Orthodox Church on immigration >Such an important aspect of modern life like mass migration is not left unattended. Unlike the Catholic approach that unduly favors migrants, particularly in Europe, the Orthodox notices the negative nature of the process, as well as the fact that it leads to confrontation of different identities and value systems. In addition, the Orthodox Church propose to look at the roots of this phenomenon. The reason for the migration is the liberal, hedonistic ideology bleeding the peoples of Europe and the interests of the capitalist elite, who need a cheap and disenfranchised workforce:
>Attempts by indigenous people of the rich countries to stop the migration flow are futile, because they come in conflict with the greed of their own elites who are interested in the low-wage workforce

From the article, for the benefit of all Cred Forums readers and apologies in advance to Pope Francis, who I believe means well...
>The unconditional support of state sovereignty against the transnational elite is a distinctive feature of the position of the Orthodox Church. This differs the Orthodox from Catholics, who are members of the globalist transnational centralized structure, in contrast to the Orthodox Churches, which are united in faith, but not administratively.
Must go for now. See you all again

They are in America, why aren't they American Orthodox? What happens when every Russian Christian decides to become Greek orthodox? Is that even possible? Is there actually a difference?

Only means which bishop is overseeing the parish, nothing else.
Carson Perry
Why is the Greek parish in the USA? Why don't they have an American parish? Why not be overseen by the bishop of Rome for that matter? Isn't this the sort of weird complicated bureaucratic nonsense you could avoid by having a pope?
Jaxson Hernandez
Because Greek immigrants came over to the U.S. and set up Greek parishes. Generally a country doesn't get its own Church until hundreds of years after the Orthodox are established there.
Because the Bishop of Rome isn't in the Church, and that would just mean the Roman Church would be in the U.S. anyway

Which language do they use? Greek or English? So if an American wants to be Orthodox he has no choice but to obey a foreigner, because he only gets a church after waiting a few centuries? I find this very confusing.

They generally use both.
Logan Jenkins

I thought orthodox didn't like the idea of a centralised bureaucracy. The guys in Russia didn't want to listen to this guy in Rome, because what does he know what needs to be done or what is going on thousands of miles away. But now this American needs to listen to a Greek. While at the same time everyone beliefs the same things, the liturgy is the same everywhere. What's the point? I don't want to be a pain in the ass but it all seems overly complicated and absurd to me.
Brandon Carter
You could end up with a Russian being Greek Orthodox in the united states.
David James
How is the Greek bishop not American? He's an American citizen. And you don't have to be of Greek blood to be a bishop in the Greek Church
Robert Baker
An “autocephalous” Church is completely self-governing. It elects its own primate and has the right to consecrate its own Holy Chrism, among other prerogatives unique to autocephalous Churches. [The term “autocephalous” literally means “self-heading.”]
An “autonomous” Church is self-governing to a certain degree in its internal matters, but its head is appointed or confirmed by the autocephalous Church which nurtures it. An autonomous Church also receives its Holy Chrism from its “Mother Church.”
Should I move from being Eastern Catholic to be Eastern Orthodox?
Luis Watson
So? They're just jurisdictions, it has zero to do with ethnicity. You are not "Greek Orthodox," technically, you are just "Orthodox," and your parish is Greek or Russian etc. But you are not, properly speaking.
Austin Cooper
Yes. Eastern Catholic is incoherent, I mean think about it, many of you commemorate Mark of Ephesus as a saint, yet follow the Pope. Does that make sense?
Michael Carter
Orthodoxy is against degeneracy! Orthodoxy is so good that Russia has a 4% church attendance rate and catholic Poland has 40%!

