This might be a controversial opinion, but I kinda wonder if we shouldn't just stop using Pepe.

I mean, obviously we all recognise the absurdity of Hillary et al. referring to him as the mascot of the alt-right when he's been a major internet meme for years and is often used by people who most certainly aren't white supremacists. But it's also certainly true that we've embraced him, we use him at a far higher rate than the background noise of the rest of the internet.

As it is, with Pepe being so strongly associated with us basket of deplorables, it means the people who we might want to engage in political discourse will just shun us the moment they catch sight of him. We would never get through to them, the association is too strong. We might was well just throw around the swastika all the time (another symbol that is much maligned through association but was innocuous before the Nazis).

It also, despite the common argument of "death of the author", does make me kinda bad the original artist of Pepe doesn't like what his character has become.

Since we more recently embraced KEK and often refer to Pepe and KEK interchangeably, I wonder if it wouldn't be an option to just continue our worship and hopes for doubles and happenings, but use images of literally any other image of a frog to express our praise.
