AoS Thread

Just watched the season premiere. What did Cred Forums think?

I thought Robbie was hype as fuck

Pretty good. Robbie's skull looks better in motion than I expected. That opening scene mimicking the scene from ANGR #2 was pretty hype. Did a pretty good job of setting up this seasons conflicts.

Solid 7/10.

loved it

I'm honestly looking forward to someone like Simmons flipping their shit trying to figure out how he works scientifically.
Spoiler: they can't.

>First time watching AoS since S1E2. Honestly, I liked it a lot.

>AoS s3.5 and up, s4 premiere became more fun to watch than flash s2 and arrow s4
What the hell happened?
Hell happened.
We in the weirdest timeline.

It's simple. Arrow and Flash kept getting worse as time went on while AoS kept getting better.

I was satified with this episode, can't wait for more not canon AOS stuff.

I hope you liked what you saw of Ghost Rider because those two minutes of flaming skull probably ate up almost all of their budget for the season.

Wow, why are you being such a boring cynic?

Have a Webm

I was gonna say that but it seemed company wars-eque. The writers for Arrow and The Flash keep making the same mistakes, whereas the writers for AoS actually seem to learn and get better.

>be showrunner of arrow
>s3 reviews are coming in
>one complaint is too much focus on felicity
>i know how to solve this!
>add more felicity!

Actually, Agents of Shield have pretty good effects throughout the season. I bet Lash experience will certainly make Ghost Rider a prominent figure of action sequences.

Hell, his signature weapon was teased but wasn't even shown yet.

Honestly, this episode was pretty decent, there's a lot of plotlines going on and feels like a spy thriller.

I still don't like May, I'm sick of Coulson and couldn't care less about the Colombian chick.

I'd say AoS has a habit of starting and ending strong, so let's wait until we're a bit into the season to congratulate them too much.

Good start though

Did anyone else's autism flare up when we started getting into the origin of LMDs? How can they only be created now when Tony mentioned them way back in the first avengers movie?

Hopefully they mention that it's an updated version of an old stark project or something

Pretty sure it was mentioned to be an old S.H.I.E.L.D project.
Why the fuck would we want more "Tony did it" bullshit anyway?

I liked it. I let shitposters get to me and I went in with low expectations, but then I remembered I love this show.

It could have just been Tony talking off the cuff, or like
said it could be something he read from some old SHIELD file.

The term and concept of a LMD already existed, but that doesn't mean one was ever made. Radcliffe is actually trying to make one.

FTL-Drives are common vernacular when it comes to space travel, but we've never come even remotely close to actually making an FTL-Drive. But hey, once we do, we'll already have a name for it. Same general premise.

Or hoverboards and jetpacks for that matter. Everyone knows what a hoverboard or jetpack is, but when the terms were coined and popularized, it'd still be decades before anyone even came close to making something like a partially working model for either.

>the exhaust pipe out of his cheeks
>the exhaling the ash that his nose becomes

Pretty neat. I wonder how many episodes until he gets cursed so he can't transform for a while.

Also, who of the team is gonna get into magic? I was thinking Fitz would be the most receptive, being the bigger nerd and interest in investigating. Maybe Simmons would, but she already has the whole "gone to space" adventure.

What about May? She's always stoic and calm, so it'd be a nice turn for the character. Also that whole anti-chink ghost thing.

Unless they just go ahead and find themselves Druid.

I'm thinking that a few episodes from now Eli is going to take over and it will be up to Daisy to try and stop him.

Meh
Not muh Robbie

>implying magic is real

He's obviously just a talented illusionist.

Honestly the only thing that bothers me is how off Robbie is visually
He doesn't look like himself, the costume is terrible, and the actor doesn't look like him either

>Eli is going to take over
In next week's promo Robbie already said he sold his soul, so I'm guessing they are giving him Johnny's origin under Robbie's circumstances.

Maybe he sold his soul to bring back his brother?

The costume looks fine, I just don't like how he doesn't have a mask.

I'm hoping that that's just a metaphor, him trying to say "Now that I've crossed this line I can't go back."

>Maybe he sold his soul to bring back his brother?
Here's a thought, though might be too complex for SHIELD.

