Marine 03' to 08' here, I would say that if you have some self respect then the Marines might be the way to go. But if you don't give a shit then you'll be in for a hard time for no reason, join the AF instead. And avoid the grunt side if you can, pick something that might translate into a real world skill later.

The main question you gotta ask yourself is 'what am I going to do if I don't join up'. My end goal is a job in law enforcement, and I don't think I'd be able to get that with no work experience and only an Associate's Degree. I also don't want to find a normal shitty job and work that for barely any money until I get an in somewhere.

Another question is would you rather regret doing something or regret not doing something? I sure as hell would rather regret going into the Marines, wasting time, and getting out (under the assumption I don't die of course), the be in my mid 30s and regret not doing it when I had the chance.
