I grew up in Singapore, but I'm Norwegian, so I wasn't used to it either.

Land that is designated as farm land cannot but built on, so most farm land will probably be slightly cheaper. As for shepherds in the mountains, I don't believe they own much land. They let their cattle and sheep graze on the mountain, which is public land.
