You do not know your history. Jefferson did not sign a repeal of the Alien and Sedition actions that Adams signed into office. The truth is that the Alien and Sedition Act had what is known as a "sunset provision" written into the legislation. Essentially, it is an "auto-repeal" clause which causes the law to expire after a certain length of time. Once that expiration date is reached, the law effectively repeals itself (via provision, just using this as a figure of speech) and is taken off of the books. Unless the law is reauthorized by Congress, it ceases to be enforceable.

This is how the Alien and Sedition Act went away.... the law simply expired and was not reauthorized. Jefferson had nothing to do with it.