>Robbie is 17, doing well enough in school, loves his brother, mom, and dad.
>One day his entire family is killed in the crossfire of some drug conflict. Cartels in California or something, whatever.
>Robbie gets back and freaks out, devil comes to him and offers him a deal for his soul...but he can only save one of the three.
>Robbie chooses his brother, but since the Devil is a fuckface he makes the brother be paralyzed, only removing the injury that actually killed the kid.
>Robbie is stuck caring for his brother on his own, flunks out of school, takes job as mechanic and drag races with the cars on the side to make extra money.

Then we have the origin play out more or less the same. Hell, you could even have Eli be part of it, say that the Devil used Eli's soul as the catalyst to make the Rider. That way if they want to do the "Ghost Riders are actually angels" plot twist they still can.

Maybe.

Since this is probably the only ghost rider version we're gonna get, I'd hope they gave him some hybrid origin. I like the idea of him having to take care of his brother a lot, so it basically would just choose the best out of both characters, with the exception of the Bike, which would be hard as fuck to animate for a TV-show, with the rider and all.

See this is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe his parents are already dead and that just happens with his brother or something. Just make the "devil" be a dude from another hell-like dimension and never show him, so they can introduce Mephisto in the movies at their leisure.

Eli is a cool thought, but it sort of makes him Dexter.

>Just make the "devil" be a dude from another hell-like dimension and never show him
Well sure I figured it'd be "man in a coat in the shadows" kind of thing.

I have hope that the Dr Stange tie in will refrence the others who have been ghost rider before, and how Robbie doesn't actually possess the spirit of vengeance. Then after Defenders comocs out the next wave of Netflix shows will include Ghost Rider.

Sure. Probably simpler to do, too.

You don't need anything too over the top.

Although Mephisto is a pretty big hitter, so I don't know if they'd ever leave him to the TVshows.

>Dr. Strange tie-in
That's not gonna happen. Not anything more than what happened for Civil War or Thor 2. Schedules just don't work that way even if they were made from the same people.

The themes will probably tie in in a conceptual level, but that should be about it.

You never know user, Wong may give Colson a book that might have information on how to cure May, which may also contain information about the ghost rider. I have hope.

The ghost just doesn't like the Chinese.

I barely remember how the ghost looked, was it a woman? Was she Japanese?

>The themes will probably tie in in a conceptual level, but that should be about it.
They're already "tying in" to mystical or spiritual shit this season, wouldn't be that hard to Thor 2 it up and have them have some problem they have to go to a "specialist" about, one that recognizes what Robbie is.

SOMEONE is going to have to have some insight into him. They can't just have him walking around going "I got these powers from the devil" with no other backstory to them.

It was a woman, and has only effected Asians, read into that what you will

I thought it was a blonde woman.

Yeah, what I meant is that Dr. Strange as a story, or any of its characters, won't cross-over. I doubt they'll go to tibet or someplace like that.

It's obvious that the TV side is waiting on the Movie side to go full on Magic, since that's about all you can do in street level for power creep (well, as opposed to sci-fi and robots and machines). We saw it in Daredevil and starting to see it here, but they still haven't fully opened the gates yet.

>It's the ghost of bad driving.
>Against Ghost rider, who drives a car
Oh shit.

All I wanted was a comic accurate skull and they couldn't do that. I mean he doesn't look terrible but not what I hoped for

Well with Iron Fist we're having hidden cities on other dimensions and dragons and shit. Gotta pull that trigger soon.

Can I just say how disappointed I am that Netflix and SHIELD haven't crossed over? I don't mean storylines spread across both series like DC does but for god's sake is it so hard for Jessica Jones or Matt to make a cameo?

Let's be honest, user. If they tried to do something other than a regular skull it would have looked like shit. At least the fire seems to do the mask patterns on top.

The chin is a bit out of whack, especially since the actor doesn't really have that great a chin, but human chins rarely look too menacing without the muscle layer. They seem to have a bit of a overbite.

>Well with Iron Fist we're having hidden cities on other dimensions and dragons and shit. Gotta pull that trigger soon.
We'll see if we do. Seems like a good S2 to me, if they are budget constrained on the 1st one. They can always just borrow the Marco Polo sets and costumes, though.

>Netflix and SHIELD haven't crossed over?
Netflix doesn't allow it contractually. They want their shows to be contained to their platform or better (the movies if it ever came to it).

