Have you ever asked a friend to buy one outside the country if you where looking to do some travel for a few weeks?

Every time I've been to Japan I've never had them inspect the pass once, holding it up and being white will gets you waved through every single time.

Kyoto and Nara are usual recommendations, I'd maybe go north to see some of Tohoku, and if you have a few days, may go to Ishikawa and Niigata as well.

Unless you are teaching at a private school or public school for over 350-400,000 yen a month, it's pretty shitty. Especially Eikaiwa schools like Nova, ECC, Aeon. Good start to get a visa though and work a year or two to look for a job though. You just need a 4 year degree and a teaching certification (I think ECC and Aeon require one, not NOVA) but you are pretty much a slave. It's good for a newbie because they tend to set you up with an apartment, phone, bank account etc. but the pay is fucking shit. And the hours, you're gonna work weekends and start early on them so have fun trying to do anything with your normal Japanese friends that work M-F 9-5

I thought I heard that they were asking for teacher's with some kind of certificate now for some of the Eikaiwa schools? I only worked in them for 3 years before I got out of that dead end field, but kept in touch with a few staff and teachers. And you're right, if you are one of the countries that qualifies for it you can get the working holiday, but it's not good if you plan to stay long term because then you have to go back and re-apply for a regular visa.

Never heard of a place that wanted you to have a teaching degree of any kind, it just helps.
