I was just in Germany for two months with my German fiancé. The wars are treated like a huge embarrassment. It was weird because in Canada the wars are treated with pride and heroism so when I tried to talk to anyone about them they'd skirt around the subject or laugh nervously. They don't even sing their entire national anthem because parts are deemed too nationalistic. That's how embarrassed Germans are of Germany.