I personally don't mind having separated story lines. At least you get a bigger tonal variation and aren't forced to make it all look and feel the same. Exact same thing with things like power levels and personality consistency across different writers and whatnot.

>We'll see if we do. Seems like a good S2 to me, if they are budget constrained on the 1st one.
Yeah I'm not expecting too much other dimension stuff in S1, but the fact that he exists pulls those things into the canon.

I actually enjoy the whole procedural thing with SHIELD and all the red tape. Makes it feel more like the SHIELD from the comics.

nice meme right there, user.

This
The artist took time to distinctly make Robbie very memorable and unlike Johnny Blaze, which accentuated the fact that he's not trying to be a ghost rider successor or anything. His skull is watered down to a normal skull, and the actor doesn't look young, let alone didn't even try to get Reyes' haircut.

I'm going to enjoy Simmons having aneurysms trying to explain that which cannot be explained so goddamn much.

Didn't someone on the crew say that they're putting elements of Blaze and Ketch into Robbie?

I w i s h t h e y ha v e n ' t

so when he decided to spare daisy, was that very out of character for him?

isn't he pretty frank tier about no forgiveness?

Don't be mean to murder Mom

No one will get into magic, Fitz and Simms will try to science the ghost, since it obviously can be scienced judging from its container.

They will try and science Ghost Rider and fail, then small Doctor Strange nod

Nah, he saw she wasn't a bad person. Now, Frank would have shot her.

He doesn't think she needs killing. SHE's the one with the guilt complex. I expect them to address this next episode.

after roughly 3 seasons now I can't believe I still find myself saying "boy this episode moved really fast"

lots of interesting conflicts set up for later in the season and ghost rider was pretty great

So I don't know too much about Ghost Rider. Is he like a demon that kills evil people, or is he possesed by some kind of angel or force of good?

Kind of yes to all of the above.
The first Ghost Rider was a pseudo-rider bound to the spirit of a Demon called Zarathos and made into the devil's bounty hunter, seeking out evil to punish.
Then there's the actual Ghost Rider curse that makes people into the "Spirit of Vengeance".

>"boy this episode moved really fast"
Yeah, for all the bitching I do about this and that niggle (I'm sure the split between Marvel TV with Loeb still reporting to jewmutter and Marvel Studios with Feige reporting directly to Das Mouse has a lot to do with this: but I continue to not understand why no one wears a uniform even on base/why they continue to not use a Helecarrior; and watching this back to back with shows like Blacklist and Blindspot via DVR I still think the cinematography (outside of the VFX shots, which keep getting better and better) looks annoyingly cheap and un- cinematic) I'm not getting bored/irritated and skipping ahead like I do with the DC CW shows whenever they go into Full Soap Mode with all the relationshit.

Sorta reminds me of Season 1 Arrow when they'd keep two 25 min shows ping-ponging back and forth with the flashbacks and you didn't really have time to think too hard about what was happening.

SHIELD's cinematography varies quite a bit.

You can tell the temp sets are cheap, but the main ones aren't that bad. That episode with the future visions was pretty well shot, and so was this one.

Going literally darker lets them hide a lot, and makes for better CGI blending.

The entire last season was pretty much about relationships, actually, but it didn't feel a lot like that because they keep the ball rolling. But every conflict was based around a relationship. - Daisy/Lincoln, Ward/Daisy, May/Lash, Coulson/Couldaughter, Fitz/Simmons.

I am getting annoyed with the Flash because they will only book end the episodes with the hypier parts. outside the first and last 5 minutes nothing different ever happens almost.

>The entire last season was pretty much about relationships
I don't have a problem with relationships; I have a problem with CW style Soap Operas where everyone is "keeping secrets" and obligatory Love Triangles and such.

Like: there's a episode of Flash where Felicity and her new Beau tag along (this is when she was still banging Ray Palmer/The Atom) for a visit from Arrowland and she just sorta causally mentions that she's told him Barry's Secret Identity and he's all "'s'cool, 's'cool" like you just hand that shit out like Halloween Candy or some shit ... then someone mentions Iris and he loses his shit "ZOMG WE CAN'T TELL IRIS WE HAVE TO KEEP HER SAFE WTFLGBTBBQ!!?!"

