Jesus Christ how horrifying.

>With these two NSFW pages and a Ch12 preview, that's a wrap for chapter 11!

>Unsounded's been going since July of 2010. Six years! 11 chapters and 940 colour pages to date. Not a bad run!

>But I need a little break - not for my own sake but for the comic's. I want the space again to really wow and surprise you all without the panic of finishing three pages a week reining in my ambition. I also need the time to hammer out more script (though the entire story is outlined I've drawn through most of the script I had!) and design new scenery, costumes, creatures, and even write new songs and do animations. I hadn't needed to worry about any of that very much while we were in Ethelmik, but no more treading water now - we're moving out into the world!

>So I have to ask you marvellous readers to be understanding these next few months while I'm working hard for you. I may not be posting, but I'm filling the page buffer with all the wonders I can manage. At the same time, in a few weeks I'll begin posting instalments of an illustrated prose prequel story on Patreon that describes Duane's first year or so undead, and how he coped with his deteriorating body and mind. You can go get in on that, or simply sign up for this mailing list to be informed when the comic's updates resume.

>But maybe you need more? Long time readers may remember that I occasionally like to host a fanworks contests, and I think it's time for another one. Are you a fanfic writer or fanartist? Read all the details here!

>It's been a heckuva ride and a real honour playing your storyteller. I appreciate you guys more than I can say and you deserve the best comic I can deliver. I hope to see you back here when it resumes on January 9th, and we can discover together where the river takes our zombie and our brat.

Murkoph forgot his rape whistle. That can't be great with exposed flesh.

>Minnow is going to be blue and naked
but what of the dick clouds

Toma and Elka are dead. D-E-D.

You take that back you monster!

3 and a half months. Why you torture us so, Ashley?

BIRD OF RAPE

I really do enjoy this comic, but now that this chapter is over I think I'm going to have to re-read the last few chapters because I've been so confused and kinda uninterested since this one started.

It gets her off.

The Bad Touch Bird strikes again!

So Murkpoh is dead( or dead-er) right?
Since IIRC Illganyag's boob milk is poisonous right?
Death by titty.
What a way to go.

Murkoph is the Gundam to Duane's GM.

Murkoph's so not-dead, that instead of killing him someone had to lock him up completely immobile in the fucking Khert. In fact we can pretty safely bet that he's going to be a big player by mid-to-late game, especially since Lady I's implying some connection to Duane's zombification.

Also it's not her milk that's poisonous, it's that the babies were sucking on tiny boob knives.

murkoph being terrified of tittybird while duane preaches sermons at her amuses me greatly.

it also seems to fuel the Ssael theory to me? Tittybird knew ssael, we know she has a fetish for righteous men, ssael cast off his negative mortal aspects which were left to rot in the khert. they somehow escaped into kasslyne and went on a murdering spree, turning into legend before being trapped into the khert again.

alternatively murkoph genuinely is ssael. upon entering the khert he became influenced by its memories. since there are more negative than positive memories flowing in from kasslyne, and the negative ones are likely more intense he slowly turned into a monster.

I'm only more confused by tittybird now.

>she's the only web artist smart enough to plan ahead. Without the massive decompression or pointlessness other webcomics have.

>titty bird
>demon with Irish accent
>body horror
>those implications of interesting past events in the dialogue
Looks like I found a new thing.

Yeah go read it now bro

It's the price of quality. It's always been well worth the wait. Any time I think things might be dropping off a bit, the plot getting kind of stale, the dialog not as interesting, we get pages like pic related or "my cause melted into the khert, Iori. And so did your good man."

The depiction of action and magic could probably still use some touching up, but really the only thing I could think of it is decompress it some more because of how complicated it gets sequence of events-wise. But that would kind of fuck up the pacing too.

It more sounds like whatever happened to him, whomever he was, it was done purposefully and with the intention to make him as he is now. At least how Tittybird is telling it here.

Which makes Murkoph a lot more tragic than previously. Imagine your punishment being turned into a crazy undead cannibal rapist. Probably so you can besmirch your own good name through out history, and, given what you said slightly above that bit about her fetish for righteous men, it was probably a terribly ironic punishment for whatever kind of person he used to be.

Mother of god, it's like a Dark Souls boss battle

DELETE THIS

>Death by titty.
>What a way to go.

It's the way he would have wanted.

>"His friends tried to save him but he bravely fought them off."

>January 9th

I just want to thank you for that last quote, as it made me look up what it was from. It was quite a ride.

I-I kinda wanna try the fanfic shit

I think Tittybirds problem is that she has no experience of mortal life. She doesn't really comprehend humanity the way that a human does, as separate individuals with little in common except the forms they were born as.

