FASFA is not a loan, FASFA is your documentation that states whether you can apply for certain loans (subsidized, meaning that interest does not accrue while in college) and things like the Pell Grant (which you do not have to pay back).

FAFSA only gives you a partial amount. You still have to take out a subsidized loan to pay for extra costs. The grants I got only covered tuition but I had to take out a subsidized and unsubsidized loan to cover the room and board.
