Nate Silver is my go to for stats. He's the most reliable in my opinion and is fairly neutral (although his bias does show at times). He learned not to be as biased though ever since Trump won the nomination.
Unfortunately the only way to improve methodology would not be through mainstream pollsters but doing hard academic work in statistics/math/economics/physics. If people find a better system that fairs better in monte carlo simulations, they it will trickle into the mainstream.
