It's just a simple autobiography from an American Chinese woman who describes her grandmother and mother's upbringings throughout these different cultural changes for China- grandma starts out as some girl that gets plucked out of a random village to become a concubine but by the time you get to the authors life Mao is coming into power and they're all working as communist officers. Then the cultural revolution begins and this is the redpill of the whole thing, it just really goes in to great detail about the way that this movement effected people's lives and for me personally it was the first thing to wake me up to the horrors of communists and the weird ways in which they try to destroy good values and connections.