She considers the human condition as a singular entity, with whatever humans she has watched wriggle under the constraints of their humanity as mere expressions of that greater thing.

When she talks about 'they' she is simply referring to humanity as a whole. Intention doesn't enter into it, humans shit up the khert because it is their innate nature to do so.

I mean, the first panel sounds very much like someone was doing it specifically to fuck with whomever Murkoph was and Ilganyag. I guess she could be speaking highly metaphorically, but it doesn't gel to me. More intuition than reason, I guess. Cope tends to play pretty fair, at least to my recollection.

>Try writing out the Songs of Ssael

>Speculate on the beginnings of the Black Tongues, Pymary in general, the Excision of Tain

>Tryn puzzle out Murkoph's history

There's a lot of shit to work with here in a speculative sense

Everything she says is highly metaphorical though, I think she genuinely believes that corrupting Murkoph is humanitys collective Fuck You to her. The one expression of humanity that she had found some use or care for, the one human that had overcome his nature and danced with her in the Khert. Taken away from her and turned into Murkoph.

Which leads to a new theory for me, is Duane Tittybirds attempt to create a new Ssael?

>Fanfiction MUST be submitted to [email protected] as a link to a shared Google Docs/Drive document.
now if this isn't proof of Murkoph being the sum of humanity shitting up the Khert with their nonsense i don't know what is

>thingies
kek
Murky got surprisingly meek.

So wait, is Murkoph actually Ssael? Or at least some twisted remnant of the man he used to be? Tittybird acts like her and not-Murkoph used to be lovers, and she betrayed the Twins to fuck Ssael, yes?

Is she giving him a forceful makeover in the last panel?

Force nursing

Murkoph is totally Ssael. And Ssael banged the big titty raven lady.

Oh man, that's such a big gap.

I think Ilganyag might have supported Bastion's creation of Duane because she hopes that one day Bastion would be able to reverse whatever was done to Murkoph, maybe?

Sette is going to be fucking Tirna.

Speaking of the fanfic contest, I was thinking of trying to write Nary's confrontation with Duane, to get him to escort Sette. Does anyone have that comic of Duane in Sharteshane? For research reasons.

>Be wary of amazing chest

Sure, right. Because Duane is an assemblage of what Duane was actually like from the khert, into an undead body.

We know when someone dies their memories, this constituent thoughts and emotions, dissolve into the khert. They don't disappear (at least immediately) but they cease to be held together and unravel.

Timofey the ghost is something like the Timofey as-was, because Bastion painstakingly assembled his constituent parts - or good enough replacements - into a construct that could hold them (I've always wondered what it would be like for Timofey to get a 'ghost' in him, like pymarics can, if that's possible).

Duane is a model along the same lines - maybe all of Duane truly could be captured because of how he was killed. They took his eyes, right? Maybe that's significant in terms of the biology of how someone's khert bits leave their body bits. And this was locked into the body, and in a way they succeeded because daytime Duane is basically Duane +undead trauma, and nighttime Duane is the same as any other plod.

Speaking of which, I think we can assume that if anything is left of plods it's grim shit. If you don't go through this process of recollection and containment you end up with a fiend that wants to eat flesh and can be beaten into work. That could even be a drive to reclaim, right? It *feels* very "Unsounded" if zombies are empty because all their memories and things that made them "them" are lost and they consume the body in an attempt to regain the mind. Rather than just an inexplicable hunger, but given Ashley's gore fetish maybe it is just that.

>(cont)

So if you assume the Ssael myth is true, that he survived in the khert and killed 3 of the gods, maybe they still scattered him and left him with these plod-like destructive drives. So you have Murkoph who has nothing or little of Ssael in him except maybe the hate. Maybe a magnification of Ssael's flaws, because I think from what we know of Ssaelism while Ssael was probably not a murderous cannibal rapist he was probably not the most pro-women's rights guy ever either.

Duane is a Good Ssaelit Man in the biblical (or whatever equivalent sense) so it is logical that he might be used as a subject to try and work out the recover of Ssael. If you can succeed with the recovery of an ardent discipline who lives by the Ssaelit tenets, can you succeed with the recovery of the master?

Maybe just inevitably some process of the body's rot keeps negative emotions in itself, doesn't fully release them to the khert. Maybe that's why Ssaelit believe in the complete destruction of the body.

I don't believe Ssael killed Tirna because Tirna was never in the khert - she was trapped in mortality - and I could honestly see as a theory now.

What do you want to write?

>Tittybird knew ssael

She called him a paper god

That bodes not well for the veracity of Duane's scripture.

Much like there's no proof of a historical Jesus, there's no proof of a historical Ssael

It could also mean that Ssael as he is known is the scripture, not the person. A "paper god" in terms of the church and writings, whereas she knew the real Ssael.

