But overall, yes, the european unis are pretty good, the thing is there is a strong selection in Master degrees and some others like Med School (for example here you have a contest where only 15% of the first year can continue).

I sincerely believe that free college is great, you shouldn't pressurize your students with financial constraints, especially when they already have to work in parallel to survive their daily lives) but you have to impose a meritocracy and cull the bullshit sectors like "gender studies" while severly limiting branch like "psychology" or "sociology" in order to be profitable.
