It seems like you're confusing the *word* with the *physical object* that the word refers to. A word is like a pointer that points to some thing in reality; a symbol. You can have multiple words pointing to the same thing (synonyms) or sometimes you come across something with no word pointing to it, so you make up a new one. So your analogy doesn't make sense because we're not replacing the real thing, only moving the pointer
For a word to be useful, there obviously needs to be an agreement between all members of a group of people as to which word refers to what. The goal of this meme (I guess) is to establish the consensus here first and then let it spread to the normieworld, through the power of Kek and meme magic
