The surgery is also actually advanced pretty far now (and the post-op suicide rates a lot of people talk about are not exactly accurate, btw, thats not accounting for existing suicidal depression and pre-existing factors, people trying to treat surgery as a cure-all or something) and the main drawback to it is that its a really long and brutal recovery time and a major shock to your body. The actual results are pretty good now. But most example photos people see are from the early 2000s when things still looked like hatchet wounds and self-lubrication hadn't been "invented" yet.
