The gulf coast part is, but it gradually turns into hilly terrain as it leaves the wetland area. Once you are in the hills, the mosquitoes aren't a problem, usually nonexistent except in the wetter months.

The summers do get really fucking hot, but humidity is moderate. It is also fairly windy and full of trees, so it isn't bad to manage.

I have been living on the gulf coast my whole life, though, so I'm use to hot and humid and mosquitoes everywhere. Might be a bit hot for someone from a cooler climate.

Oregon has high property tax but no sales tax. Washington is the opposite. Homesteading is popular in southern Washington because you can buy lots of land to live on and then for those things you can't grow or make yourself, you can go over to border into Oregon to buy what you need without paying tax on it. Technically they're required to report their purchases to the State of Washington and pay a 'use tax' on it but it's an unenforceable law and no one goes along with it.

Property taxes are based on the value of the property and the buildings on it. In rural areas land values are low and often people build without informing the government, so they don't end up paying the full amount of tax.

It is a nightmare to get in if you are a normal person with no substantial education or degree or anything, at least the official way.

The two most common ways I know of are marriage, and company sponsorship (work visas). There are criteria that allows these two classes of people to apply for citizenship and most likely achieve it. So long as you remain in the US, learn the US culture, and pass the US test.

The process is long and tedious, though. I believe this is only allowed for certain visas, so not student visas. My stepmother is Venezuelan who obtained her citizenship a couple of years back. I believe the entire process took her 8 years or so. She came from Venezuela on a work visa for Shell I believe and eventually married my dad.

Still a grueling process, but naturalized citizens that went through the process usually take great pride in their citizenship, as they had to work hard for it. I believe it is intentionally grueling to build the "American Pride" aspect in foreigners looking to come.
