Standard etiquette is to come in while the Othros is being conduct (yes, during), and the Divine Liturgy follows right afterward without any intermission. This is so as to be like you are stepping right into heaven from earth, as opposed to how is now common in the West, which is a service you arrive for ahead of time and prepare for, then conduct.

We're actually not that isolated any more. We did get set back in evangelism for a long time, because we were not backed by any colonial powers, and when we did spread through immigrants, the immigrants were generally isolated in community. But now, many generations later, evangelism is picking up and we're building plenty of missions and churches that use languages like English for their services.
