I think it's irrelevant what happens anyway. Trump has won already. The polls are showing them neck and neck, but like with Brexit there's a ton of social pressure to not vote for Trump, so he will have loads of closeted voters.

This introduces a margin of error favouring Trump. Could be as high as 10%.

As a non-politician, Trump has the enviable benefit of a completely clean political record. Can Trump actually win the debate? I know he can out-banter her but that probably won't cut it and he'll have to be more detailed than in the primaries. Unless he's been studying policies and stuff that's pretty much all Hillary has to bring up to show that he's out of his depth.

Don't forget that there is actually a decent amount of people involved in preparing these two for the debate. And for what is worth, Trump's guys have been doing a good job at it recently (read: the way he rick-rolled journalists last Friday).

With that said, I suspect that he will actually prepared to this debate while making it look as if he is 'direct' and 'improvising' on the spot - something he is good at.