>January 9th

Do something else with your lives people, jeez

Ashley has said point-blank that Ssael was a historical figure. He was a real man at some point and it is well recorded. It's his godliness after he died that's up for debate. Also, Jesus is generally accepted by scholars as historical, but whatever, you can google.

I never bought the Murkoph=Ssael thing because A) Ssael was a gold so had blond hair and green eyes, Murk has dark hair and red eyes. Granted the eyes could have been changed but still, and B) Ssael died an old man. It's a historical fact. I don't see why an Murk would look as young as he does if Ssael was fuck old when he was killed

>there's no proof of a historical Jesus
Yes there is.

I'm not sure about that, since the story of Ssael doesn't really seem to fit with the statement of "seeing gods in yourselves and capturing them on paper."

Also, it sounds like she's talking about a large number of gods besides the number we know, so I don't think she's singling anyone out.

Three month RIP

She called Ssael a paper god a while ago

Those two posts were both by me, but I'm still mulling possibilities

Naked ana when?

>starfish
>titties

C'mon ash, stick with your characters.

>doesn't know about gunnerkrigg court

Brother, he supposedly has 3 months as a padding of comics.

reminds me more of Soul Sacrifice tbhf

Can we please get that third kickstarter now? My two books are so lonely on their shelf.

But gunnerkrigg court is meh

Why does she call them paper gods though, what does she have against paper? Back when it was only Ssael referred to as such it was assumed to be referring to his scriptures, but it seems unlikely all of the gods would be as dogmatic.

Also, if gods dont exist within the setting, then what has she been doing for the last thousands of years. You would think she'd have the entire world worshipping her by now, seeing as she has the benefit of actually existing.

No wonder she's sexually frustrated, humans would rather make up their own gods one after another for millenia than have anything to do with her thorned teats.

>3.5 month hiatus
Fuuuuuuuuuck. Here I was hoping for the usual month long break. Maybe I can catch up on some other comics I've been neglecting in the meantime.

It also has massive decompression. Slowing the pacing of the comic to a glacial pace. An Iceburg moves faster than Gunnerkrigg and more happens.

>Timofey the ghost is something like the Timofey as-was
Bastion flat out says Timofey is entirely artificial. He never lived, he's just an extremely well-made AI basically.

Gunnerkrigg moves so slowly you think it's standing still then all of a sudden major changes happen in 1 or 2 pages. It's really jarring.

>just find out about Unsounded a week ago
>four month hiatus after my first three updates

Tough luck. Normally between-chapter hiatuses are only a month, but this time she has to write more script in addition to generating a page buffer.

Man all this rampant speculation has managed to do the impossible, probably the majority of the fandom actually knows and cares about the Crystal Dragon Jesus of this world. How many series can you say that for?

How could you not?

Every major fantasy novel in the past 50 years, likely several minor ones too.

At least it's not "literal years of real time corresponding to a few weeks of college" in Dumbing of Age

Timofey you're real to meeeeee

So Ssael was a pissmop?

It doesn't really change the point. I have skipped part of the most recent comics though, so I hadn't read that.

It helps that the fandom is small and the details have not come with any great frequency until now.

He was indeed.

Loving that cheese puff hairdo.

I'd argue that probably half of those can be discounted because Jesus is also the main character.

I'm pretty sure that was explicitly mentioned at some point. Ssael was basically the Messiah of the Tainish people.

>Why does she call them paper gods, though?

I remember one of the bonus comics on her site from her RP days had Murkoph ranting because "history is the construction of meaning!". I'm pretty sure he still represents nihilism (actual nihilism, not the meme version) in Unsounded. Tittybird may be referring to the recording of history and similar scholarship here. She specifically refers to gods because in Ye Olde Dayes most of life, including such endeavors, was inextricably entwined with the religion of day. It's no doubt the same in the comic's setting.

Soooo... we've got Murkoph and Duane as clear foils to each other, and Knifetits McCaw as some other perspective. I think we'll learn more about this perspective as the comic goes on.

Duane's theory is she's a Senet Beast which means she's older than the Khert. I've been really curious about what the world was like before the Khert and the Four Gods and what brought all that on.

I think she means they're only gods on paper. Only gods according to their scriptures, not reality and are man-made. It could also mean that their construction is as flimsy as paper and doesn't hold up

If Murkoph was Ssael, then we would expect him to have magic diggin hands wouldnt we?

>"Again and again they see gods in themselves and capture them on paper!"

I think you are very much correct. I'm just not sure the significance ends there. She might wish they would worship her instead of themselves, or there could be something else about the human practices of history and religion that upsets her. I'm saying that Ashley's dwelt on themes like this before, and CawCaw O'Boobstabs' rant here may be a sign of them becoming more prevalent as the comic's story unfolds.

