in infinite combinations"

...this is Gru, that's on purpose

Quasar is the original Pick Up Artist.

Yeah, most people are missing this bit

>Being subservient to any man, even one you love, is just bullshit for a woman of Paradise. Just saying.

What about loving submission?

...

...

Were those there originally or were they added later?

I wouldn't be too surprised if they were getting a lot of non-pro submissions

I'm seething because the editor for the current Punisher ongoing doesn't know about Jo Duffy.

Mad about it to post about it here, not mad enough to write to him about it. I hope/assume other people will.

I'm not sure, but I remember looking at the submissions guidelines and noting that they say "PUBLISHED WORK", even self-pub, but they're clearly looking for a portfolio. It's like going for a Master's, not a Bachelor's.

is he on twitter?

>I'm seething because the editor for the current Punisher ongoing doesn't know about Jo Duffy.
whaaa

who's the Punisher editor?

Yeah, jakegthomas

Loving submission does not mean being a loved one's servant. It's also a principle that goes both ways, so either way, the homework thing is bullshit.

What does Jo Duffy have to do with the Punisher?

LOL

twitter.com/jakegthomas

Let him have it, owls!

She co-wrote the Circle of Blood mini with Steve Grant that revitalized him in the 80s and wrote the Assassin's Guild OGN.

...

truly I hate Marvel

But that's only true now.
There's plenty of well known comic book writers that clearly came in via fan writing... decades ago.

Biggest name there is also the biggest man- Jim Shooter. Who sent in fanfic as spec scripts and ended up Mort Weisinger's butt boy.

You should've started when CW2 was announced and leaked

Really? I only know her as the writer of the best Power Man & Iron Fist run.
It may have been the longest too.

Seven To Eternity gave me Dark Tower vibes.

Yeah, it's bitching about the now, because fan culture is wonderful and amazing etc.

I've hated Marvel for about 6 years now.

So who has the better saving throw, Wendell or Karla?

Well Karla WON with her bluffs, so her. She's loaded the dice to give her natural 20s every time.

user please.
Misty isn't nearly Asian enough for Diaz.

when is Karla going to be in a comic I can read, again

uhoh, remember what the bands do to the aggressive?

I can't think of any other women with cybernetic implants.

Doom Patrol, the launch title from Gerard Way‘s Young Animal imprint by Way and Nick Derington from DC Comics has sold through its first issue from Diamond Comic Distributors. And so, naturally it’s going to a second printing, on sale on October 19th.

As is Seven To Eternity #1 by Rick Remender, Jerome Opena and Matt Hollingsworth which launched from Image today. The second print and #2 will be published on October 26th.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

>Diaz yellowwashes her

Wendell really is so nice, "Mr. Creel"

>all the Mercs for Money spinoffs, how many issues does each get?

Foolkiller- 5-6.
Solo- 8
Slapstick - beyond all reason, 14 and a new book on the next annual relaunch fest.

>when is Karla going to be in a comic I can read, again
Careful what you wish for. Recall that writers often tend to struggle with her character.

So is he supposed to look kinda like Eisner.

The trade paperback for Kill 6 Billion Demons also sold out of it's first printing

hence the "that I can read", because current Bolts isn't fucking it

Optimist!

That's the joke.

i really hope YA books do well

>It's like going for a Master's, not a Bachelor's
A Master's degree is gatekeeping.

God I love the Absorbing Man, his power set gives an explanation for him to always be just as strong as the story needs him to be

Also Crusher Creel is a 10/10 name

d'awww

UNLIMITED COSMIC POWER

Cool. They got me with the gimmick cover, I bought 2 of them so I could keep the sticker on one forever.

Watching people be as confused/mad that there's often a Venom book is as much fun as watching the people mad about Mr. Stroke

It was kinda clever.

>hence the "that I can read", because current Bolts isn't fucking it
Is it even worth bitching about how dull and bland Zubbolts is anymore?

Nothing is happening. There's no character development, no interpersonal drama, not even any decent action. This is a book of fucking nothing. NOTHING.

If this book weren't when it was from I'd almost assume we'd get a panel eventually of Wendell walking in on the two of them making out.

Wait who is Hydra agent?

Doesn't whatsername, from Runaways, the one with the magic staff, have a cybernetic arm now? I seem to remember some stupidity like that being fallout from Hopeless' Arena.

>the people mad about Mr. Stroke
people who don't understand the value of a silver fox daddy aren't worth listening to

Everyone. Everyone is Hydra.

I think it was a magic arm

Man, I'll never understand the people who whine about Deathstroke having a book. It's not like Wade having a book is the reason yoy srrnt getting the Poison Ivy and Harley team up book.

He's just a white male with guns, he might as well be the Punisher, user

>...this is Gru, that's on purpose
Was there anyone in comics in the 80s who wasn't a dyed in the wool Trekkie?

Howard Stark

What, villains having books or those particular characters?

weren't the Trek movies pretty big in the 80s? I'm not surprised

White male anti-heroes.

