The French arms industry is dead and the FAMAS killed it.

When the rifle was adapted to be the France's NATO caliber weapon, bullpups were and interesting idea at the time so they ran with it.

Initially the French were French and had proprietary 25 round magazines because they had to be unique. This proved to be a problem while training with other NATO countries.

The firing mechanism is also limited, it does not have much tolerance for changes in barrel and chamber pressure, which with 5.56 can be a bit of an issue. The rife was designed to shoot 55gr rounds but with the increasing popularity of heavier bullets the barrel twist is no good.

So instead of retooling the factories and fixing the rifles they figured its more economical to just buy new ones.

The big advancment wont be that anyway. It will be power armour suits. The us already have powered leg braces that allow someone to carry a fuck ton of equipment. Normally that statement is true but the French do desperately need to update their rifles. All of the FAMAS rifles they have are at least 30 years old and they no longer have the domestic industry to refit them or build new ones.

The FAMAS also has real issues with NATO comparability that are fixed by adopting the 416.

As far as caseless ammo, it's most likely not going to be adopted when the program is complete. They will take what they learned, shelve it, and then apply that to a new research program later that combines it with more technology like they did with the OICW/XM25.