>outside the first and last 5 minutes nothing different ever happens almost
That and the fact that even when something DOES happen it's largely something you've already seen ("I have to run faster!" RUN, BARRY, RUN!!)

Fairly strong episode. Jemma is still the worst.

Also does anyone have a webm of Daisy when she is getting dressed?

Thats some shit taste there user. Jemma is quirky goodness

Yeah, I'm really interested on what they'll do with that spirit thing in the box that passed by Agent May.

>Hating on Jemma "Gas the non-humans" Simmons

>it's largely something you've already seen
Either that or some spoken reference to some character/even from the comics that makes everyone sperg out.

The live threads are great fun, though

>some spoken reference to some character/even from the comics that makes everyone sperg out
I admit I'm easily amused.

It is amusing, but it's fleeting. The Flash must be the most entertaining capeshow around broadcast TV, but you can't rewatch any episode because of how vacuous it becomes.

I have found SHIELD more compelling, even if it's highs aren't as high as the Flash's. At least it never bogs down too hard anymore.

>everyone is "keeping secrets"
Listen, I hate that shit. They do it in AoS too, but they at least have the excuse of being a secret organization, and even then its not as much. CW soap opera lying and secret keeping is probably the most annoying thing on superhero TV.

0/10, not Johnny not Danny just another fucking spick.

AoS keeps professional secrets.

CW (And Arrow in particular oh my fucking god) it's always non-sense secrets that everyone must be tired of knowing in universe already.

Heh, new clip just in time for the thread.

youtube.com/watch?v=HC162fhv_p8&feature=youtu.be

Daisy being witty was cool.

Man, the guy playing Robbie does not look menacing on pictures, but he does have some strong presence and voice to make up for it.

I liked it. I wonder how much GR we're going to get though. A few episodes or a big arc? Will it be like Frank in S2 Daredevil?

I think the word to put to his is "detached". He doesn't sound passionate at all, so his threats carry more weight.

It seems like he'll be a common presence.

Is he gonna steal the flaming chain from that hellfire dude, or come up with it on his own?2

I like Simmons a lot since she was locked on that planet.

Originally he was a demon that kills bad people but about 10 years ago they said he's actually an angel that kills bad people. Satan just pulled the leg of the original hosts by convincing them the powers they got were from him, when in reality Angels gave these people their powers.

Loved it, seriously can't wait for the next episode

I like that he's out there fighting crime right of the gate.

Comic Robbie took too long to get proactive.

From a point of mythology, the devil makes no sense as an enemy of God, anyway.
Everything is God's creation and he is omniscient, so how could his creation rebel unless he made him for that purpose?
If we read the Bible we don't see a monolithic evil mastermind, but tempters, lures and allegories.
Jesus is being tested, talks to the tempter out in the desert. That's not Catholic demonology's idea of the devil.
The point here is that the devil is a necessary side-effect of claiming God to be good. Because if all those temptations and tribulations came from God, then we would have the Old Testament arbitrary asshole. So they make up all that shit about demons and devils to protect their core claim.
So the devil as an angel of God makes more sense. If he is not so much an evil enemy and more a hitman, the character makes much more sense in existing on Earth.

>mentions eli

happening

If this was a DC or Marvel Netflix I might think the "uncle" bit was an Eli reference, but she just might be saying that to mention any family member.

That's a fine analysis but in the GR stories it's literally a god given power and has nothing to do with the devil at all. Blaze just sold his soul to the devil and his adopted sister or something went to the angels to try to help him. So the Angels were like "sure we'll make him Ghost Rider to keep the devil at bay but Satan still owns his soul when he dies" and the devil was like "shit, I better trick this guy into thinking I gave him those powers."

Nah
The costume looks like a generic ghost rider, Robbie was unique and stood out.
You get it.

I feel like TV Robbie is Robbie in name only

I think one of the things AoS has done to put it above most other shows in my mind is to stop doing the 'secret' bullshit to stretch plots out and create drama

it seems any time there is any secret related, it tends to get resolved in a few episodes now, which is really great

It's literally the same besides the pants.

It's the same thing, just made with a jacket and pants instead of a one piece jumpsuit.
Also a different skull.

