I tried binge watch Gumball but I didn't get too much into it. But all the newer clips look funny as hell and I want to catch up. Is it okay to skip season 1 or will I miss on some gems?

Gumball is one of the shows that gets better Season after Season. But it depends on which episode you are at.

You are better off missing a few gems than going through all of S1 of Gumball.

Skip what you like and come back to it later.
There isn't much continuity, but the seasons do get better the further you go, even though the old episodes still hold up.

Season 1 has a very very different tone from the rest of the series. It's a bit more innocent, whereas modern Gumball is a bit more cynical.

Personally I think the change is for the better.

You don't have to watch it, but I'd recommend at least starting from Season 3. I can't remember when Rob becomes a villain though.

Most people agrees season 1 was the show worst so yeah I do recommend it.

After Season 1 they get incredibly more creative with the "we live in a cartoon world" synopsis and Gumball himself changes from stupid but innocent kid to cynical asshole that does the right thing.

I said "at least". For strictly continuity purposes, I couldn't remember if season 2 had any super important moments in it.

It is funny though.

As much as I love the plot build up and "muh lore" the show is forming, I think the biggest strength with Gumball is that even without it it's still a great show.

So many modern shows whole draw is now is their continuity and lore and mystery, but for Gumball all of that is more like a cherry on top rather then their whole hook.