I've seen fussing over those particular characters that completely misses the undeniable fact that they have fanbases, they're just very far from being the people that the person doing the bitching knows

Slade and Frank might as well be Jason Todd! Who might as well be a woke feminist!

Comic writers can't do anything right!

...

Oh? Well, nevermind then.

Imagine a picture of Diaz's boner sadly wilting here.

Wait.

No, don't imagine that. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

user, everyone knows female writers were invented in 2002, when Gail Simone was hired to write Deadpool.

It was the first time a woman had ever done it, finally breaking through the glass door gatekeeping women from writing and/or enjoying comics.

D: D: D:

Fuck Marlel.

...

Damn. Venom got owned quick.

...

It's a good thing Gail invented Batgirl!

...

One of you fags can help me out, where did King say somebody from editorial gave him the idea of using Victor when he suggested an OC? I need to shove it in faces of Runawaysfags.

I put the sticker on my notebook at work.

I'd help if I knew, user.
>I need to shove it in faces of Runawaysfags.
You tell 'em what for!

Marvel civilians are such assholes

Superpowers registration act?!? That sounds uncomfortably familar...

impossible

...

>Quasar pointing out the SHRA is a shit idea a decade before Millar comes up with it

we all know what Mark Millar licks

...

>Also Crusher Creel is a 10/10 name

It is truly a top grade Wrestleman name.

I am actually kind of hype about Jessica Jones season 2 doing UCWF even though it's Jessica Jones doing it, because Superpowered Wrestling is a fun idea.

...

>"Don't worry too much, Wendell. He 'dies' basically every other time somebody fights him. Have you ever met Madame Web? Apparently he's going to turn into a whole load of cocaine some day"

he's SO POLITE!

Has there been an Event that got shit on as unanimously as CW2? People did praise Original Sin and Axis for few reasons but this event nobody has said anything good except the art. Not even tie-ins are being praised because they're either doing damage control or not even wasting time to tie in.

>COCAINE?

Would Cybermancer count, maybe?

Karma?

>Yes, I don't understand how people can continue to defend the actual Bendis. It's like he is not even trying anymore. The only redeeming points are that he as really good artists and he can have very stong and very divisive ideas that can sell a lot of #1 issues (Doom as Iron man, Riri as Iron man etc.) but for his writing, there is no coherent plot, and no good writing anymore. It's like he became a parody of himself.

>Carol needs to die or get shelved.
>She's so unlikable in this. Tony Stark was no where close to being this bad in the original civil war.

>Stark's first words to Quill, pretty much summed up the entire event.
>"Why are you even here?"

>As usual, everyone was out of character. Why was Blue Marvel waggling his qualifications in Cage's face? Why was Venom so upset at Miles on behalf of Peter? And the central question of this whole thing - WHY IS EVERYONE SO READY TO FIGHT ONE ANOTHER?

some of these cbr people are alright

Fear Itself?

...

I think it's worth complaining about the disgusting amount of space gay shipping is given in the letter column.

Stucky fans are truly scum.

I don't know, it feels like sites usually give Marvel events a pass but most of them are giving CWII bad to middling reviews

comicbookroundup.com/comic-books/reviews/marvel-comics/civil-war-ii

Retailers reporting that the CWII banner on tie ins is sales poison gives me joy

I want this to be the event that makes Brevoort stop and say "Wait, maybe there IS Event Fatigue", and at the same time unseat Bendis from his high position.

Namedropping IDIC is not a movie fan grade reference.

It's a Peter "I wrote like 56 Star Trek Novels" David kind of reference.

well he probably saw TOS too, I'm just saying

AXIS was stupid, but silly. Unlike Civil War, you could pretend it wasnt meant to be taken seriously, with shit like Kluh.

Well, Death of X, IvX, and Monsters Unleashed are already a thing and they're probably already planning out how their next summer event will go, so maybe after next summer they'll chill out

>the SHRA is a shit idea
Is it really? Or was it merely the execution that was bumfuck retarded?

I read way too much rasc

Hey! It's Peggy Carter! Back when she was 'Murican. And I wanna say by this point Sharon's Aunt, after previously being her sister and then that becoming historically unlikely.

>WHAT A TIME! The Mighty Captain Marvel - Carol needed an adjective on her title, YES! Super excited about her new status quo after Civil WarII! Shes gonna be the worlds most popular, famous talked about hero, getting back to the AFSS. That cover is just marvellous! Wonder how CWII will finish, cant wait for tomorrow's issue!
Probably the only post-KSD Carol fan that's actually happy about CWII

LOLOLOL

Marvel citizens Sucked then and they Suck now.

>SPIDER-MAN IS A GODDAMN MENACE
>SAM WILSON SHOULD GIVE UP THE SHIELD
>Something happens with Steve
>STEVE ROGERS SHOULD RETIRE, THAT OLD SON OF A BITCH
>FUCK THE MUTANTS..........AND THE INHUMANS.
>SO WHAT THIS ALIEN LIKE OUR PLANET & OUR PEOPLE, HE CAN EAT A DICK
>LUKE CAGE CLEANED UP OUR NIEGHBORHOOD. HE STILL AIN'T SHIT

Classic cover trick to boost readership.

