I dunno I went to Berlin for 10 days and the portions weren't that different. And the food was like beef on noodles. I think the big difference is that people walk/bike a lot more. American cities aren't as walkable and in the south it's just miserably hot outside 4 months of the year. No one wants to show up to work drenched in sweat.