So, why do you guys not accept the Papacy? I mean, I can understand not accepting Vatican II, for they are modernist and are straying from the ways of tradition, but why the Papacy as a whole? Also, someone explain that "first-among-equals" stuff. I believe that the Pope holds earthly authority as the Vicar of Christ.
Evan Taylor
At least the pope still has people to whom he can direct his message, meanwhile Moscow, Antioch and others don't even have church attendees
Get over it, catholicism is the true faith and Poland shows. Soon all of Russia will be Uniate like Ukraine and Belarus, Orthodoxy only needs to show its corruption, backwardness and powerlessness
Hunter Cooper
>Russia has about a 10% attendance so they're on par with France, Germany, but still lower than catholic Spain, Italy or Ireland
>This means that there is a disagreement about whether the bodies in question are self-governing or not. So, for example, some consider the Orthodox Church in America to be self-governing, while others consider it to be a part of the Church of Russia.
I just got even more confused.
Camden Martinez
Greek Orthodox Bishops in the U.S. are mostly Greek because 99% of men eligible to become bishops, based on age alone, are immigrants. It will change over the next few generations as more people born here become eligible elders.
Carson Clark
No. The Catholic Church is the continuation of Christ's Church.

1.) in our asses, yes 2.) we pray to god's energy, his asshole and mary, yes 3.) nigger talk aka ebonics 4.) we suck off the priests in this religion son, get with it
Mason Butler
1. We don't object to them, but we don't really use them. The closest we have is the prayer rope, which has knots. But that is only for one prayer, which goes, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner." It's used to help train for perpetual prayer, since this prayer, repeated perpetually in your heart, is considered a great spiritual boon.
2. Yes, we pray to saints, although "prayer" here just means "ask", and it means ask the saints to pray for us or accomplish miracles (but this miracles come ultimately through God, just like one might say "Moses parted the Red Sea," but in fact, it was the Spirit who did it, the Spirit chose to do it through Moses). The idea that holy men and women should be asked for intercession is in the OT (1 Kings 13:6). The reason we can ask them even though they're dead, is because we believe Christ liberated Sheol, and so they are now in heaven and fully communicant with us. If they were in Sheol, of course, this would be grossly inappropriate.
3. There is not predominant language, we never stopped translating the Bible and urging people to read it. The language is whatever most people in the parish are most likely to understand.
4. We Confess our sins *before* the priest. We actually Confess them to God, the priest stands *next* to you while you Confess on your knees, you don't face the priest himself. But the priest asks Christ you be forgiven. This is based on the Apostolic office being given this charge (John 20:23, Matthew 18:18)

What truthful rebuke did you just righteously utter of me, you worthiest of souls? I’ll have you know I failed God to the deepest of the pit in my class of worldly sinners, and I’ve been involved in numerous shameful transgressions on God's forgiveness, and I have over 300 confirmed faults. I am depraved in wicked thoughts and I’m the top coveter in the entire legions of the damned. I am nothing to thee but just another Satan. I will praise you to heaven and back with the most contrite of hearts the likes of which has been seen all too often from the sinner, mark my unworthy lips. You think you can serve away with your words of wisdom to me over the Internet? God bless, brother. As we speak I am contacting my holy communion of saints across heaven and your love is being traced right now so you better prepare for the Theosis, militant. The mercy that sustains the shining little thing you call your soul. You’re God's gift, kid. I can be all things at all times to all men, and I can bow to you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just while kissing your hand. Not only am I extensively corrupted by unnameable vileness, but I have betrayed to the entire covenant of the Orthodox Body of Christ, and I will plead her to her full benevolence to sanctify your virtuous spirit off the face of the lie, you little star. If only you could have known what holy gratitude your little “meek” rebuke was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have blessed your benign tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re reaping the harvest, you God fearing joy. I will weep thanks all over you and you will drown in it. You've found life, kiddo.

This is absurd. The Donation of Constantine was certainly used to claim supremacy prior to 1054, and was the primary argument Rome used to support its supremacy at the time of the schism. What does that show? Even Rome, at the time of the schism, was unaware/did not believe that its supremacy was of divine origin.

It doesn't matter m8. As a Greek Orthodox you can go to a Russian Orthodox or a Serbian Orthodox church. If it's in America it's maybe even better because everyone would speak English. If you did it in the actual country you might be confused because some customs are slightly different and priests wouldn't understand what you're saying since they usually learn the native language and church slavonic(for slavic orthodox churches).
The Patriarchs of different countries basically serve as the patriarchs of old.
There are some churches that are not in communion with the Orthodox church, like Macedonian and Montenegrin which have declared autocephaly from the Serbian orthodox church and are considered schismatics in the orthodox world.
Generally, normal people won't care about church politics. If you're orthodox, you can go to any orthodox church.