>>Carol needs to die or get shelved.

Good, God. This. She's the Poochie of comics right now, it's fucking sad. Her legacy character that's only been around a few years is already more successful than she's ever been. Just give it up already Marvel, fuck.

SHRA is such a conundrum because in a way it can make sense, in a universe with a burgeoning hero population. But not in the MU where superheroes are already an established part of life.

I do want to know if the Shulkie stuff was a hasty rethinking or it it was Always Planned

I thought that was satire at first. I hope it is.

This ounds like satire lol

>Her legacy character that's only been around a few years is already more successful than she's ever been.
a good writer could probably do a nice meta arc about that

of course "good writer" is anathema to Carol

>>LUKE CAGE CLEANED UP OUR NIEGHBORHOOD. HE STILL AIN'T SHIT
Remember that time they actively cheered for Chemistro when Luke fought him? I like Busiek as much as every other Thunderbolts fan, but that "Luke Cage isn't black anymore" premise was dumb.

twitter.com/CaptMarvelNews/with_replies

This guy is really dedicated if it's just satire
>

Guys, she is a huge part of CWII... her new status quo after the war, needs special attention. Thats why zero will come out as a prelude to her #1 in January. Dont see any problem with season relaunches. Its not a reboot. Whenever a new #1 comes out, creative teams change and its easier for new reader to jump in, since the new story will not depend on the previous arc to be understandable for them as well as keeping the same or even better refreshed vibes for the old fans.

Well don't worry. Reed Richards convinces Congress it's a bad idea and it never comes up again...

Shit like this is why I've never been much of a Marvel fan. I guess I just don't see why any of the heroes bother defending the drooling masses of virulent douchebags that make up the population. Frankly, these people are so awful they deserve to get their asses kicked by villains. It's like the privacy invasions in Watch_Dogs, where almost every single one is about terrible people. Like, the conflict is meaningless because everyone is a prick.

>HEY CAGE, YOU REALLY AIN'T BLACK BECAUSE YOU HANG WITH HONKY ASS CRACKER IRON FIST. DESPITE HIM BEING FULLY BROUGHT UP IN ASIAN CULTURE. BUT YEAH FUCK YOU.

Damn that was dumb.

oh dear

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

Continuity clearly means nothing to a company who will create entire miniseries to explain away continuity goofs.

See this part REALLY makes Civil War ass backwards: Reed already went against this shit before, WHY would he be Pro-Reg?!

>CIVIL WAR II #5's 'Sheer Fun Hard To Deny'

>CWII
>fun

What's wrong with these people? Didn't they give Flintstones #3 like a 3/10?

According to Marvel canon, he did the math and found that non-registration led to Armageddon.

BUT ALL THOSE QUIPS user

>not treating people like shit+acting like an actual person=THE APOCALYPSE
Oh honey, you can't just tell us that without giving a panel or something. That sounds like motherfucking gold.

She said projecting while he was firing lasers! Get it???

Ugh, it's JMS F4, but finding it is a pain

scienceofreedrichards.tumblr.com/post/71231842089/invention-425-psychohistory-fantastic-four has it all and it was actually McDuffie.

That's such shit. One of the only guys who might be Pro-Reg would be Stark and that's due to his guilty ass always feeling bad about his weapons/cause of death to innocent people. And even then Tony would have been smart about it, get Cap, Prof. X or Cyclops, Reed and a few other top players to figure this shit out so they don't all look like fools and continue saving the ungrateful ass people from becoming Kree Sex Slaves or something.

i missed everything

Miles was Right

that came up in X-user's threads with Weezie, all these great women writers forgotten

she and misty bonded over metal arms in a-force. they talked about starting a club

Yeah, that was what made me think of her.

Tony and Reed's FUTURIST shit was the funniest thing

>DP7 RIP

>scanner didn't completely disassemble their copy to get us a good image

Worst thing is how the editor and writer are pandering to them. Zub even tags the T-Bolts previews on his tumblr with "stucky".

The book deserves to tank the way it's been going.

>Worst thing is how the editor and writer are pandering to them. Zub even tags the T-Bolts previews on his tumblr with "stucky".

Bucky was a mistake. I can't believe we made it this far, and STILL no Karla hazing Bucky.

People are already bitching about muh Bucky not being on the cover of #8.

Fucking hell, do these people know what the book is titled?

Tbf there are some great webcomics out there. But I think ppl miss that those webcomic authors would not necessarily choose to end their current thing for a DC paycheck.

Of course they are, it's an open contest. But they'll cut everything that doesn't have the professional standard they're looking for.

holy shit green lanterns, humpries killing it.

red dawn isn't the red lanterns. shit brix

Bump

So what is it then? The Soviets? Is Guy gonna have to go Wolverines! on some Cubans?
