I'm halfway through watching it now, and yeah it's pretty bad plot wise. Cheesy as fuck. Not that that makes it unwatchable, I like the characters and it looks great. God I love Pidge, the episode where she snuck around the castle was the best

As for the topic of shipping - honestly I got into it because I kept seeing fanart on tumblr and I was down for some getting into some gay ships with pretty boys in robots, but now that I'm watching it I don't get the appeal of shipping them together at all. They're straight up like brothers/sister, like different parts of the same body. Shiro acts like all of their dad too. Lance also seems like the Kirk-like "gonna fuck 500 exotic alien chicks in the course of his life's adventures" kinda guy - not like that stops shippers, Kirk/Spock was like the first notable slash pairing. And even Allura and Coran seem more like part of the family. I feel like romance with any of them would have to be with a character outside of their tight-knit group, like Hunk and that rock alien girl. Their growing closeness is like 80% of the appeal of the show to me and thinking of there being sexual tension between any of them ruins it, it would throw off the whole dynamic that I love so much

I shouldn't be surprised but I'm just kinda mind-boggled that the whole fandom takes the shipping so seriously that they argue about it so much and think one or the other could actually happen. But I dunno, maybe I'm just not as into m/m ships as I thought I could be. And maybe I haven't seen some interactions that will change my mind yet, I'm gonna watch the other half tonight. Not all of them are fluffy. Fishguy in episode one had zero fluff. And Galra guard who got knocked into a wall looks like he has no fluff too. You can look at them in the poster in and see they seem to have varying degrees of fluff/nonfluff.

I honestly have no idea. It definitely seems like an implication to me, but I'd like it a lot better if Galra was an empire composed of many different species, that maybe try to look more uniform than they really are.

I wish the creators would tell, because I wonder this too. They seem to largely share some traits. They're taller than humans, have clawed hands, pointed ears, yellow eyes, and usually purple skin/fur. Most have no pupils, but Fishguy had pupils. And most are purple, but Haggar is blue and Zarkon looks gray.

At least they're slightly more uniform than the Galra in the original series. Those guys were just a mismash of everything.
