Thing is our oil is extra heavy, it's not really that valuable, is a pain in the ass to extract and manage, it clogs tubes, damages equipment. It need to be diluted with imported oil so we can sell our own oil, it could also be diluted with gas which we have a FUCK ton of but isn't being extracted, also the oil we are extracting releases a fuck ton of gas but they let it all to waste because there's no equipment to collect it or machinery to refine it with said gas, there was, they let it break down.

The whole PDVSA (Public oil company, only one allowed to extract) apparatus broke down because all the money coming in was taken for programs or just straight up stolen. Also all positions were given to party members who knew fuck all about oil extraction and were just in it for the "REVOLUCION" (easy as fuck money for doing nothing at all), also they had this dumb ass motivation program for well manager that meant that the more oil you extract you got a larger commision, which made every extraction point to overclock every machine making their life expectancy much lower while also not paying or doing any sort of maintenance to it.

We are producing about a third of the oil we WERE producing back when it was at 90~100$ a barrel.

Anybody producing anything has to give his production to the goverment to distribute in anyway they like to and at whatever the price they decide should be at the moment. Market price for meat is about 3$, they say it should be sold to the public at 1.7$, and so and so with everything else.
There's no production because it's not profitable and EVEN if you make it so that you turn on a profit if you get to big or some Bureaucrat/General/Politic decides you are making capitalistic practices you either suddenly have a union appear to fuck your shit up or straight up expropiation by the Gov, which then Bankrupt the company because it's just what they do.

"Unpatriotic", If you produce too much they say you are hoarding, if you produce too little then you are not using the land in a way that is productive so they decide to give it to the ((((Working Class)))) whoever the fuck that is and you get shit for it. maybe a couple chickens in your backyard but that's it, also it's not like they have some metric proportion of land to be used or like for each squared mile you have to produce so and so, it's what's convenient.
My family had a 22 acre farm, shit ton of cows, shit ton of buffalos, shit ton of corn and yuca, we even had a pond with otters, Goverment took it we were payed last year, today the equivalent of what we were paid is about 645$, they even took the machinery and trucks in the state.

Use your god given intelligence, take it somewhere where it's more valued than what some bureaucrat decides. That's about the best advice I can really give, I know a guy from Venezuela that made it here. I also used to talk to this girl who ended up in Guatemala when everything went to shit. Well I already have enough saved up for an air ticket and am currently in the process of getting my passport, will probably have to wet a couple of hands to get my visa, i'll just sell my ps3, pc, tv and AC for live by money and then just go from there. your story sounds similar to what happened to my Grandmother's family in Hungary when they went socialist. They moved 3 or 4 families into their house. I live in Texas and the demand for hard working intelligent people as high and they get paid decently.