No, the tailoring and fit is different, the tv pants are lose fitting jeans instead of the slim fitting leather of the comics, the comics also have boots; the TV show uses canvas shoes.
The skull is also different, so the only thing that's the same is the jacket, and the TV Jacket is tailored like shit,

Dude, calm the hell down.
It's not that big a deal.
Speaking as an actual diagnosed autistic, you need to calm your fucking autism.

His skull was really the only thing that disappointed me.

The haircut was 100% ripped off from a One Direction band member, and he got rid of it anyway like halfway through the run.

pretty good, i havent read ANGR but does Robbie go and hunt down criminals punisher style, or are they just playing him as Johnny

if they played him as Johnny they could have given him a bike

He does, but mostly it is for other motives.
Like he takes out a group of gang bangers because they pick on his brother.

So how long until the new director is revealed to be evil?

I think they're going with the events of the comics already happened. In the episode he says he's been out of school for a while and his brother is in high school.

This is honestly better, since it won't just be a retelling of the comics.

He takes down an entire gang because they killed his boss. Also

his debut run was about him cleaning up his ghetto for the sake of his lil bro. it ends with him making a deal with his spirit to go on a roadtrip and commit unspeakable acts of violence on the absolute worst scum they can find

Kind of a dumb question but between this and Gotham, which show would be the best to start watching?

>complaining about a character having loose fitting instead of slim jeans
>complaining about the shoes they wear

>his costume in his book were just regular clothes and there is STILL bitching about a costume not being accurate enough

Most Ghost Riders (there have been many) are possessed by a powerful demon or angel, and are usually compelled to punish evil.

Robbie borrowed a haunted car, got shot to death by some mercenary whackadoos, and the ghost in the car reanimated his corpse, and brought him back to life after his first time transforming into the Rider. The problem is that this spirit wasn't a demon or an angel or anything as nice, it was an occultist serial-murderer who wants to use Robbie's body to continue torturing and murdering people. Robbie and this killer, Eli, strike an uneasy truce: Robbie will kill for Eli, but only if he can wipe out what he perceives to be the scum of the Earth.

You would think making a mask would be easier? Only have to CG the fire instead of the entire head.

...

See id be ok with this. Keeping the whole dead uncle part would be a weird turn, its about the only thing I didn't like about Robbie's story.

I like Robbie, he isnt the best out of the three but he beats Danny in my book.

That was my first episode of SHIELD and does the Asian chick have telekinesis or some shit? she's hot

Ghost Rider was badass
that is like the coolest thing in all the Marvel tv shows to me
I didn't really like JJ and DD that much
are the first few seasons of SHIELD this cool?

Mid season stinger before the winter break

>but he beats Danny
But Danny is the best

>mfw
This ghost rider is hype

AoS was shit until like the 10 episode, then Winter Soldier happened the the show went from 0 to 100 REALLY FAST
S2 had a great first half and a kinda good second half, and S3 is just really great overall
I'd give it a chance if i were you, Ward is fucking amazing

>That was my first episode of SHIELD and does the Asian chick have telekinesis or some shit? she's hot

I assume you're talking about Quake. She creates shockwaves/vibrations. Essentially earthquake powers.

>it's the same thing just everything is different

>Ward is fucking amazing
I kinda wish that they had let him be taskmaster.

This is the future of AoS threads, just Robbiefags as far as the eye can see

Tough call, I'd say Gotham personally. Though Gotham is bettter if you are fairly familiar with Bat-Lore

>people being passionate about a character they like and wanting to see him done well is bad

Holy shit is this how AoS fans are?

So has there been any word on Bobbi and Hunter coming back now that the spinoff is dead?

>a character having slightly looser clothing means that they aren't done well.

Did you even read the post I was responding to? That user literally has autism

I agree it was a bit much but I don't understand why they couldn't make his look comic accurate. It's one of the easiest costumes to do since it's just a 1 piece racing suit and a cgi metal skull.

No, they probably pushed for it and gambled their roles away.

The cast is already big enough without them.

I'll miss having Limey Ward being not-hawkeye, but I guess Black Simmons is cool too. Daisy and Simmons will have to make up for tight-shirts-mcgee, though.

>Tony mentioned them way back in the first avengers movie?

Did he? When?

Holy shit that actually looks really good.
