I've taken to reading about the united states prison system recently. How is this allowed?

How do these conditions not qualify as cruel and unusual punishment. If you don't have a mental illness before solitary confinement you better fucking believe you're going to have one after you leave it.

Why don't we change this goddamn shit? It's terrible and doesn't improve anything; recidivism rate is ridiculous

Do you think those dogs are friends?

>caring about criminals

The easiest fix we can do right now is legalizing weed. After that we need to get the death penalty in the fast lane to help take care of our long-term violent offenders.

idk bout dogs man

sometimes they'll see another dog and they'll look like they're psyched about meeting a new dog friend and their tail is wagging and stuff then when they get within three feet of each other they fucking growl like they want to tear the other dogs throat out

Cute doges :3

>How do these conditions not qualify as cruel and unusual punishment
cruel and unusual are relative terms

Prison isn't supposed to be a vacation

googles aren't capable of reform

Yeah well basic human rights should still apply to prisoners. Think of the people who are wrongly convicted and have to be treated like less than a human being for 10 years.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
Life's not fair, grow the fuck up kid.

Easy for you to say. The second you get framed for a crime you'll be bitching like the unprincipled piece of shit you are.

>not realizing wall street makes a killing off the recidivism rate

Not an argument.

"Not an argument", coming from the board that yells "jew shill" at every point of disagreement LMAO

>Cred Forums is one person
Nice strawman.

Not an argument.

Why do you care ? Think about the average person in prison

Nobody said it should be. Most reformists are just asking that mentally ill inmates aren't scalded to death (look it up; it happened) or deprived of treatment for their conditions, and that active causing of suffering and pain isn't encouraged.

>>caring about criminals

10 years for child porn. It only takes one pic. Don't think it couldn't be you . It's postrd here everyday.

what an honor

I spent 8 years in the Florida prison system. I was moved from a medium security prison - where I spent a few weeks in solitary as punishment for contraband and engaging in fighting - after several years I was then moved to minimum and then a work camp.

Solitary is fucked. I've heard from this one crazy old timer that served time all over the place that Delaware had the worst fucking hole of all time.

He told me a story that it was pitch black in there. That a fella that did a turn in there once actually got the attention of some prisoner advocacy group to get that warden to put some form of light in there - it was so poorly written that the language said "there must be at least a 40 watt lightbulb in the cell". So he put a lightbulb in there, in the sconce, but never allowed it to be on.

That's pretty fucked up.

You are literally held to homo rape in prison and this is supposed be OK because you are guy

The entire policing system makes a mockery of what it means to be a citizen.
I hope you anons never have to find out the hard way the police are political, liberal, amd dont know the meaning of equal justice. I know firsthand after i tried to report a crazy woman

Incarceration would be a piece of cake but fucking googles found a way to fuck that up too

'the needs of the many...' isn't that the same arguement welfare advocates use to justify higher taxes?

that argument works until you find yourself one of the few

Constitutional rights in prison is a really interesting topic, and there is a whole body of case law from the Supreme Court on the ways in which a prisoner's constitutional rights are the same and different from those of a normal citizen.

Here's a longer, more scholarly article on the topic: scholarship.law.georgetown.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1020&context=facpub
