Well, first off, many polls come out in a single day. And many polls update periodically. Some once a week, some twice a week, some every other day, some just when they have their data ready to be published.

General election polling doesn't have MUCH weight but it's obvious someone with like a 10 point lead is beating their opponent soundly. State polling is a little better. Grabbing the opinions of 1000 people periodically? Ehh, it's been proven to be fairly representative of trends and the actual voting demographic of states. For in-state elections, they're more accurate.

Trump has many failed ventures. It is impossible to say if he is a skilled businessman or just lucky because he had his fathers financial support his entire life. If he were to fail as president he could easily move to a friendly foreign country with his wealth intact.

My dad remembers the days when if someone had a university degree, it meant they were smart. Hell, just being a graduate would be enough for respectable journalists to consider you an expert in the field if a story broke in it.