Oh hey it's the painting a had Ashley make!

Is there a pronunciation guide for the names? Also, I don't know why people call Sette's tail a rat tail, it's 100% lion.

Continuing from this, we also have the Blacktongues who all believe very strongly in Progress. I wonder how this ties to Corvid Thornknockerhausen's view of humanity, as they are not only worshipful, but also influenced by her through freaky torc magic.

...

I wonder what percentage of her patronage comes from the 50 or so people on Cred Forums who religiously read her comic.

Just marathoned my way through, loved all of it. Sette really grew on me, the little shit she is. Is the reason she has no nipples/belly button because she's artificially made?

Nobody really know what her deal is. Maybe we'll find out next chapter since we're seeing Nary apparently and if anybody might know it's him.

From Nary's words in flashbacks, she seems to actually be his daughter, or at least he thinks so. But theres no hard and fast data yet.

Ss is always pronounced Z
Sette is pronounced Seh Tea

Everything else is reasonably phonetic english.

Duane's name has a slightly different pronunciation in Tanish, though, Ashley said. So Tainish speaking people and Duane himself would probably pronounce it Du-AHN while everybody else pronounces it normally: Dwayne

Which is nothing important but is a fun fact

Cresce is also pronounced Kreisch I think
it says it here
casualvillain.com/Unsounded/world/index.php/Cresce
but I don't know how to read those particularly well

it seems like whatever Murkoph was, he wasn't human originally given the way she calls him mad and then says that humans are irrational

Also:
>a biting spider at the end of every wrist
seems to imply that she has a similar perspective to the two-toes since Delicieu called humans "spiderpaws". And we definitely know that the two-toes worshipped her as a god

Wow, this thread's still up? I'm glad you guys have enjoyed this chapter! Thanks for being such cool bro's.

>On hiatus until fucking January
>Stopped caring about Paranatural
>Stupid Fucking Cloud needs a month to set up a goddamn computer

a-at least I still have Gunnerkrigg Court, right?

You! You did this to me!

Chapter ends always spur a lot of discussion since it might be a while before we get to have another thread, sort of like how bears are most active right before hibernation.

Hey, man, at least you still have Gunnerkrigg. You could try The Meek, people seem to like that one too.

S as Z is only for tarnish not continental.
Sette isn't an Ald.

Cresce rhymes with Grace.

He said "ss" not singular s. As in, Ssael = Zael

Its double S as Z and that almost never happens in continental anyways, so i didnt think to mention that.

Isn't The Meek deader than dead?

>Is there a pronunciation guide for the names?
Duane = "Do ahn"
Adileir = "Ah dee lee ear"
Sette= " set tea"
Frummaggem= "from a gem"
Alderode = "Al day rod"
Cresce= "Cray shhhh"

regardless Sette's name would not follow tainish pronunciation.

Cool bro's what?

You can hear Ashley say a few names aloud in this old kickstarter: kickstarter.com/projects/502093706/unsounded-comic-volume-2/description

And here's her pronouncing a bunch of the countries, since people are talking about those too: unsoundedcomic.tumblr.com/post/94449659120/so-far-ive-been-wrong-about-the-pronunciations

I didnt say it did. But it is pronounced Seh-tee.

>Duane = "Do ahn"

I reject this reality.

Somehow Ashley sounds exactly like I imagined she would

Y-you too.

>The Meek
I remember a comic by that name but I thought it died ages ago. One I was reading a while back was Stand Still Stay Silent but haven't checked on it in over a year. Also had pretty great art but moved at a glacial pace. Also Kris Straub's comic he did after Starslip ended, think it's called Broodhollow. Was interested for a while but he took too many breaks and couldn't get back into it. I really miss Starslip.

The Meek came back, kind of. Updates once a week, artist puts out more updates for their other series, Mare Internum, instead. Stand Still Stay Silent still gets three updates a week and is super pretty but I'll agree that it feels like the plot doesn't really go anywhere.

Kill Six Billion Demons brosef

Won't there be a break when this latest chapter finishes soon?

Maybe? I don't remember. Breaks tend to be very short with ksbd anyway.

How will I make it to January?

try using drugs

Yeah! It's "Du ahn"

I need more don't do this to me Ashley

Someone refresh me, who the fuck is Tirna and how is she Sette?

How do you not know Tirna man. She's like the coolest cat on the block.

She's one of the Gefendur gods, supposedly having been banished to the mortal world.

I want to titfuck that-
HA HA!!
Never mind.

> Not "Doo ayyn"
Fuck this twisted world.
