The ending for that movie is fucked, but I liked that they went with it. Pretty bold and straightforward.

Anyone know if the Palace from Aladdin is based off of any specific building, or if the city is based upon an actual city?

I always loved the sheer size comparison.

Also a former painting teacher of mine claimed to have worked on the film but I never found him in the credits.

Some of the more Tumblr-esque elements of the show turn me off but I'd keep coming back if only to see some beautiful backgrounds.

Sleeping Beauty is the pinnacle of Disney and, indeed, the pinnacle of the artform. It cleverly worked a mid-century modernist fascination with geometric shapes and form into the medieval forced perspective style it based its background design off of. It's a film that at once looks hundreds of years old and like it's from the future. If there is _any_ animated film that evokes feels of the sublime, surely it's Sleeping Beauty.

I understand it was originally Bagdad, but they changed it to a fictional city for reasons. Not sure the palace is based on anything real tho.
